Common Questions and Answers about Zoloft weight

zoloft

Avatar f tn I do not understand how this has happen but I am looking for answers or advice on how to lose this weight. I have just recently weened off Zoloft and am hoping to see some improvements.
Avatar f tn I run competitively and have been on Zoloft. I am not sure if the weight loss is due to the drug. I would suspect it could be from depression, pressure, etc, but that weight is definitely not healthy. Most people here on this forum will actually talk about weight gain while on these types of medications. Is your daughter talking with a counselor? If not, it may time to do this, especially with the weight loss...please keep us posted!
245504 tn?1224099316 Could this be from the Zoloft? I know alot of people have gained weight but I thought it was with long term use. Also I only take 12.5 mg a day. Please give ur feedback?
459279 tn?1206997145 I was on Zoloft 50 mg for 6 months, blood pressure was up and still was having anxiety and trouble sleeping, so my Dr increased the Zoloft to(100mg daily) and recently added buspar, 3x daily, I do feel better except my weight is going up even with exercise which is causing allot of new stress. Would you agree the meds are increasing my weight? I'm a while make 46, 5'11 199 lbs.
Avatar f tn I have tried many antidepression medication with severe side effects; gastritis and weight gain. I am presently on 20mg Prozac which is ok on my stomach but is ineffective with the depression and of course weight gain. I'm thinking of trying Zoloft. Does it bother your stomach. I've pretty much accepted the weight gain, but can't handle the stomach pain & depression. Ialso take 0.5mgof Ativan daily. Any advise?
Avatar f tn I've been on Zoloft for about a year now. I've gone to various sites and looked at user reviews ect. My psychiatrist has been getting testy with me about changing my medication so I don't really feel like talking to him about it. I get very self conscious and. This summer I weighed 93 lbs. I have a very small body frame and I'm very petite and not even 5' 2", I was very happy with where I was at.
1354136 tn?1331875317 Zoloft on it's own is not supposed to cause weight gain. The weight gains observed are mostly due to increased calories intake, modification of lifestyle habits.
Avatar m tn Yes, weight loss can be a side effect of Zoloft. Stop eating all the junk food, you're setting yourself up for future health problems. Also, you may have lost some muscle mass due to no longer lifting weights. If you continue to lose weight, contact your doctor about it. Take care.
Avatar f tn Or just the Zoloft? I took Zoloft over ten years ago for a year and a half and did not experience this weight gain. Any advice would be great! Thanks!
Avatar f tn I am 26/Female, 5'4", and weight about 145 pounds. I just started on Zoloft to help with some anxiety issues I have been having. My goal is to lose about 10 pounds just for my health. I am worried about gaining weight on Zoloft and can't seem to find an answer as to whether it is the medicine that makes you gain weight, or mentally feeling better that makes you eat more and you gain weight. Can you address this please? Thank you!
Avatar f tn Hence I cannot say with certainty that stopping Zoloft will restore the weight. The decision to taper off Zoloft should be based on the clinical symptoms. It is best to take your treating psychiatrist's opinion regarding the weight gain issue. Zoloft can be gradually discontinued over 3-6 weeks. You can reduce 25mg/week for a 3 week taper. If you experience symptoms of the discontinuation syndrome, you may go back to 75mg and try the slower taper (25mg every 2 weeks).
527657 tn?1214051850 Hello, I have been on Zoloft for nearly 6 months and I too was worried about weight gain... I haven't gained any weight. Since I was worried about it I kept good track of my weight and appetite to notice any changes. It cannot change your metabolisum so the weight gain would be a result of increased appetite and therefore won't "sneak up on you".
1354136 tn?1331875317 Correction: Zoloft is a SSRI with no significant weight gains observed, which is rare with SSRIs.
Avatar f tn i am taking methadone and tried many different antidepressants, until finally staying with zoloft. i gained almost 40 lbs since 2011 after becoming sober. i was bound to an opiate addiction for almost 10 yrs due to chronic pain and am now 2 and a half yrs sober. i had a hypothyroidism problem as well, and was prescribed medicine to help with metabolism. to give you an update as to where i am today... i am still taking methadone for chronic pain.
Avatar n tn Keep in mind you could gain weight on Zoloft or any ssri, and your weight gain on Paxil has been minimal -- I gained 50 pounds over several years on it. And be careful going off it, it can be difficult. Do it slowly and carefully.
Avatar f tn im taking 50 milligrams of zoloft a day was getting sick taking the whole thing at once so i broke it in half half in morning half at night.
Avatar n tn in the mix of the next few days I forgot to take my Zoloft and I was feeling a lot better. Mind you, I had just began taking Zoloft to begin with so it wasn't in my daily routine to continue taking it. A few days later, I took my Zoloft again and the pain came back. My family and I realized the cause. Long story short, my time taking Zoloft was short. Maybe two weeks? Barely three? But, I noticed shortly after my weight went from 150/151 range in the mornings to 152...153...154...
Avatar n tn I went from 127 to 123 after taking Zoloft. Some people gain weight, some lose weight, and others dont experience a change in weight at all. Are you getting plenty to drink? Losing 7 Ibs over about a week is more likely water loss than fat/muscle loss.
Avatar f tn Quitting cold turkey can be a problem full of surprises. This is a new one, but my guess is, once you're done with your body adjusting to being off the med you'll probably lose the weight -- usually weight is gained being on these meds, but withdrawal is like a short period of intense medication weirdness.
142722 tn?1281533616 The risks seem to out weight the benfits to me at this point - weight gain, thyorid problems - i am already hypothyorid and taking meds for it why make it worse - i have lost 53pounds since my baby was born - why would i want to gain weight - anyone know what other med would be good for mixed state with mostly manic states -
