Common Questions and Answers about Zonegran for migraine

zonegran

Avatar f tn t know that was possible) migraine for the last 3 days which is how long I have been on this medication. I have shaking episodes and not sure how they correlate with migraine but the finger pricking glucose test are fine, A1C is fine and glucose (CBC) numbers are good so I don't think it's a diabetic relation. The shaking is quite concerning as it comes out of nowhere.
Avatar f tn t think of them at this time) I am now being treated with Zonegran, Depakote. The Zonegran was working for a little while but I have seemed to reach a plateau. I have not been migraine free at all since November, but there have been times where my migraines have been less painful. I work for a health insurance company and I am on the computer for 8 hours a day. I have been unalbe to work a full time scheule for the past 3 months due to my migraines.
Avatar n tn Nine years ago the migraines began getting out of control and for the past 3 years have caused my health and way of life to severely decline. I need someone to tell me if the white matter lesions on my brain (not MS) are a sign of an upcoming stroke. Also, I have an aura daily of black lines and bursts of white lights. When I wake up in the middle of the night it flashes and is really beginning to irritate me.
1303966 tn?1296740010 I have a history of complex migraine, but I'm on zonegran so they are controlled. I also take the zonegran because of seizures. I personally think my seizures have something to do with my migraines (migralepsy). I just started having them at 40 after having steady headaches and migraine symptoms. Anyways, today it is rainy and typically this weather is bad for my migraines, but I don't have a headache, but I feel a little weird.
Avatar f tn A friend said she took Zonegran for nerve pain and it helped her tremendously. My c ondition now is post herpetic neuraglia left over from shingles in the top of my head, forehead, eyebrow and left eye. have anyone tried Zonegran for post herpetic nueraglia (PHN) and did it help. The Lyrica is now affecting my eyes so I am desperate to get off it. Any answers/experiences are much appreciated. Thanks much.
Avatar f tn Zonegran is awesome! It really has worked great for my daugther with little to no side effects. Initially, there was some problems with being a little sleepy during the morning, but that wore off. It also did cause some appetite suppression in the morning, but that wore off too. I hope you find the right dosage and it works well for you too. Were you able to lose the weight you gained off of the Trileptal?
Avatar f tn I am 31 year old healthy female. I work part time and have 2 small children. On Sept. 17 of 2012 around mid-morning when I began to have vision problems that included spots in my eyes and almost like a shadow fell over my left eye. I thought perhaps I was going to get a migraine since I had heard people describe them that way. The vision probs lasted about 45 minutes and when it went away a headache set in. It was what I would call a mild to moderate headache. Ever since I have a headache.
Avatar n tn As you can see alcohol use is not recommended for use with Zonegran in particular. but is usually not recommended for use with most medications. That is because it can increase or decrease the effectiveness of the medication or cause unwanted side effects. Personally, although I haven't found any literature that indicates that seizures will occur if you use it with Zonegran and Lamictal, I would avoid it completely or minimize its' usage.
1303966 tn?1296740010 Has anyone with Chiari had success with Diamox? I'm currently on Zonegran for L-temperal lobe seizures, but the constant pressure and full feeling in my ears and mouth is driving me crazy. Told possible Meniers by ENT, but my Neuro thinks it's the Chiari. She wants to try Diamox, but wants to clear it with my Chiari specialist because of the Zonegran and risk of kidney problems (dehydration).

1303966 tn?1296740010 Sorry to hear about everything! I know how you feel...have been on a number of different anti-seizure meds for 14 years now, and totally understand how you feel. If it helps, things usually improve somewhat after you've been on the meds for 5 or 6 months....kind of get used to the dosage, although it isn't easy to deal with all the side effects.
1303966 tn?1296740010 Hi, yes..this is not uncommon for those with chiari...it can be just the chiari...or u may have related issues..such as a thyroid condition, or a condition called POTS...... Do talk to ur Chiari Dr about this.

Avatar f tn Focus was on migraine management- referral to partner for Botox injections which I declined, and Zofran and Zonegran prescribed- (felt too foggy and headaches worsened so I stopped med), tested for Anderson-Fabry’s disease-negative. Spring 2012- mammogram and breast ultrasound 3cm lymph node tail of right breast, also intermittent axillary and inguinal lymph node enlargement, increased fatigue, night sweats, no fever.
1303966 tn?1296740010 I started Zonegran in Nov. I saw my Neuro yesterday and she asked about any seizure activity. Of course I told her I had a seizure in March. She ordered a sleep deprived 1 hour EEG because she said she may need to change my medication if I'm still having epileptic activity. Is this really necessary? The complex seizures I was having when I first started having seizures were really bad, and this seizure I had in March was nothing compared to those.
Avatar m tn Not sure if that was a reaction to the new migraine med I was on for 5 days or not, it probably dehydrated me worse and I also wonder if that migraine med is what caused me to fail the Tilt Table Study. I was already on it for 4 days when I took the test. Should have followed my instinct and waited to start the med but they all said it would be fine. Do you take an antihistamine? If so, which one. I truly believe for me it is a neck issue causing me all these different problems.
Avatar f tn He is now able to start learning, and he came off of all medication except for 75 mg of zonegran. He was on 1400mg a day. It has made a huge difference. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I have been on so many of them, and the side effects are worse than the seizures. For example, the keppra I just got off of messed with my hormones, heart rate and blood pressure. I found out by taking it, that I have a mild case of neurally mediated syncope which the keppra elevated to the point where i had to be hospitalized. It also caused major weakness and fatigue to the point where I couldnt work. And believe it or not, that was the minimum dose.
Avatar f tn Then an awful h/a developed. Over the course of 5 weeks and 5 different antibiotics the doctor put me in the hospital for iv meds (levaquin & tobromycin & solumedrol & morphine). I received a ct scan of the sinuses which came back normal. I was released a few days later with levaquin, prednisone, loretab, phenergan, and nasal spray. I was told I had chronic sinusitus and to see an ent. When I got home I started seeing the aura again and my ears felt like they were going to explode.
Avatar f tn Experiencing a migraine while 7 weeks pregnant and i would normally pop a migraine pill but obviously cant. Has anypne ever taken tylenol during pregnancy? I read that it is the safest thing to take but just nervous.
851310 tn?1238980845 A migraine attack without the classical symptoms of aura, headache and nausea is classified as atypical migraine. A silent migraine, ocular migraine etc are all examples of atypical migraine. Generally this occurs in response to weather changes, spasm of blood vessels of the brain, insufficient sleep, motion sickness and exposure to bright lights. Hope this helps. I think you should discuss these possibilities with your doctor. It is difficult to comment beyond this without examining.
Avatar n tn Beta Blockers are one class of migraine medication. I currently take a Beta Blocker for my migraines as well, called Nadolol, which is different than Inderal. A different Beta Blocker may provide the same relief that the Inderal used to provide you. The other two classes of daily preventative medications are antidepressants and anticonvulsants. It would be worth trying the class of medication that you have yet to try.
Avatar f tn My question is, are my current symptoms really migraine aura? They last for only a few seconds, while migraine auras always last for at least 15 minutes.
