Aldara for herpes

Common Questions and Answers about Aldara for herpes

aldara

Avatar f tn aldara is very irritating to the skin sometimes. Your doctor thinking it could be herpes is a very common thing. Better to err on the side of caution though. You've both been tested for herpes before so the chances of this being genital herpes is very low. Not sure if either of you tested + for hsv1 or not on your testing you had done. We will gladly look at both ofyour herpes blood tests from back when you were tested if youw ant a 2nd opinion on them too.
Avatar n tn Could this be a primary herpes outbreak or is it normal for the skin to react this way after ending aldara treatment? I experience minimal itching which i always have and no pain but to touch the affected ares is a little tender.
Avatar n tn I have had genital warts for 5 years now and ive been using aldara for quite some time. aldara seems to work pretty well for the most part. while using aldara frequeantly i would experience some side effects like some pain or swelling after using it for a long period of time. i would stop the use and the redness/ swelling would go away and i would contine use and everything would be okay.
Avatar f tn Please tell me if you think I have herpes or if it’s related to the Aldara. I’ve read that one can get herpes-like symptoms from Aldara. Is it normal to experience this a week after I’ve stopped using it? Is it normal for it to last this long? Is it possible? I’m very petrified, too petrified to go back to my gyno. Please help.
Avatar m tn aldara is for warts and mollscum, It is not effective for genital herpes. It's not something you would put on a mole either. Sounds like perhaps your doctor was either guessing or just trying to be nice and avoid telling you what is really going on. Yes the aldara can be incredibly irritating. You need a 2nd opinion on all this. It's not herpes though.
Avatar f tn I have definitely seen aldara cause very significant ulcers in the genital area, for sure! Eight percent of people who use aldara have irritation from the medicine, it is part of the way the medicine functions, to cause enough irritation to bring immune cells to the surface of the skin to become of aware of the virus being there.
Avatar f tn Hey! I know this is an old post, but I'm curious what happened? Something very similar is going on with me but I test negative for HSV2 and discontinued aldara 2 weeks ago... could use some guidance...could the drug still be effecting me?
Avatar n tn I went to the doctor and he said that it could be herpes. They have taken a sample of the sore for culture and blood and have said it would take a week. The sore is not on the wart itself but close to it where the cream did get applied. I would use the entire packet and spread the cream to surrounding areas and sometimes would take a late shower on the weekend and so it would stay longer. The doctor said that if it was Aldara side effects then it would have happened on the wart itself too.
Avatar m tn I showed them to my doc and he told that it is herpes so get tested for it. I got IGG and IGM ELISA for HSV 1 & 2 done (26 weeks after last exposure) which came back as 0.09 and 0.29 respectively which i presume to be a non reactive result as anythink less than 0.8 is negative. The doctor told that the test is unreliable and it can still be herpes as the ulcers are not healing well and the affected area is black and yellow.
Avatar f tn they are small bumps that have a little bit of goop in them but i dont have any of the other symptoms of herpes. I was wondering if it was possible for my hpv to look like herpes..?

