Zyvox and vre

Common Questions and Answers about Zyvox and vre

zyvox

Avatar f tn I picked up VRE while in the hospital which was treated with 14 days of IV Zyvox. The VRE came back, in my urine, and I was hospitalized again last week and put back on Zyvox (oral this time). I am also on IV clindamycin and azithromycin, and a long list of other medications. While in the hospital they did daily blood work, of course, and my results have gotten progressively worse. They told me to follow up with my pcp, but my pcp is pretty much useless.
306245 tn?1244384967 s 2, something with his large intestine where the doctors thought it would rupture(dad refused surgery) he was septic from a UTI something about VRE from the UTI. and he has pleural effusions and one is encapsulated. he keeps running a low fever (they say it due to fluid restrictions he dehydrated) Now to repeart the real issue he keeps coming back with a positive UTI and can't come of VRE precautions.
Avatar f tn Hi and sorry you have this problem. We are not doctors on here but I am a microbiologist and can try to give you some advice. I think a couple of things that could be happening are: 1. that she is being reinfected from her surroundings, either at home or school etc. 2. She isn't getting a strong enough set of antibiotics to knock it out. 3. It could be colonizing (inside) her nose and reinfecting her from her nose. So, you may have already done these things but if not: 1.
Avatar f tn The results of the first sonogram stated right kidney 10.6 cm and lef 11cm. Mild left sided hydronephrosis and a cyst of the right renal pole 1.3 x 1.4 cm. Otherwise negative. I was told prior to this surgery that it was an incidental finding and not to worry about it at this time. The sonogram taken in the PICU seems like it is on a different kid: it states: right kidney 7.3 cm left kidney 11.2 cm. Increase in renal echogenicity bilaterally. No evidence of hydronephrosis.
Avatar n tn s and one surgery for a port ( my veins were shot) as well as a round of Zyvox pills ($82.00 a pill or $1600.00), I still tested positive. As luck and God would have it, I had been taking amoxicillian before all this happened so I thought "why not finish it, nothing else has worked". I knew when I took the amox, I had started to feel better. I talked my local PA into putting me on 8 weeks of it and low and behold, I have tested negative 2x.
Avatar f tn All of this does not happen at the same time as one swelling goes down (bumps gets bigger and harder) the other appears. Went to a clinic and the nurse said it might be mersa and recommended me to a doctor. This doctor (infectous deseases) told me it was normal. This is not normal. Cause I am freakng out with these bumps that scratches, spread and leave extra dark marks. He gave me some Bactrim to take.
Avatar f tn t keep and process the needed level of Prograf and because of that occurs rejection. Is this posible to happen because of the feeding?
Avatar n tn the cultures and urine showed Staphylococcus epidermidis which was treated with success with vanc and zyvox. i know S. epi. is a common skin flora but i am confused as to how i was infected. Any insight?

