Zoloft for weight loss

Common Questions and Answers about Zoloft for weight loss

zoloft

Avatar m tn Yes, weight loss can be a side effect of Zoloft. Stop eating all the junk food, you're setting yourself up for future health problems. Also, you may have lost some muscle mass due to no longer lifting weights. If you continue to lose weight, contact your doctor about it. Take care.
Avatar n tn I went from 127 to 123 after taking Zoloft. Some people gain weight, some lose weight, and others dont experience a change in weight at all. Are you getting plenty to drink? Losing 7 Ibs over about a week is more likely water loss than fat/muscle loss.
Avatar f tn long story short...zoloft definitely seemed to be the weight gain culprit for me...but I think wellbutrin is either helping me lose weight or recharging my metabolism! Yay!
Avatar f tn I run competitively and have been on Zoloft. I am not sure if the weight loss is due to the drug. I would suspect it could be from depression, pressure, etc, but that weight is definitely not healthy. Most people here on this forum will actually talk about weight gain while on these types of medications. Is your daughter talking with a counselor? If not, it may time to do this, especially with the weight loss...please keep us posted!
Avatar f tn Hello and welcome! I'm assuming you were put on the Zoloft for anxiety? Can you share a little bit about your history of anxiety? How long have you been experiencing anxiety? Have you tried any other treatment methods, like therapy? Zoloft is a very commonly Rx'ed antidepressant for anxiety disorders, because of its success rate and ease of tolerating it for most people. It's actually the most commonly prescribed antidepressant for anxiety.
Avatar f tn Hi, I was on Zoloft for three years - 150 mgs. I gained about 50 pounds and I've now been off Zoloft for nearly a year. Although I haven't gained any more weight, I haven't LOST any of it either, despite strict diet and exercise. It just won't budge. Does Zoloft permanently screw up your metabolism? My doctor told me after a month or two being off, the weight would start falling off, but it never happened. She now says I may have a thyroid problem.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Zoloft for two months and my sex drive is pretty much gone. Is there anything I can do to increase it? Should I try another medicine? My friends suggested Wellbutrin. I don't know though. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn Absolutely. I lost 12 pounds in 3 weeks. Have you had off the hook anxiety for the last 6 to 8 months? For me everything tasted like cardboard and I had no desire to eat. If that is the case for you, it isn't healthy to be in this state of anxiety so you may want to consider talking to your doctor again.
Avatar f tn Most weight loss aids, won't help you lose a lot of weight; or if they do, chances are that you will gain it all back again once you stop using the product. You would be much better off to implement some small lifestyle changes, such as drinking water instead of soda, eliminate sugary foods, as well as those made from white flour; switch to whole grains, brown rice, low/no fat dairy or other small changes. They don't all have to be made at once.
459279 tn?1206997145 I was on Zoloft 50 mg for 6 months, blood pressure was up and still was having anxiety and trouble sleeping, so my Dr increased the Zoloft to(100mg daily) and recently added buspar, 3x daily, I do feel better except my weight is going up even with exercise which is causing allot of new stress. Would you agree the meds are increasing my weight? I'm a while make 46, 5'11 199 lbs.
Avatar m tn She was surprised when I reported the weight loss at our 4 week check up so I am presuming that weight loss is not normally a symptom of Zoloft.. Do you think the Liothyronine was the reason for the weight loss? If so, can I replace my Thyroxine drug (T4) with the Liothyronine? Is Liothyronine a T3 drug? Thanks....
614508 tn?1265281722 My understanding from the drug handout is that it is normally prescribed for migraines, seizures and weight loss. My doc has just increased my dosage to 100mg 3x per day. I have experienced some deterioration in my eyesight however I'm not sure if that's attributed to age (hadn't had my eyes examined in 2 years) or the Topamax which I've been on a lower doze for 6 weeks. Other meds: Lithium, Zoloft, Ativan. Any advise would be welcome.
Avatar f tn Or just the Zoloft? I took Zoloft over ten years ago for a year and a half and did not experience this weight gain. Any advice would be great! Thanks!
1330182 tn?1279815900 First of all because we are all different regarding medications but also Zoloft is a relatively soft AD which is good for med sensitive person like you. Zoloft have no strong evidences of weight gain in the literature but like I said every person can react differently considering medications. I think going back on Zoloft and managing a careful dosage and diet. Another suggestion you can talk about with your psychiatrist is trying a sedating AD like mirtazapine.
761614 tn?1234300320 Have been taking Zoloft for 3 years and find that I feel okay but some of the things that were stressing me have gone away. I am going to try to get off of it. I recently got off of my Crestor, after a Medifast diet that let me lose 40 pounds. That helped a lot. I am hoping that with the weight loss that will also help with the withdrawal of other meds.
Avatar f tn I have tried many antidepression medication with severe side effects; gastritis and weight gain. I am presently on 20mg Prozac which is ok on my stomach but is ineffective with the depression and of course weight gain. I'm thinking of trying Zoloft. Does it bother your stomach. I've pretty much accepted the weight gain, but can't handle the stomach pain & depression. Ialso take 0.5mgof Ativan daily. Any advise?
Avatar n tn s been this other issue, but it has help greatly with my anxiety. Did you have weight loss?

Avatar f tn my daughter took zoloft for a couple years and gained a bunch of weight. she now takes effexor and likes it better and has lost the xtra weight. i take proxac, don't know if it works or not. i love lukey has it right about getting off our tails. excersise makes me feel better.
Avatar f tn I have read that wellbutrin is safe to take during pregnancy and can cause weight loss (I am talking weight loss before pregnancy), so if it works as an antihistamine as well, it might be perfect for me. Thoughts??
