Avatar f tn I know what you are going through. My dog (12 year old Beagle) started having seizures in Jun 2014. My dog went through about the same thing your dog is going through. Apparently, my dog is very sensitive to PB. Have tried several dosages on her & she does ok with a very, very low dose but the seizures come back in 2-3 wks. Right now she is taking 1/2 tab in a.m., 1/2 tab in p.m and every other evening she takes 1 full tab (this is 16.2 mg).
Avatar m tn My dog Bella started having seizures a few months ago (she is 5 years old). Her first seizure started as a focal seizure and then into a grand mal seizure that was followed by two more seizures over the next 8 hours. After that she was having cluster seizures weekly. The vet did bloodwork and put her on zonisamide 100mg twice a day. She continued having them so vet doubled her dosage to 200 mg twice daily. She continued having them but they were much shorter in duration.
Avatar m tn t find a workable dosage of phenobartibal, you might want to ask your vet about either Dilantin, Valium, potassium bromide, felbamate, or a different type of anti-seizure medicine that can be used in conjunction with potassium bromide and/or phenobarbital together called Zonisamide. Zonisamide is totally unrelated to any of the other anticonvulsants, but, like Keppra, the full extent of its side effects is not yet known so to some vets, it is somewhat controversial to prescribe it.
Avatar n tn I have a 1 year 4 month old German Shepherd named Melo who's been having seizures since he was 1. I just wanted to share my experience because I know its comforting to hear stories of other people that are going through what you're going through, makes you feel less hopeless. Melo had 4 seizures in the span of 2 hours, he's taking 300mg of Zonisamide every 12 hours but before take refill arrived he had ran out and that's when the seizures happened.
20840438 tn?1530997576 Every dog is different and you have to try a lot of anti seizure medications to find the right one, for my dog its zonisamide. I would just be patient with him, the medications confuse him and he's also restless because he's scared another seizures will happen in any moment.
Avatar f tn , now they have added Keppra to his phenobarbital and after a visit with an animal neurologist, who believes my dog has a tumor based on some exercises he put him through, and added prednisone to the mix, I feel all of this is excessive and unsafe for my dog but he's never had any medical conditions before so I don't know what is 'normal' in doggie meds - are pheno-barbital, Keppra and Prednisone commonly prescribed together for seizures?
3248373 tn?1346981993 I was put on topomax for complex migranes about 7 months ago and they put me on 100 mg 50mg in the morning and 50mg at night and friday of last week they upped my dose to 200 mg because my migranes were getting worse. Today all of a sudden I am itching everywhere and its been a constant thing all day and it wont stop ! no rashes though weird but I am wondering if its the meds. But I am also on lamictal as well so is anyone else having these problems ?
Avatar f tn I have been seeing a regular neurologist to see if she can treat my migraines and am currently on 150 mg. of Zonisamide every night to try to help that, but I am also working with Dr. Gardner at UPMC, who is a Chiari specialist. He believes it is best to eliminate all other possibilities before actually resorting to surgery to treat the Chiari, which I respect. I go back for a 6 month follow-up MRI and consult with Dr. Gardner next week.
15422595 tn?1440452745 She was initially put on Zonisamide but after 2 weeks, she had a couple more seizures. At that point the docs added Phenobarbital. We've had her blood tested and the PB is at the proper levels in her system. The good news is she's not had any seizures since then... the not so good news is that she's still not adapted well to the meds after 7 weeks.
Avatar n tn My dog was diagnosed this past fall and we have had a hard time controlling his seizures with medicine; he has approx 1 seizure every 8 days, on pb AND KBr, so I have panicked that maybe he has a brain tumor, or something worse, also. However, with no other symptoms other than the seizures, and because of his age (1yr), my vets assure me it is likely a very stubborn form of epilepsy and that spending the money on MRI's, etc.. is not necessary at this point.
Avatar f tn Monday late morning we brought him to our vet and they said his vitals fine and gave us Zonisamide after the Valium wears off. Monday night all he did was walk around confused and drooling insistently. He drank some water and ate very little. Monday night he finally calmed down in bed but never shut his eyes. His eyes were open the entire night and he was not very responsive. We brought him to the vet this morning and he had a fever of 106.
979826 tn?1389036358 has anyone heard of Zonisamide? i will go on this drug once i come off topamax I've been on topamax forever!
Avatar m tn However, I think that interpretation is not for the test that my dog had done. The low dose test interpretation says something about Cortisol levels greater than 1.4. This is not her fault, she did not order the blood work but I want to call her and let her know which test my dog had done so that she knows what part of the interpretation of results to look at. My dog is now having a hard time getting up and walking. Could it be something else connected to Cushings?
1577473 tn?1296177286 in my area to be seen by a neurologist. I saw the doctor for the first appt and she put me on Zonisamide as a migraine preventative and Maxalt-MLT 10 mg as a rescue medication as well as ordering some labs, an MRI and an MRA. All tests came back normal. The Maxalt worked well when I got the migraines but insurance wasn't too happy with it so we had to switch. She then put me on Relpax which didn't work at all.
1402028 tn?1280858335 s have been performed. The seizure medication I was on was called Zonisamide...and it made all of my symptoms worse. I was taken off of that and put on Amitripylene, which I am currently on. It doesn't seem to be doing a whole lot but the doctor wants me to try it for 3 months and I am on month 2. My sleep pattern is messed up badly now as well; I don't know if it is from the medicines, or just lack of exercise since I'm stuck indoors so much now. Thank you for the help.
Avatar m tn My vet used to recommend it for his arthritic dog patients until one strange case happened. After the first dose, the dog became sick and started vomiting blood, and by the time the owners got him back to the vet the dog died. The aspirin literally ate a hole right through the stomach. I've used tylenol on my dogs (per vet instructions) in the past for early onset hip dysplasia, but found it not all that effective.

Avatar f tn of effexor and i couldnt sleep at nite so my doctor started me on 25 mg. of zonisamide and took me off effexor.I am having horrible side effects but dont know which med. is causing it.I have been crying in the mornings, having a constant stomach ache and my head feels very confused almost to the point of disillusion. Which med. is causing this?Should my doctor have me on antiseisure meds for depression?
Avatar n tn However, keep plenty of water on hand for your dog. If you happen to miss a dose, give it to your dog as soon as you remember it. However, if you don’t remember until it is nearly time for the next scheduled dose, just forget about the missed on and administer the next regularly scheduled dose. Never give a double dose of Previcox. Should you accidently give your dog too much of the Previcox, you must get emergency veterinary help immediately.
Avatar n tn B complex 50mg combination in which all of the B vitamins contain 50mg would be a good one for your dog to take, at 1/4 of a human adult dose.
