Avatar f tn A friend said she took Zonegran for nerve pain and it helped her tremendously. My c ondition now is post herpetic neuraglia left over from shingles in the top of my head, forehead, eyebrow and left eye. have anyone tried Zonegran for post herpetic nueraglia (PHN) and did it help. The Lyrica is now affecting my eyes so I am desperate to get off it. Any answers/experiences are much appreciated. Thanks much.
Avatar f tn t think of them at this time) I am now being treated with Zonegran, Depakote. The Zonegran was working for a little while but I have seemed to reach a plateau. I have not been migraine free at all since November, but there have been times where my migraines have been less painful. I work for a health insurance company and I am on the computer for 8 hours a day. I have been unalbe to work a full time scheule for the past 3 months due to my migraines.
Avatar f tn What are you taking this drug for. And hw long have you been taking it. I have Fybromyalgia and possibly MS. I take it for nerve pain and have been on it for a year.
1303966 tn?1296740010 Has anyone with Chiari had success with Diamox? I'm currently on Zonegran for L-temperal lobe seizures, but the constant pressure and full feeling in my ears and mouth is driving me crazy. Told possible Meniers by ENT, but my Neuro thinks it's the Chiari. She wants to try Diamox, but wants to clear it with my Chiari specialist because of the Zonegran and risk of kidney problems (dehydration).
Avatar f tn Zonegran is awesome! It really has worked great for my daugther with little to no side effects. Initially, there was some problems with being a little sleepy during the morning, but that wore off. It also did cause some appetite suppression in the morning, but that wore off too. I hope you find the right dosage and it works well for you too. Were you able to lose the weight you gained off of the Trileptal?
Avatar n tn As you can see alcohol use is not recommended for use with Zonegran in particular. but is usually not recommended for use with most medications. That is because it can increase or decrease the effectiveness of the medication or cause unwanted side effects. Personally, although I haven't found any literature that indicates that seizures will occur if you use it with Zonegran and Lamictal, I would avoid it completely or minimize its' usage.
Avatar f tn netnet979, aldunn72023, dixielilly, ElsepthG, Auspiciousme, gypcwmn, JamieA76, KickedoldSally, Stevie0521, Stevie you said they diagnosed you with Lyme Disease where you bite by a tick ?? Some suggestions for pain relief though .... try Capsaicin cream, it's OTC & made of chili's !!! It works really well !!! Also since the pain is on the skin, ask your doctors about topiramate, it's for nerve pain. Also Nucynta which is also for nerve pain !!
1303966 tn?1296740010 Sorry to hear about everything! I know how you feel...have been on a number of different anti-seizure meds for 14 years now, and totally understand how you feel. If it helps, things usually improve somewhat after you've been on the meds for 5 or 6 months....kind of get used to the dosage, although it isn't easy to deal with all the side effects.
Avatar f tn He said that without any evidence of swelling in the optic nerve there is a 1% chance that I have IIH. As for the double vision. He said that although I only notice it in one eye, it is actually happening in both eyes. Apparently, there are some muscles that are stronger than others and that I was born that way. He said that it gets more prominent as we age. He also said that there is surgery to correct it but at this point there is no reason to do it as it is not that bad.
1303966 tn?1296740010 Hi, yes..this is not uncommon for those with chiari...it can be just the chiari...or u may have related issues..such as a thyroid condition, or a condition called POTS...... Do talk to ur Chiari Dr about this.
Avatar f tn I am allergic to the zonegran, blisters in my mouth etc. The others caused severe leg pain, eye pain, anorexia, hairloss, and I suppose i could go on. But you get the picture. Hmmm, might have to find an epilepsy center, and at least have that quality of life discussion with current doc. Last two conversations have been with his physicians assistant, and she is useless to talk to.

Avatar f tn I am having really awful intermittent pain in my arm. My neuro wrote a script for Lyrica. My big concern about these nerve pain drugs (Neurontin too) is the weight gain side effect. I struggle w/weight as it is and don't look forward to adding more. Please let me know what you may have experienced.
Avatar f tn Surgical techniques used for use in back pain: nerve burning vs blocking and risks involved. Mostly concerned with the nerve burning for back pain risk vs results.
Avatar n tn I know Lyrica is for nerve pain. In the past, anti-inflammatories have done absolutely nothing for me, so I don't believe that my pain is being caused by inflammation, as one of my docs suggested. I may as well have been taking candy. I just know that I don't want to continue on the vicodin, but I need something. I guess it doesn't hurt to ask...
Avatar m tn Cymbalta actually worked for me after I had a major back surgery...i had alot of nerve damage in my sciatic and the cymbalta helped me while they were doing procedures to ease the nerve pain such as epidurals and rfas...however getting off of it was not the easiest thing I ever had to do...my dr lowered the dose and got me off of it safely but I was still going through some moderate withdrawals like shaking and nausea but they only lasted a few weeks and I was fine afterward...
Avatar n tn Here is the question he wants to do a nerve block to ease the pain more long term could collapse a lung during the procedure. Has anyone had a nerve block injection for their pain and was it effective. Please help if you can. I have a bad feeling about having this done.
Avatar n tn I have tried therapy and exercise, but whenever I try to use the leg too much, I get unbearable nerve pain. My doctor recently gave me a nerve block but it had the opposite reaction, and I'm due to see him again in a week. I was just wondering if there were any suggestions on how to handle this. I've been trying for years, but it's just getting increasingly worse. Thank you for your help.
Avatar n tn t afford it after a health plan change whch is definitely showing me it worked for the pain. LOL I have pain pump I hope they wll be able to do something in that for te nerve pain.
Avatar m tn Again I know that there are many other first line medicines for nerve pain that most of whcih Ive tried, neurontin, lyrica, amitrypilline, acupuncture and some others, but I dont want to go use any sort of opiate for pain. So has anyone who has taken klonopin who had some kind of nerve pain get any relief???? That is the question. Thanks.
695000 tn?1316136048 I agree with something like gabapentin helping. Right now I am taking Zonegran which is the best so far for me, it has really knocked the pain out, and stabilized my moods. Acupuncture has also done wonders for me in helping with this skin pain and provides almost immediate relief after the treatment.
Avatar n tn Nothing is worse than nerve pain - absolutely nothing. I am so sorry you are suffering. Have you see a neuorologist regarding the nerve problems you are experiencing? If not, I would suggest you do so. Depending on what they see in your xrays and labs, they may want you to see a rheumatologist, but that would only be the case if you show signs of an autoimmune form of arthritis.
Avatar f tn Gabapentin works for some people and not for others. Compression of a nerve or nerve root typically isn’t helped that much by medications unless the compression is relieved first. Medications can help ease pain but not numbness once the compression is relieved.
Avatar m tn What could you recommend to use for nerve pain other than Lidocaine patches. I have been using the patches with wonderful relief for 2 years and now Aetna says they will only cover them for post hepatice neuralgia. They even denied my doctor's appeal. Two years ago I had laminectomies of L2,L3,L4,L5,S1 after many ESIs and SJIs. I also have my sciatic nerve running through my piraformis muscle. The surgery got rid of most of my back and sciatic pain and I no longer use a walker or wheelchair.
