Common Questions and Answers about Allergies lungs

allergies

Avatar m tn Hello and hope you are doing well. The causes for long term cough besides asthma are GERD and post nasal drip from allergies. GERD is gastro esophageal reflux disease where the stomach acids come back into the esophagus. This acid can provoke nerves, which can cause cough. In addition reflux into the lower esophagus can stimulate esophageal nerves that connect to and can stimulate nerves going to the lungs.
Avatar m tn The main one i would like to know about though is i recently i had a chest xray that said my lungs were Hyper-radiant and Hyperinflatted probably due to COAD, however i have never been a smoker or been around many people that do smoke. I have been having a lot of breathing problems lately with taking a breath and sometimes my chest is really really tight and the symptoms seem to be getting worse. Is there any chance this could just be ashma?
Avatar n tn Certain occupations are linked to allergies due to dust, pollen, fungus, molds (as in Air conditioners), zinc, asbestos, lead, tin etc. An allergy panel should be done for this. It appears that warm and humid atmosphere suits you. Warm and dry or cold and dry climate harms you. Maybe you should try steam inhalation twice a day until your system gets acclimatized to the new weather. Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage.
Avatar f tn So basically I noticed I have congestion from allergies and I also have asthma. This causes me to have breathing problems and I notice my heart acts weird when that happens. I'm honestly really scared.. I'm only 24 years old. I've had a EKG or whatever that heart thing is and it came out normal. I've also had a ton of health professionals in the recent months tell me "it's just anxiety." I don't know if I should push for heart related help(heart disease??
1644331 tn?1372333656 I have food allergies, outdoor allergies, asthma and for the last 10 years have suffered from chronic sinusitis. These sinus infections occur two to three times a year. The worst part of all of this is the constant mucus which seems never ending. It has greatly affected my ability to sing which is my passion. When it goes into an infection I get the same symptoms that one would if you had the flu. Hot cold severe headache nausea it can be painful just to hold my head upright.
Avatar f tn i guess really it depends on the severity of it, to me it feels like someone squeezing my lungs and sitting on my chest making it harder and harder to breath until I take my inhaler then there is a lot of coughing like raspy kinda with a good amount of wheezing it's HORRIBLE
Avatar m tn Smoking paralyzes the cilia, which are the tiny hairs in the sinuses and lungs which remove pollution and detritus. When you stop smoking, they work again, so it's possible you are coughing up what's been stuck in the lungs for a while, and it could be one of the causes of your respiratory distress. Sounds like you also have a sinus infection, but as Londres70 notes, only a doctor can make a diagnosis.
Avatar n tn A check up sounds like a good idea. Breathlessness and sore lungs sounds like your bronchial tubes and/or lungs are sore and irritated. If it's allergies, there are some good meds over the counter now (assuming you're in a country that carries them). It could be bronchitis, in which case antibiotics might help.
Avatar f tn I went to a clinic insisting they check my lymph nodes in my neck and lungs. The physician assistant pointed out that my lungs were hyperinflated and that the diaphragm was somewhat flattened, as consistent with emphysema, now I am a wreck. I had an xray 5 yrs ago and was fine. I am never short of breath, go up 3 flights of stairs several times a day, in fact often I run up the stairs and carry laundry up too. I also walk up a rather significant hill twice a day.
746512 tn?1388807580 This is the three year in a row that my allergies/asthma (or non-asthma who knows) is getting worse from middle of november into december. This can't be due to the cats since I am down one cat now and I have NO ALLERGIES in the spring with increased shedding. It is worse when I go outside and if I'm in and out at work or if it's busy and the door is constantly opened and closed I also have worsening symptoms.
Avatar n tn My FEV1 numbers are often well over 120%, and the next person may have a FEV1 of 85% and still be considered normal. It depends on the size of your lungs. I have a huge set of lungs for a person my size, but my asthma gives me a great deal of trouble with outdoor running during the winter time (thanks to cold air). Considering you can run with no problems is certainly indicative of healthy lungs.
Avatar n tn t breathe.i mean i literally cannot get air in my lungs until i gasp up to 20 seconds which feels like forever.i went to another doctor and he said the chords in my throat swell but he didn't explain the mucus.i want to know what this condition is and what causes it .the doctors act like its nothing and i am terrified i won't breathe the next attack i have.sometimes i throw up during these attacks and am afraid of choking on the vomit or mucus can you help me .
Avatar n tn Re: your being born with underdeveloped lungs I'm sure by now your lungs are in full capacity, as they would not release an infant from the incubator unless the lungs worked properly so I would not concern myself with that, Unless you have some specific lung issues or illness.
