My c ondition now is post herpetic neuraglia left over from shingles in the top of my head, forehead, eyebrow and left eye. have anyone tried Zonegran for post herpetic nueraglia (PHN) and did it help. The Lyrica is now affecting my eyes so I am desperate to get off it. Any answers/experiences are much appreciated. Thanks much.
Avatar f tn t think of them at this time) I am now being treated with Zonegran, Depakote. The Zonegran was working for a little while but I have seemed to reach a plateau. I have not been migraine free at all since November, but there have been times where my migraines have been less painful. I work for a health insurance company and I am on the computer for 8 hours a day. I have been unalbe to work a full time scheule for the past 3 months due to my migraines.
Avatar f tn Well, not long after this I started having some neck pain. I also notice that if I lay on my left side the left side of my face, neck, left arm and hand all go numb. I have had CT scan of head and MRI of brain (all normal) as well as thyroid checked, sugar, hormones etc. Tried Chiropractic, accupuncture and physical therapy. My neurologist says NDPH but I feel like we are missing something. Mainly because I have not had a MRI of neck as of yet.
1303966 tn?1296740010 Has anyone with Chiari had success with Diamox? I'm currently on Zonegran for L-temperal lobe seizures, but the constant pressure and full feeling in my ears and mouth is driving me crazy. Told possible Meniers by ENT, but my Neuro thinks it's the Chiari. She wants to try Diamox, but wants to clear it with my Chiari specialist because of the Zonegran and risk of kidney problems (dehydration).
Avatar n tn Hello, I very much need an answer because my doctor will not give me a straight answer. I'm currently on Lamictal (800mg a day) and Zonegran (200mg a day) and I'm a college student so I tend to drink. I've never had a seizure while consuming alcohol but I'm terrified when doing so. So heres my question... When I drink (beer) with my meds, will it bring on a seizure? or just enhance the side effects? Please I very much need to know asap! Maybe even stories would helpl too.

Some suggestions for pain relief though .... try Capsaicin cream, it's OTC & made of chili's !!! It works really well !!! Also since the pain is on the skin, ask your doctors about topiramate, it's for nerve pain. Also Nucynta which is also for nerve pain !!
1303966 tn?1296740010 Does anyone know of any medication for complex seizures (L-temporal lobe) that won't make you feel like a zombie? I take Zonegran 200mg and I have absolutely no energy. I'm typically very active and moving all the time. I don't even have the energy to grocery shop or cook anymore. This is ridiculous! I also take Diamox, not sure if this has any affect on my energy level. Recently had a CBC done, and it came back normal. I just started these meds 4 months ago.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with pseudotumore cerebri. I am on zonegran and lasix. I think that the swelling in my optic nerve has gone down. I used to just have visual disturbances (auras) right before migraines. For the past 3 months I have had to wear sunglasses almost constantly because I am very photophobic even without a headache. And for 3 months I have had all kinds of visual disturbances. They are happening all the time even in the absence of a headache/migraine.
1303966 tn?1296740010 I went off the Zonegran because my hair was falling out and my tachycardia spells stopped. At least I hope so. I also think my meds were causing a lot of my anxiety. I don't have this anxiety attacks since stopping seizure medication. I take butterbur for my headaches and this is suppose to increase the oxygenated blood to the brain. I feel so much better these days.
Avatar f tn I am allergic to the zonegran, blisters in my mouth etc. The others caused severe leg pain, eye pain, anorexia, hairloss, and I suppose i could go on. But you get the picture. Hmmm, might have to find an epilepsy center, and at least have that quality of life discussion with current doc. Last two conversations have been with his physicians assistant, and she is useless to talk to.
695000 tn?1316136048 I agree with something like gabapentin helping. Right now I am taking Zonegran which is the best so far for me, it has really knocked the pain out, and stabilized my moods. Acupuncture has also done wonders for me in helping with this skin pain and provides almost immediate relief after the treatment.
1303966 tn?1296740010 I felt like I was going to pass out and I shook like I was cold for about 10 minutes after. I do take zonegran because I started to have partial and complex seizures late 09 and I'm pretty sure I had some sort of epileptic activity in my brain prior to this happening. I'm wondering if this is the zonegran I just started in November, or could it be related to the Chiari?
Avatar n tn Traumatic brachial neuropathy is a painful condition and in some patients even after painkiller medicines pain is present. You should consult a pain management clinic with anaesthesiologist for TCNS therapy and epidural analgesia.visit this website also : http://www.drnathbrachialplexus.
Avatar f tn hi could someone tell me if nerve pain goes away ?
Avatar f tn You may have a condition called meralgia parasthetica. This is pressure on a nerve that causes this pain and also you will feel pain or numbness on the skin. If you are overweight, the only way to stop this, or from it getting worse is to lose weight. Groin pay can also indicate osteoarthritis in the hips. I would suggest you see your doctor so that he can evaluate and find what is causing this problem. Best wishes.
Avatar m tn I have nerve damage in my leg after major back surgery and double knee surgery. It has been over two years and the chronic pain I will live dose not make the nerve damage and the oain I aleeady have. Mine didn't gwt this bad untul after the surgeries. I just had an EMG rest done so they could rule out bone root damage which requires more surgery. I am know in low dose pain patches and a topical compound which has lessened rhe shooting pain that goes along with the numbness and pain.
Avatar f tn What would cause burning nerve pain in my right forearm and right thigh?
689327 tn?1240229164 The first thing is to make absolutely certain that the nerve has been decompressed-- if this was an open procedure I guess I should assume the nerve was visualized and there is nothing pinching or pushing against the nerve. Beyond that the only thing I know of would be the 'usual anticonvulsants'-- neurontin in high doses, lyrica, tegretol... sometimes a small amount of an opiate makes a big difference.
Avatar n tn Hi, I had an accident on my ll5 with the porcellain crown above and it must have trapped a nerve because when i had it removed the same pain went to ll4, i am seeing a specialist as it feels like something is pushing on my ear, the tooth is very sensitive to very hot and very cold so I was hoping to get it root treated to remove the nerve in tooth......the symptoms are horrible sucking sound in mouth, toxins and a blocked ear usually after 2 x colds......
Avatar m tn You did not state were your mom is experiencing her severe pain. I'm not a Doc. but to me it in deed sounds like a nerve pain called diabetic neuropathy! Diabetic neuropathy affects all nerves therefor it can also affect all organs. The blood flow is restricted do to the vessels which supplies the nerves. This is a very common illness that Diabetics can suffer from. Depending on how long your mom had Diabetes, that is how the treatment will be determent, which only a Dr. can do.
