Abscess after discectomy

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess after discectomy

abscess

Avatar f tn 20th Feb 2009 I had partial discectomy on L5/S1. On the third day after operation I have found that on walking or certain movements, I would get dreadful muscle cramps in the leg, sometimes so painful it seems worse than the original sciatica pain. Can anyone advise me as to whether this will eventually go or whether more surgery is necessary and who should I consult, orthopaedic surgeon or neurologist?
947040 tn?1300685387 I finally had surgery (after doing all the conservative things) and listening to good advice fom many people I had posterior laminectomy discectomy C5-6, C6-7 and some work on C4, was wondering how soon I should see results from the sugery afterr healing time? the sugeon already said if this did not correct the problem then he would do an anterior apprroach with fusion and include multiple discs from C3 though C7. any advice would be geatly appeciated.
Avatar f tn Ask your physician for a prescription for a transdermal lidocaine patch. Cut to size and wear no more than 12 hours a day. Place over the injured discs.
Avatar f tn Hiya I have just had my 3rd discectomy and laminectomy 3 weeks ago and I already know I'm no better off. I know people will say it takes time to heal and so on but the relief I felt after my first is nothin like now :( any way my question is has anyone had a few discectomys and then something else?? Is there anything else out there? Or do I just have to keep popping the pointless pills and get on with it??
516865 tn?1224207354 I had been in so much pain for 10 years that I opted for the operation. I had a triple discectomy and fusion and was out of bed 1 hour after the op. I had great support in hospital. very hard when u go home if u dont have a great support network. I suffered from panick attacks due to muscle weakness in the neck.
Avatar f tn From all that I have read, it takes a long time, up to a year sometimes, to recover full strength from this type operation. And yes, the do recommend a change in jobs if possible. Is this a work-related injury? If so, you would probably qualify for re-training, if your doctor says you can't return to same job. Good luck on your surgery.
Avatar m tn My first surgery in 2008 was an anterior discectomy C 5/6 that failed due to my own faults. The second surgery in the same year was a posterior laminectomy in the same location. I struggled with a lot of pain for 3 years. Not until last year did I found out that both surgeries had failed.
Avatar n tn I am 30 years old and am back in a normal routine after having a discectomy approximately one year ago. My life before the surgery largely consisted of working out, jogging, doing work outside in the yard, etc. I now find myself constantly worrying about reinjuring myself. I was off of work for about four months and it was a miserable time. I was told that the next step (if reinjured) would be fusion surgery.
Avatar n tn I have had back and right leg numbness and pain for about 18months i have had a discectomy after mri scan, also revision decrompression surgery after original surgery failed. i am now 3 months on from this and still having leg problems(burning sensation, muscle weekness) i am also constantly tired and experience dizzy spells, also i have lost some hearing on my left side. could this be ms,it is another 2 months before i see my neuro its driving me daft wondering.
Avatar f tn Peekawho is right..you probably need a dose pack of steroids..I had the same problem after my discectomy..they put me on a dose pack, and after the first pill, the pain in my butt and down my leg went away..hang in there..my surgeon explained it this way..."the reason you are experiencing that pain, is because the nerve that has been pressed on by the disc for so long, is extremely "pissed off" and needs time to cool down..
Avatar n tn One doc said a discectomy would relieve both leg and lower back pain. Another said it would help leg pain, but not back pain. Currently, leg pain is not a huge issue (it was before an SI injection). I have numbness in left leg/foot along with intermittent pins and needles in the right leg/foot. I have significant pain in lower back (at the tailbone), pelvic area and hips. Symptoms get worse when sitting or standing for more than 15 min.
Avatar n tn I started on keflex and scheduled a root canal ASAP. After the root canal and finishing the keflex the abscess was still there. My endontist downplayed it like it's no big deal but he drained the abcess and put me on clymdamycin. Finished all the clymdamycin and the abscess is still there. Endontist says it could take months to heal and sent me on my way. I feel like I need a second opinion. I still have a pea sized abscess on my gums idk what to do.

Avatar f tn prior to the surgery, she had shooting pain in her right leg and numbness in her right foot and could barely walk and was on complete bed rest. MRI showed disc prolapse at L3-L4 level. after the discectomy operation, the shooting pain in her thigh and back disappeared. but the numbness in her right foot persists, and she even has pain in her right foot as she walks with each step. the pain is quite bad and it isn't showing many signs of improvement either.
Avatar n tn I was up walking an hour after i awoke and have had po pain since.Let me assure after having been through the cervical dabacle i was very skeptical of those who say they feel remarkably better as soon as they wake-up well i did and am still quite taken aback that i am one of those people now.Again if this is in the vicinity of your problem let me know as there were other matters addressed during the surgery.
Avatar n tn The recovery time after a fusion is 6 months to a year with restrictions for many months after that. The recovery time for a discectomy is 3 weeks.

Avatar f tn I had an abscess in my right breast 10 years ago and it left a little lump after it healed. Two weeks ago I developed an abscess in the same spot. My GP recommended a week of antibiotics (Augmentin) and it started to drain on its own two days back. I feel a thickened area which hasn't gone down. Should I be worried? The abscess continues to drain slowly and I have covered it with sterilized gauze. Please help.

Avatar f tn it was down to the heel, now it is to the knee? I had pain after the surgery and pain down my leg, after 2 months I complained and the doc said it would heal one mm a day.
Avatar n tn In Nov 2008, I had a swelling below my right breast which was diagnosed as "Abscess". It would ooze out puss with blood and was very painful. After healing,a scar developed around that spot and A FOUL SMELL THAT OF PUS actually emanates from that area(i.e when you touch the area surrounding the scar) What could be happening inside?