Avatar f tn These allergens become airborne as microscopic particles, which when inhaled into the nose or lungs can produce allergic symptoms. You can confirm whether you are allergic to cats by getting allergy testing done.Skin tests and blood tests like RAST are done for this purpose.Pls consult an allergist and get them done.If it comes out positive, then prevention of allergens is the best treatment. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar f tn The Dr. also said my lungs sound clean although I am constantly worrying about cancer because of the phlem production. Mostly lately the phlem is clear of colour with a bit of yellowish green. mostly clear. When I think about it, it feels as if I cant catch my breath or have to yawn although when I am not thinking about it, my breathing feels normal. I am scared that I am making myself anxious because I keep reading about phlem disorders up to where I think it is affecting my life.
4312129 tn?1352635984 I was hospitalized with pneumonia in July. My lungs collapsed so I was hooked up to a life support machine with a tube inserted into my mouth going down to what i imagine must have been my lungs. The drs.induced a coma and I was sedated for about 2 1/2 weeks, with my ar ms bound to the bed so i wouldn't pull the breathing tube out. I was hospitalized a total of 25 days. When they took all the medical tape off my face i was left with what im assuming is acne.
Avatar f tn Has your doctor listened to your lungs? COPD is pretty easy to hear, especially if it isn't being treated. I'm thinking it is more likely allergies and problems related to your GERD. It is quite common to have throat irritation and coughing in the morning because of reflux (in fact, it is a known symptom of reflux). Do you have difficulty breathing? Shortness of breath? Phlegm or coughing other than upon waking or while eating?
170935 tn?1225371076 Maybe a nerve being irritated due extra pressure during coughing or sneezing? I really don't know, never experienced it. You should see your doctor if this is creating problems for you.
Avatar n tn To keep it short, I've been having breathing difficulties. About a month or two ago I was sick, I had a fever and was coughing up very yellow mucus. Sometimes with much nastier substances captured inside. Now I just can't breath without coughing or wheezing and I can hear my lungs rattling when I do. No mucus at all. I've had allergies my whole life. But it's only been affecting this past year or so.
1522114 tn?1291310183 at day time also, many times i feel i need a deeper breath as if sth very light is blocked my lungs. at first i thought it is due to stress of studies, so i didnt go to doctor. it diminished nearly completely for a time. recently it again came back and worries me? is it a major issue. i am very slightly overweight, well, stomach bulging. is it to do with my weight?
Avatar m tn What's more concerning is how you said you had "bunches of tests done and" still nothing... Coughing up blood isn't good. It means your lungs are defending your body from some sort of bacteria. If you, yourself aren't ingesting or smoking Marijuana, then the question of allergy isn't the prominent one. Clean air is the first thing on your list.Try opening up a window; if its cold bundle yourself up.
Avatar m tn Last year started wheezing like symptoms, have allergies. PCP said maybe adult onset asthma. Visited Allergist who did allergy test(skin *****) and chest xray(normal). Allergic to cats, and mites, and ragweed. No food allergies. Family history: mother has asthma. 26 yrs in USA with no issues, other than seasonal runny nose, etc Pulmonary study baseline showed FVC, FEV1, FEF25-75% of 87%, 92%, and 110%.
Avatar m tn scarring according to the doctors. Despite being able to cycle and run ok, I am still not feeling right and still have catargh on my lungs which is fighting to stay put. The worst is just not feeling that my head is connected, almost like I continually have had a glass of wine! Anyone else felt like this after pneumonia? I am an asthmatic although controlled perfectly by ventolin etc.
Avatar f tn Says his throat hurts, dr decided he had some sort of reflux then and allergies. Now he has always had allergies but I never knew allergies to cause all the rest of this stuff. So came home with more meds. A few days later we were back at the drs office, she sent us to the hospital for blood work this time to check for mono and pneumonia.
Avatar n tn Allergies maybe. Take some Zyrtec or Benydryll, or Nyquil before you go to bed. If it is allergies, it will get better within two days.
Avatar n tn Every year at the turn of the seasons I get a cold (any cold they seem to be different symptoms each time) that leads to my lungs feeling enflamed, ticklish feeling where I am coughing up clear to yellowish mucus at a pretty frequent rate. This season it started 1 week ago with a soar throat. I took off the following day then had to work from 9-9pm the next day.
Avatar n tn I finally got a chest x-ray and the results were slight hyperinflation of the lungs. What can I do for this constant drainage, I take zyrtec daily and it is not really helping me with my allergies anymore.I am 48 and smoked when I was younger but quit 18 years ago.
1049259 tn?1295088478 no x rays nothing they said I had some fluid in the ears and it is allergies (told me to take zyrtec) so I did and it didnt really help. ended up going to my allergy dr. they did allergy ***** tests and said allergies after seeing some fluid build up in ears aswell and gave me patonase which helped dry up the sinus' but the cough remained. went to my regular dr who looked at me and told me allergies and gave me a canalog (cortizon) steroid shot. kinda helped with my stuffy nose KINDA..
