15422595 tn?1440452745 Hello and thanks in advance for any thoughts. Our 5 y.o. Basset/Beagle mix was officially pegged with epilepsy about 2 months ago after she started having multiple seizures in a day. She was initially put on Zonisamide but after 2 weeks, she had a couple more seizures. At that point the docs added Phenobarbital. We've had her blood tested and the PB is at the proper levels in her system. The good news is she's not had any seizures since then...

1577473 tn?1296177286 in my area to be seen by a neurologist. I saw the doctor for the first appt and she put me on Zonisamide as a migraine preventative and Maxalt-MLT 10 mg as a rescue medication as well as ordering some labs, an MRI and an MRA. All tests came back normal. The Maxalt worked well when I got the migraines but insurance wasn't too happy with it so we had to switch. She then put me on Relpax which didn't work at all.
Avatar f tn I have been seeing a regular neurologist to see if she can treat my migraines and am currently on 150 mg. of Zonisamide every night to try to help that, but I am also working with Dr. Gardner at UPMC, who is a Chiari specialist. He believes it is best to eliminate all other possibilities before actually resorting to surgery to treat the Chiari, which I respect. I go back for a 6 month follow-up MRI and consult with Dr. Gardner next week.
Avatar m tn Causes may be psychological, smoking, alcohol, illicit drugs and medical conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart or thyroid conditions, poor circulation, low testosterone, depression, spinal cord and neurological causes. To exactly pinpoint a diagnosis you need to get a complete examination done from a urologist. It may be due to your medicines and you may need to change them or get the dose monitored.

Avatar n tn I took him to the animal medical center and they gave him one pill of phenobarbital and also about 15 zonisamide pills. I took him home gave him the pb and 3 pills of the zoni. He was whining non stop, really hungry, really thirsty, forgot some of the house rules (not going through the trash and no standing on the kitchen table), he seemed to not recognize my parents and didn't respond to words like "outside", "eat" and "treat".
Avatar f tn Lately I have been having constant anxiety and I rarely worry about things this bad or this long. I believe it is caused by Biotin because I had a similar fit about three years when I stopped taking Biotin, but I did not see a link then; I got prescription Ativan for anxiety took it for only three nights and the problem went away almost instantly.
Avatar m tn t find a workable dosage of phenobartibal, you might want to ask your vet about either Dilantin, Valium, potassium bromide, felbamate, or a different type of anti-seizure medicine that can be used in conjunction with potassium bromide and/or phenobarbital together called Zonisamide. Zonisamide is totally unrelated to any of the other anticonvulsants, but, like Keppra, the full extent of its side effects is not yet known so to some vets, it is somewhat controversial to prescribe it.
979826 tn?1389036358 ve been on topamax forever and a day! haha and i saw an article on this and i sent it to my nl and asked him about it and he said we could try so i am coming off the topamax and going to start this I've been on every med know to man with no help and I've had lots of surgeries a few decompressions. your positive reaction gives me hope!!!! i hope you keep getting better!!!
Avatar m tn The vet did bloodwork and put her on zonisamide 100mg twice a day. She continued having them so vet doubled her dosage to 200 mg twice daily. She continued having them but they were much shorter in duration. So the vet added phenobarbital 1g twice daily in addition to her zonisamide 200mg twice daily. My question is about the side effects. It has been a week since the pheno was added and she is still very clumsy and can't even walk up stairs.

