Common Questions and Answers about Abscess in wound

abscess

Avatar m tn For the last 4 months or so Ive had a thickening of the skin over my right axillae. I has a huge abscess in the area which resolved spontaneously after antibiotics. I noticed the irregularity in my skin soon afterwards. The lump hasnt increased in size but it wont go away either. Any thoughts??....thanks.
Avatar f tn Sorry for another question. Is the perianal abscess or the opening of an anal fistula considered as an open sore/wound? Many thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn Hi there. Gosh, this sounds terrible. I'm sorry you are going through all of this. You've been through it before (do you have a condition causing these cysts called hydroadenitis?) so know what to expect. This is different. Honestly, I'd check in. This is your health and if you feel like something isn't right, follow up on that.
Avatar m tn First some back story: Cat had an abscess, took it to the vet. The abscess drained, went back to the vet, gave us some antibiotics. After abscess drained, the cat irritated it a bit, a flap of skin came off revealing tissue, and bone on the right of the jaw/mouth. We went back to the vet, said she couldn't bandage it since it's literally on the mouth, and therefore couldn't eat. Also can't stitch since there's no skin to stitch together.
10441189 tn?1410152122 Make an urgent appointment to see your doctor immediately. The only way to find out which bacteria is causing this "abscess" is to have a culture test. You have an abscess and require an urgent course of antibiotics. It is good that the puss is draining away, but you still may need help with the drainage and for the "plug" to be removed.
Avatar f tn It appears to be an abscess and quite a bad one. What you can do in the meantime is use 3% hydrogen peroxide on it to clean it out. With it being that large though just the hydrogen peroxide won't do much other than simply cleaning it so it (hopefully) doesn't get any worse in the time being. They need to take it to a vet so it can get antibiotics and proper treatment.
1080889 tn?1260948265 One thing to watch out for is that your wound must be able to breath (gauze is good because it lets air in and keeps dust out!). If you pack it too tightly, you could pick up a secondary anaerobic infection which is very, very bad. The good news is, if you pack it according to your doctor's directions, this complication is easy to prevent.
Avatar f tn I have a recurring abscess on my right breast for almost 2 years now. I remember that I have a "white head/black head" on my chest so I picked it and removed it and I think it's where it all started. The abscess I got on the first spot on my breast lasted for 9 months (I had maybe 4 recurrence) but it healed on its own without taking any antibiotics or creams.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with recurrent subareolar breast abscess in 1988, I have had 10 surgeries duct and tissue have been removed and tribes but into drain..this foe seven years I had no issues and then if was back again in the other breast. Had one surgery then and no more issues for that breast. However my last my other breast no so lucky. It has been three years and no relief....just got back from Dr. And he did say we could try surgery but from past experiences it caused more issues for me.
Avatar m tn My 1 year old grandson had developed a Perianal Abscess and had a surgery under GA. Some 20 ml. pus was removed from a 5 cm deep cavity near anus at 01 O'Clock position and 1 cm away. The surgeon put a drain pipe which did not stay more than 1 day and then it was not replaced. He was given antibiotics for 2-3 days and kept under observation and sent home after 5 days.He was advised Betadine sitz bath after each poo. No other medication was prescribed.
Avatar f tn I went to ER for complaints of cyst on my back. Was afraid of an abscess. Had become irritated from everyone squeezing and prodding it. ER doctor said she thought pain was just from everyone disturbing it, however she did ultrasound and said she thought there may be a little fluid there. She numbed area and did a small incision. Nothing came out, so she said there was no fluid, however, I need to watch area because of the scalpel slice. She placed me on bactrim for three days.
1657910 tn?1302372061 My doctor ordered cultures of the fluid to see what grows. Nothing every grows in my case. Yes it is a new abscess that delevoped in the same spot as the abscess that was surgically removed in Dec 2010. My surgeon did tell me it could happen again. So I wasn't to shock that it developed again just bummed out that it happen again. I was very happy when the surgeon did say I wouldn't have to have surgery again. I don't want to have to heal from a open wound again.
592047 tn?1243385987 s are....... How does an infection / abscess in the mother cat affect the unborn kittens?? What sort of abnormalities can occur in the kittens?? And..... How long does it usually take for abscesses to heal?? My cat is in so much pain and is still lame in her paw, but the vet said he doesn't want to give her any painkillers because she is pregnant.
Avatar f tn If the strength of the site is compromised a wound can be pulled apart even much later. I once had an abdominal incision abscess and it nearly turned into gangrene. I'd call the doc at least, and if the drainage is not clear but like pus and/or has a bad odor, I would treat it with urgency.
