Phill, the nebulizer just delivers the albuterol in a better form, doesn't it? It's still albuterol? If your doc knows you're on that, it sounds like it would probably be safe to take. Do you have an after hours nurse you could call to confirm that? If you can't get your breathing under control and you feel like you can't catch your breath it's an emergency situation - you can always go to the ER and they will treat you right away. If by inhaler you mean the dose measured albuterol, I would say use albuterol in a nebulizer instead. The reason I prefer the nebulizer is that you can use as little as you need since it is not measured. I have a small portable nebulizer (slightly bigger than a cell phone) which I take everywhere with me. As far as effictiveness is concerned, albuterol is albuterol no matter how you take it. I got off the inhaled steroids because they were killing me (literally).

even walking from one room to another is a huge toll on me...I read that albuterol is a class C drug and has not been studied in pregnancy in humans...in animals is is linked to cleft palate defects and other defects too! Have you tried instead using a metered dose inhaler that you attach to a aerochamber? It also has a bit of mask, but they only need to breath in and out (normal breathing) for about 10 seconds, while you hold the chamber. And then they are done. It is not strapped around the head. I never used a nebulizer for my daughter as a toddler, as I don't believe it's standard practice in Canada to do so. They will still get their medication in with less side effects.

Do you take these on a daily basis. Medrol is hardcore. What does your doctor say about medrol during pregnancy. I assume you mean albuterol in the nebulizer. I've taken that during pregnancy...but that's when my asthma's been out of control. Sound like the meds you are taking are "short-term". I was taking albuterol in a nebulizer machine a minimum of 4-5 times a day..he switched me over to a new nebulizer med called Xopenex, that he says will have less effect on the baby and I actually think it works better. But he told me to keep my rescue inhaler just in case, and use it if I needed it too.

My question is, is there any general method to synthesis an inhalation solution, mine would be strictly vitamin and herbal based and targeted to help treat asthmatic sypmtoms, the solution would be used in a nebulizer, and would it be safe to use a vit/herb liquid solution to breath in?

He was taking Flow Vent 2 x a day and Albuterol inhaler 4x a day during a flare up. The kicker in all this is it all started in July of 2007 after a bout of Croup. He recovered from that but after that every time he got a cold he would cough till he vomited. And in November he was never able to recover from it. He literally coughed from November till March. Everytime the coughs would get bad is when he would vomit. He actually figured out a way to cough without it hurting him so much.

If no improvement after inhaler, then usually there is no asthma component, the higher the improvement, the higher the asthma component. Some people are allergic to the ingredients in albuterol, this may be a possibility, therefore causing more labored breathing. Did you have a CT scan? With COPD, staying away from anyone with a cold is imperative and cleansing hands constantly and wiping down grocery carts, etc. Keep pushing until you get answers.

I spent the next 3 months going through Albuterol inhalers and albuterol in my nebulizer. And also then Budesonide in my nebulizer. Nothing helped. I was having near-death experiences trying to get to the nebulizer to open up my air passages. I finally called my pharmacy to find out why I did not get my advair and it turned out that I could still get it and my price was the same as always with my medicare. After just one day I was immediately on the mend.

Albuterol doesn't bother me as much as advair after reading bunches of articles :(

I find it embarrassing in public, because I feel like people can tell how shaky I am. From what I understand this is a pretty common side effect, and happens to a few other asthmatics that I know.

I have a question about normal saline for inhalation (as in a nebulizer). I was surprised today to find out that I needed a prescription for this! Why is that? Has it always been the case?

My son has asthma which manifests itself in a cough and often shows up during/after colds (he doesn't appear to have any problems with breathing in enough air... no emergencies, thank goodness). He takes Singulair every night, Albuterol as needed and Benadryl as needed (all as suggested by his doctor). He recently had a cold and his asthma flared up. We gave him albuterol via his nebulizer 3 times daily for around 6 days (his ped said 4-7 days).

but my asthma attacks are getting worse and more frequent as i get bigger, especially with the allergy season...do you think its okay to take albuterol? i heard it was a c class drug so they dont know everything about it...any suggestions, experience, or advice is appreciated.

It is an Omron MicroAir Nebulizer and costs $200, or a little less. It is very small and fits in the cell phone slot in my purse (although it is slightly larger). Also it is completely silent. It operates on batteries. I use lithiums because they last for weeks.

Mucus provides a barrier that is not easily penetrated by medications. It is a sort of insulator. The albuterol sulfafe will penetrate, but it is better not to have this barrier to the medications. The same applies to use of Foradil. Using the expectorant before treatment optimizes the treatment.

About a week ago I had the worst attack and went to the hospital they gave me prednisone and a albuterol treatment after being discharged the dr prescribed me with an inhaler and a cycle of prednisone.
