Common Questions and Answers about Zonegran migraine headaches

zonegran

Avatar f tn t think of them at this time) I am now being treated with Zonegran, Depakote. The Zonegran was working for a little while but I have seemed to reach a plateau. I have not been migraine free at all since November, but there have been times where my migraines have been less painful. I work for a health insurance company and I am on the computer for 8 hours a day. I have been unalbe to work a full time scheule for the past 3 months due to my migraines.
Avatar n tn I do not know who to go see about the aura, I had my eyes checked when the doctors were thought I had MS and I have 20-20 vision and no floaters. I presently see a neurologist who has me on zonegran 2oo mg and flexoril 3 times a day and Diflucan as needed and Maxalt. When the headaches get out of control she puts me on prednisone. I also see a physical therapist at her office weekly for the headaches. I have had trigger point injections ( did not help).
Avatar f tn 17 of 2012 around mid-morning when I began to have vision problems that included spots in my eyes and almost like a shadow fell over my left eye. I thought perhaps I was going to get a migraine since I had heard people describe them that way. The vision probs lasted about 45 minutes and when it went away a headache set in. It was what I would call a mild to moderate headache. Ever since I have a headache. Most days it is tolerable but always uncomfortable.
1303966 tn?1296740010 I have a history of complex migraine, but I'm on zonegran so they are controlled. I also take the zonegran because of seizures. I personally think my seizures have something to do with my migraines (migralepsy). I just started having them at 40 after having steady headaches and migraine symptoms. Anyways, today it is rainy and typically this weather is bad for my migraines, but I don't have a headache, but I feel a little weird.
Avatar n tn Hello, I very much need an answer because my doctor will not give me a straight answer. I'm currently on Lamictal (800mg a day) and Zonegran (200mg a day) and I'm a college student so I tend to drink. I've never had a seizure while consuming alcohol but I'm terrified when doing so. So heres my question... When I drink (beer) with my meds, will it bring on a seizure? or just enhance the side effects? Please I very much need to know asap! Maybe even stories would helpl too.
Avatar m tn Does anyone know anything about valsalva headaches and POTS? Can POTS cause headaches associated with straining, coughing, head movement etc. I have googled a lot but I don't seem to find anything.
1303966 tn?1296740010 I went off the Zonegran because my hair was falling out and my tachycardia spells stopped. At least I hope so. I also think my meds were causing a lot of my anxiety. I don't have this anxiety attacks since stopping seizure medication. I take butterbur for my headaches and this is suppose to increase the oxygenated blood to the brain. I feel so much better these days.