Avatar f tn A 2nd opinion is a requirement here and I agree-TELL THEM EVERYTHING. If you are hitting the streets for heroin, then maybe you need to be talking to a counsellor as well. I have chronic pain and at times it makes my life miserable, however, some how the idea of using street meds for relief doesn't sound like a good idea. You need to talk frankly to you MD's. Tell them about withdrawals and they will help you with that as well.
Avatar f tn I just had a mri down as well as i think they call it a BRE and VRE, its were they test my brain waives, one was were i layed there for 30 min with sensors all over my head the other also had sensors but i had to listen two so clicking sounds through headphones then i had to watch this video.
Avatar f tn s foley who was on contact for Mrsa in the urine and blood, vre and c-diff. While emptying her foley I felt something wet go in my eye not alot but right above and fall down. I quickly finished and then rinised my eye. While getting ready to leave the coworker then shooked the patients blanket in my face! I advised my supervisor and saw an urgent care Dr. She didn't do any tests or anything just say infection or mrsa is hughly unlikely and saw me back in a week and released me.
Avatar f tn He was in the hospital and had a fifth of his lung removed at one point. He just went to a new doctor, and this one gave him Doxycycline and Prednisone. (Antibiotic and Steroids.) Since steroids suppress immune system functions, I think that's completely backwards. They were prescribed for the MRSA. Have you ever heard of sterioids prescribed to help with MRSA treatment? Also, could you suggest some preventative MRSA treatments for me to look into so I may suggest one to our primary?
Avatar n tn There is already a large scar from the last infection on my cheek that turned into cellulitis and was incredibly painful and left a red patch and a white scar in the site. Right now it is trying to return with a black small line just underneath the skin where it always happens. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn Good afternoon and thank you to anyone/everyone whoever takes the time to read and respond to posts like this. It's so appreciated and provides much comfort to those of us who are really struggling without a place to turn. Sadly, I've been suffering for 7, coming up to 8 months. Back in December of last year, I ended up holding my bladder far, far longer than I should've.
1070570 tn?1283436213 The acquisition of vancomycin resistance by enterococci has seriously affected the treatment and infection control of these organisms. VRE, particularly E faecium strains, are frequently resistant to all antibiotics that are effective treatment for vancomycin-susceptible enterococci, which leaves clinicians treating VRE infections with limited therapeutic options.
Avatar m tn I've been recently diagnosed with enterococcus and it caused urinary tract infection. Now, my question is - could enterococcus be transmitted on other persons through kissing (via saliva etc.)? Is it present in the mouth? And in what ways enterococcus is transmitted anyway? What kind of complications could it cause?
367994 tn?1304953593 It appears treatment is done in a hospital setting and your husband may need to take antibiotics for two to six weeks to clear up the infection. Once your fever and the worst of your signs and symptoms have passed, your husband may be able to leave the hospital and continue antibiotic therapy in an outpatient setting. He will need to see his doctor regularly to make sure your treatment is working.
Avatar m tn Now I have been here another 6 days (total of 12 days sick) and have been on about 3 different IV antibiotics from Zyvox, Zosyn, to Levaquin and am on breathing treatments. Now both x-rays and CT scans are showing it has spread to both of my lungs and has gotten much worse. I also now have a horrible cough. My white blood cell count has remained normal and are not elevated, which indicates my immune system is not responding and Dr's can't explain why.
Avatar m tn Sir, I am surprised that an ENT was not consulted even prior to this point. I have the exact same condition with these differences. Moving from a light to dark area is an additional trigger and I have severe tinnitus which changes prior to an event (from mostly high pitch ringing to additional low frequency noise...like the sound of a helicopter). For me I have had all the medication, VRE, C-Scan, MRI, and every test known.
Avatar m tn m not sure if this would be a reaction to that medication. I went to the doctor yesterday and he looked at my penis briefly and prescribed me Cipro and said it should go away in a few days and to see him again if it didn't. What's your take on the matter. This really ***** I am a mild hypochondriac but it seems like herpes to me. Sigh. Thanks for your time and answers on the matter.
Avatar f tn He has a very aggressive Hep C which began attacking the new liver and enzymes peaked at sgot 1200 and sgpt 950..Hep C attack verified by biopsy...Prograf decreased and enzymes now much lower though still over 100(alk phos always normal) bilirubin elevated and continues to rise slowly, very jaundiced, ammonia rising, return of ascites and mental confusion, sleeping all the time and not eating. He did not tolerate antiviral therapy 7 years ago.due to.
1872456 tn?1320302661 m 23yrs old now). I went from getting bladder infections every few years (and the doctors telling my parents I would "grow out of it") to getting them every few weeks the older I got. In the last few years I have been getting kidney infections almost monthly as well as kidney stones and renal abscesses. At first doctors gave me antibiotics (cipro, bactrum, levequin etc) to take at home which worked for a few years.
Avatar m tn The nurse just left and said that she has "VRE" which from what little I've read so far sounds like another pain to deal with. Are any of you familiar with this infection? This is the reason for the yellow gowns. She still has a catheter and from what I've read, this should be removed immediately.