20840438 tn?1530997576 While I was out of town and my husband was home with him he had 2 seizures over the night on a Wednesday and possibly 1 during the middle of the night on the Tuesday night before. He was immediately taken to the vet on Thursday morning and I believe had one seizure there. They treated him with Diazepam (Valium) and after spending the day under observation sent him home with additional doses to be given. He was to return the next morning after fasting for additional testing.
1402028 tn?1280858335 I had never had one before and ever since I have been experiencing horrible heachaches and sensetivitiy to light and other things. I have been seeing a neurologist, who has tried 2 different medicines. I know it is a long process, but it is really putting my life on hold. It is keeping me from finishing college as easily as I would have liked and I lost my job.
3248373 tn?1346981993 I was put on topomax for complex migranes about 7 months ago and they put me on 100 mg 50mg in the morning and 50mg at night and friday of last week they upped my dose to 200 mg because my migranes were getting worse. Today all of a sudden I am itching everywhere and its been a constant thing all day and it wont stop ! no rashes though weird but I am wondering if its the meds. But I am also on lamictal as well so is anyone else having these problems ?
561706 tn?1333947274 I have been having bouts of double vision for the past year. I have been screened for MS and a brain tumor. Doctor's stuck. Has anyone had a problem with this, too. I used to have migranes years ago, but my aura was a different kind of visual disturbance. I don't get very bad headaches with these episodes but my head starts to hurt some of the time. Thanks.
Avatar f tn I graph my headaches daily and average a 5 on a 0 - 10 scale, no changes noted with Zonisamide treatment. No days are 0. I avoid taking any OTC medications and use the Naproxin and Imatrex very sparingly. An MRI a year ago showed bulging but it was discounted as unimportant by my neurologist. A week ago my PT however suggested an exercise for correcting a bulging cervical disc that she feels I may have. She knew nothing of the MRI results.
Avatar n tn Hey i take effexor and serouquel and i have had a seizure and blackout recently , they think its coz of the meds i wasnt drinking when it happened and i dont remem a thing from it but my advice would be to be carefull when you drink, doctors cant guarantee that it will or wont bring on a seizure but it def does increase the risk of having one plus once you have had one the odds of having another are much greater. Its another worry you dont want to have.
Avatar f tn I also have Asthma and Epilepsy to which I take Lamictal, Zonisamide, Albuterol(when needed-which is quite rare), Claritan, and Singular. Now on another site I spotted an area that stated certain OTC meds can cause problems with Gerd. My question is I also Take Vitam that of Multi Vitamins, Omega 3-6-9, B-12, Deodorized Garlic, Ginger(which isn't too often though I did purchase a bottle to begin in the near future on a daily basis), and Ginseng.
Avatar m tn MY FATHER HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. COULD THIS BE INHERITABLE? I AM 46 YRS. Avatar f tn My 6 year old australian shepherd cross started having seizures starting in April of this year (he had 1) and in June, he had a cluster of about 12 in a 24 hour period and was hospitalized for 2 days. Since then, he has been on Pheno-barbital and was doing well until this last weekend when he had another seizure, followed by another within a couple of hours. We took him back to the emergency hospital and he was released the next morning without having any more seizures in the night.
Avatar f tn Monday late morning we brought him to our vet and they said his vitals fine and gave us Zonisamide after the Valium wears off. Monday night all he did was walk around confused and drooling insistently. He drank some water and ate very little. Monday night he finally calmed down in bed but never shut his eyes. His eyes were open the entire night and he was not very responsive. We brought him to the vet this morning and he had a fever of 106.
Avatar f tn You could try asking about Rozerem which is an FDA approved medication that works in a similar way to melatonin to adjust the sleep cycle and is non addictive. Some people find it helpful although each person responds differently to each medication.
Avatar m tn MY GASTROLOGIST SEEMS TO THINK THE PAIN IS GAS AND THE BLOOD IS ALSO RELATED TO MY GASTRITIS AND DIVITICULITIS. I AM A LITTLE MORE CONCERNED HOWEVER. SHOULD I SEEK A SECOND OPINION OR DISCUSS THESE CONCERNES WITH MY PRIMARY CARE DOCTOR? I FEEL THE PAIN MORE WHEN I EAT. I HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH SEVERE HOMORRHOIDS AS WELL. I AM ON MULTIPLE PRESCRIPTIONS AS WELL THAT I HAVE BEEN TOLD COULD BE AFFECTING MY HEALTH. THESE INCLUDE: 1) LEVETIRACETAM 1,000 MG. 3X DAY/ 2) DIVALPROEXE 500 MG.
735676 tn?1257572226 I have meloxicam (7.5 mg) that I take for the pain and I was taking Zonisamide (100 mg) twice daily but that is not helping me either. I am missing entire days/weeks due to this constant pain and am basically at my wits end. I have a neurologist that I have been seeing, but she seems more intent on passing me pills when I really want to try and find out what is causing this.
408958 tn?1214843583 I think i can promisse u its gonna get better , 2 weeks after my first tx i was amazed over the big differens in mood thoughts and everything. Like someone else pointed out.
Avatar f tn ve recently went to the neurologist and they want to put me on zonisamide. But some of the side effects are kind of freaky from what I've read. I guess I'll see what happens. Hope you find something that helps. But I just wanted to let you know that your not alone in this there are blogs with lots of people with this problem. They call it Visual Snow check out some blogs and good luck.