Avatar f tn I have a headache that the doctors call a migraine. But I get migraines also and this is not like that at all. It is a pain that I get on the right side of my head. The best description that I can give would be the same sensitivity on the right side of my head as one would get if you have sensitive teeth and drank something hot or cold. When these headaches start, nothing could touch my head. I can't comb my hair, put on a hat or rest my head on that side.
Avatar f tn Since October I have tried Lortab (3 strengths), gabapentin, Lyrica, Ultram, Relafen, Zonegran, and Trileptal. I am also on Cymbalta and Ambien. Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn I also noticed that when ectopics set off a tachycardia afterwards, then it would directly cause a headache and often migraine. Understanding headaches and migraines is a neurological specialty as is cardiology -unfortunately specialists often have very blinkered views! My suggestion would be to keep a headache/ectopics diary - maybe using one of the migraine diary sheets from the migraine charities - then you can present some evidence to a Dr.
Avatar f tn Sinus infections can cause one sided headaches also. Your headache is possibly a combination of sinusitis and migraine. I would suggest you to continue for the antibiotic for the prescribed duration. If there is no improvement, you may need an alternate antibiotic after culture and sensitivity test. Also you can take steam inhalation at least 3-4 times and once before bedtime. This will help in clearing the sinus’ by liquefying the phlegm and relieve the pressure headache.
Avatar n tn Often times, over-the-counter pain medications can make migraine headaches worse. Prescription migraine medications, known as triptans, are often needed to stop a migraine headache, but you need a prescription to buy these and you must get a prescription from a doctor. I hope that information helps.
Avatar m tn I am waking up at 3:00 a.m. with severe migraine headaches. My blood pressure is 240/128. I am 26 yrs. old. I have no insurance. My neck has been stiff for about a week now. I went to the emerg. room and had a CT scan and they gave me some blood pressure medicine but the next day it came right back. I fall in the floor with pain and I have no where to go. Can you help me with these headaches and the blood pressure?
Avatar f tn Hi NowOrNever, I got the headaches too. Excedrine Migraine does help. As others have said, it is a part of the withdrawal, your body is trying to get what it wants. I still get headaches sometimes, so will definitely try the peppermint oil suggestion. I am thinking of you today and hoping you feel better.
Avatar f tn Metoclopramide is a good medication to discuss with your doctor because not only does it stop the nausea and vomiting associated with migraine headaches, but it will also help to stop the pain associated with migraine headaches. Metocloprmaide can be taken even if you do not experience nausea and vomiting, it can be taken along with triptans and analgesics in order to improve the pain killing power of your other migraine medications.
Avatar m tn I have recently been waking up with a stiff neck and headaches. I have been experiencing headaches for about a week now, I have no history of headaches and i'm worried that its something serious. I recently went to the hospital and had blood test and a Cat Scan performed and everything came out normal but i have not improved. Also my eyes feel tired, im sensible to light and my teeth hurt. Would the cat scan rule out anything life threatening such as a tumor or meningitis??
Avatar f tn It is used to achieve prompt suppression of inflammation. It is used in the treatment of certain types of headaches. One of the most common use is headaches is for episodic Cluster Headaches. It usually breaks the painful cycle of migraines. Do you experience Cluster Headaches? Are they episodic or chronic? When ppl have chronic cluster headache, most patients are on continuous daily medication to prevent the clusters.
Avatar n tn Yeah... that is a type of migraine. My face has gone numb before during migraines, like frozen and stuff... as if I've been to the dentist or something, haha. And, the first time that stuff went numb I thought I was having a stroke because my arm and half my face went all numb, but just on one side of my body, and i had no strength in that side of my body... i was sure that i was having a stroke!! But the ER was like "oh no no it's just a migraine, don't worry.
Avatar f tn It has been quite awhile since I've posted anything. I'm still having daily headaches that constantly fluctuate all day long. I've been diagnosed with occipital headaches, cervicogenic headaches, and migraine type 1 headaches. I have the classic migraine symptoms of visual disturbances, light and smell sensitivity, nausea, and upset stomach. I have multiple back problems along with fibromyalgia that kind of make a bad situation worse.
Avatar n tn Headaches are of different types like tension, migraine, sinus and cluster headaches. Your headaches seem to be coming in cycles with either pain free interval or reduced intensity. They seem like cluster headaches. Please see these two links for more information on them. http://www.relieve-migraine-headache.com/cause-cluster-headache.html http://www.relieve-migraine-headache.com/cluster-headache-treatments.
Avatar f tn I am getting lots of headaches. Also had two migraines. Tylenol isn't really helping a ton with the migraines...
Avatar f tn Hi i am 12 and sometimes before i get a really bad headache my vision goes blurry and i see dots and get dizzy. Is this normal? Also, when i take medicine for my headaches it just makes them like A LOT worse. is there anything i can do bcuz this happens a lot a school and we cant bring medicine to school, and my teachers get annoyed when i have to keep leaving the room.
Avatar f tn There are others that tend to cause weight gain, though, such as Depakote (which is also used to prevent migraine headaches). A good neurologist should be able to choose the right drug with the right side effect profile. Obviously, weight gain and/or increased appetite would be desirable. I would also ask that her doctors go over her current list of medications and look for any that could be causing weight loss or loss of appetite.