Avatar f tn She did a swab of an ulcer and it came back negative for herpes. 4 weeks later I took another blood test and it also came back negative for herpes. The ulcers I had I suspected might have been from the Aldara cream - some sort of immune reaction. They cleared up in 2 days (I did use Chorophor on them). Since then I had another round of bloodwork for all of the above mentioned stds and all came back negative. I saw a dermatologist who did a biopsy and confirmed the molluscum.
Avatar m tn I had sex with my so about a month ago for the first time, we used a condom, but it slipped off for a few thrusts before I realized it came off. I have since gotten tested for several stds, and I ended up getting hpv. The doctor gave me aldara, and I've been using it since Wednesday. I know aldara can cause a burning sensation, but the warts are very small and on the upper part of my shaft, and the sensation is on other parts of my crotch as well, including my urithra.
Avatar n tn His initial thought was the sores were related to a reaction to aldara. But did a culture on the sore and ordered a blood test for herpes. I felt relieved yesterday when the culture came back negative. Then today ..The worst news possible. My herpes 2 test came back positive. 2.53 was the score and it was done by quest labs. At this point that is all I know. The sores mostly healed at this poi t a week later. Honestly I now feel like a virus center and I am really depressed about my future.
Avatar f tn My gyn put me on aldara for my gential warts, i started and within a week i discovered i had an open sore at the opening of my vagina, maybe i wasn'tas careful as i should of using it, but 2 days later this thing is painful as hell, i call my gyn and he tells me to come in, i told him i suspect is a side effect from aldara, he has a look at it and tells he he think it looks just like a herpes open sore, he sent me for a blood test for that.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the help. I agree with you on the aldara cream. It only has seemed to make it look worse the next day. Kinda started seeing other little spots now. Would the aldara cream bring out those new spots maybe? I am discontinueing the cream to see what happens. I also think I came into contact to some poison ivy or a similar type of plant that same day because I had a rash on my leg and I did scratch it and I am thinking I may have passed it to my area of concern.
Avatar m tn what is the normal time it takes for the skin redness and burning to heal after using aldara? i used it for about a month and a half and my penis has never been the same even after 3 weeks off the awful drug. if anyone could offer anything thatd be great. im trying to go see a derm doc. i cant live with this burning pain for the rest of my life. dont know where to go... thanks.
Avatar f tn I'll try to help, but the main thing is to return to your doctor, tell her all you say here then let her work it out. If you're not happy with her understanding or apparent knowledge, find another one. Your local health department STD clinic or a family planning clinic like Planned Parenthood would be good options for expert advice. In any case, you will never get definite answers online, either by looking at information about various infections or asking questions of distant experts.
Avatar m tn I can not be 100% certain, I was under the impression that is was called genital herpes for a specific reason. There is a herpes community on this site which you should visit and you can probably find the answer there. You can always go and get tested too.
601156 tn?1229285825 At the same time I was using aldara cream, so the doctor passed it off as an aldara cream reaction- but my herpes blood test DID come back negative. However I have quit using the aldara cream, and the itching has come back on its own. Although there are no visible sores, for a while there was quite a bit of itching and irritation, and at times the itching would be quite intense.
Avatar f tn I am not applying aldara on that area, only on the right side of vaginal opening inside, coz I have wart inside and she told me to put aldara on it, Its impossible for aldara to scatter there on urethra.
Avatar m tn It was definitely a bad reaction. I stopped treatment of aldara for a while and everything has gone away. Recently I began treatment of aldara again, less frequently, and much more conservatively. Again, I have had some sores, which I again freaked out about, but realized herpes could pretty much be ruled out as I have not had sexual contact and it appeared with the use of aldara again. I was told to apply aquaphor and it helps immensely.
Avatar f tn aldara creme and boosting your immune system
Avatar f tn hello this is tedabell i appreciate your input in reference to my situation. However I am on daily suppressive medication for my HSV2(genital herpes). I have found the medication to be working fine but I read somewhere in an article that the longer you stay on suppressive medications your outbreaks tend to decrease mind has since I started the daily suppressive medication acyclovir. But I read an article about an individual with genital herpes haven't experienced any outbreaks for years.
Avatar f tn with the first two pimple looking things I found, he lanced one, cultured it and sent it out for testing for herpes, came back negative. He also took blood tests, all negative. Today when we looked at me for my follow, he said he needed to do another test for herpes because now it no longer looks like molloscum, it looks like herpes! This is all so stressful, I should have just stayed married and never got any sex...
Avatar f tn She did a culture swab for herpes but said she didnt see anything visible but she would do it anyway even though it may be inaccurate. I then attributed it to either an infection or something related to the warts infection. So my questions are 1) should I try Aldara or just wait to see if any warts show up and 2) what about HSV testing? Is my doctor accurate that it's not necessary given I have no symptoms or should I just get an HSV test because it can be completely asymptomatic?