Avatar n tn There are many new strains of bacteria around that will not die when subjected to the usual round of broad spectrum antibiotics. I would suggest you see a specialist in infection and wound care for a consult.
Avatar m tn A month ago I was hospitalized for an infected wound in the back of my head as well as an abscess in my neck. Both were drained. Had taken a couple of antibiotics during my treatment. Now I've been off of antibiotics for a couple of weeks and my wound took a long time to close so I was given an antibiotic ointment. The wound closed as the scar is about the size of a nickle or quarter. but I accidentally wiped off what it appears to be an early form of scar in the middle of the entire scar.
Avatar f tn Prior to the first incounter, I had cut my gums and had a wound. After the sex, I had an abscess pop up on my gum line. I popped it a couple times, but it kept coming back. Around 7/18, I got a sore throat and just an ill feeling. I had some night sweats (that may have been due to alcohol) but never a fever. Saw my doctor 7/23 and started Doxcycline just in case something was up. I then had the abscessed tooth removed 7/31.
Avatar n tn My friends dog is a 9 year old cockapoo, and the other day I noticed she had a red bloody spot in her fur behind her head, on the backside of her neck. The lump is about the size of a walnut; hard and leaking small amounts of blood. My friends not sure if the dog scratched it to make it bleed, so she took a close look at the sore spot and gently squeezed it getting more blood and puss out of it. She then washed it with antiseptic wash and covered it.
Avatar f tn I had an abscess in my right breast 10 years ago and it left a little lump after it healed. Two weeks ago I developed an abscess in the same spot. My GP recommended a week of antibiotics (Augmentin) and it started to drain on its own two days back. I feel a thickened area which hasn't gone down. Should I be worried? The abscess continues to drain slowly and I have covered it with sterilized gauze. Please help.
Avatar f tn I was always advised to use Polysporin (an antibiotic cream in Canada), and to keep the wound covered in a non-stick bandage. This will help to collect and draining and control infection. Other women have used clays, etc. to heal their wounds, with good success. Some women will have multiple draining wounds at one time..they do tend to stay open while the inflammation is active, so that the debris fluid can drain out.
Avatar f tn It may have closed over and looked fine but unless it was flushed out well, there's probably still some bacteria in the wound which may now be growing. If it was my pet, I would take it in to be seen rather than wait to see if it becomes worse and therefore more difficult to fix.
Avatar m tn My 6 yr old son had an abscess on his right forearm between the elbow and wrist in middle which was 13mmx7mm . After 4 weeks , one day it suddenly started leaking i mean the pus from the abscess and we got it drained and cleaned . He was given 4 more days of antibiotics on the day of drainage , moxclav and fusidin cream to apply in the area for 10 days and to keep the area clean. The place of the abscess is flat now and little redness around the whole from where it was drained .
Avatar n tn Starting this March I began not feeling well only to find out after 5 repeated noncontrast use CT scans that I have a abdomen abscess. I was treated three time may-aug with 2 jp drain tubes and then a wound vac. After thinking I was o.k. through sept and oct. we have found through ct no contrast a "residual abscess". What causes this? Also why is it that some radiologist claim they cant "see" an abscess, yet its there (3.3cm x 1.6 cm) and the surgeon can look and see it?
Avatar m tn So I've gotten an abscess surgery and its been healing well for the past four weeks but I've noticed that the wound has suddenly gotten a bit bigger. The area around the wound is also purple/white. Why did my open wound get bigger after healing so well?? Thank you.
Avatar f tn I should note, I had VERY OCD post-surgical wound care. I was in my surgeons office at least 2X weekly to get it drained, and then packed etc to promote healing without ANY pockets from the inside out. 24. Did you have imaging done? Loads. 25. Did you use a wound care vac? (?) 26. Did a member of your medical care team make recommendations to change your diet? No. 27. If so, what changes were recommended? 28. Have you used natural remedies to manage your IGM? No. 29.
Avatar n tn It felt like he was poking the abscess with the sharp sissor and then dragging it around the inside edges of the wound. Another very painful and tramatic experience! He wanted me to come back to the hospital the very next day because I also had an infection inside called cellulitis which is "a very serious condition" and must be watched carefully. Usually the packing remains inside the abscess for two days and then removed.
Avatar m tn The causes of non healing groin abscess could be due to underlying infection, low supply of oxygen to the wound that is reducing the healing process, underlying diabetes, or due to underlying dermatitis. Wounds heal slower in smokers or alcoholics .Discuss with your doctor the above mentioned possibilities. Do keep us posted. Best of luck and regards!
