Zofran generic name

Common Questions and Answers about Zofran generic name

zofran

Avatar f tn The only difference between generic brands and name brands are the name there is absolutely nothing else more or less in the medication when you buy name brand medication you are paying for the name and that's why the generic is so much cheaper and that's why most doctors prescribe you the generic because it's cheaper they legally cannot put any more or less ingredients in the medication just because of the name..
Avatar f tn Ondansetron is Zofran hun. Its just the generic name for zofran. Even though theres a lawsuit, id say its more of a money maker. I took it both pregnancies and my babies came out fine. Youve got to look at whether the benefits outweigh the risk with ANY medication. If youre miserable and need to eat for baby, take it. My advice is try to only take it when u really need it, not on a regular basis. Stop as soon as symptoms ease up. Lots of water too.
Avatar f tn also that is the generic name for Zofran forgot to add that have a happy healthy 9mths.

Avatar f tn I was originally prescribed zofran.. But then there was a back order because of the pending law suits and whatnot. So my doctor prescribed phenegran instead (generic name is promethazine). It's worked wonders! I'm about 16 weeks and I've taken it almost every day since week 7.. And a lot less scary side effect potential.
Avatar f tn Hi again:) wondering what you take for morning sickness? I have taken OTC b6/unisom didn't help. Now on zofran but my good ins plan ends sat. Zofran without insurance using generic name, I can't think of it now but it costs 311.00 dollars without ins. You ladies know of an rx that is cheaper without good insurance since I will have to pay out of pocket. Thx for your time.
Avatar n tn i take both zofran and phenagren (promethazine is just a generic name)
Avatar f tn I take Zofran everyday..usually get away w/just one pill...4mg...generic name is ONDANSETRON... Cost @ Walgreens for 30 pills is $495.00 USD..it is covered by most insurance companies...I did take phenegram..12.5mg as needed..made me tired and also mixed w/my antidepressants @ night and gave me restless leg syndrome... I like the Zofram a lot better.. NO SIDE EFFECTS... and it works quickly... Hope this info helps...
Avatar f tn Hey, I noticed your comment & my OB/Gyn put me on Zofran as well but after I saw on the TV that it could & has caused birth defects I stopped taking it right then & there & called my OB/Gyn & told her about this. I had the exact same concern because I had been taking zofran for the first 20 weeks of my pregnancy & I'm now 29 weeks. She said there was really nothing to worry about, I hope she was right.. She then prescribed me something else.
8564878 tn?1405305244 For my first pregnancy and this one I have taken a small pill that disintegrates in your mouth and is and has been a huge help to me. It's name is ondansatron or something like that, though I think that's its generic name. It was actually designed to help people after going through chemotherapy to not throw up but it's safe for pregnancies too. If you don't have insurance though, it can be quite pricey. Good luck. Pregnancy sickness is the worst!
Avatar f tn I took the generic zofran with my first and had to with this baby. Nothing wrong with my babies. I feel like there is a risk with every medicine. If you look up side effects to anything there is always somethi g.But sometimes you don't have a choice. I was puking non stop. Until 20 weeks. Side effects are very minimale to very few people.
Avatar f tn I have terrible morning sickness and I was given a prescription for ondansetron 4mg which is the generic version of zofran. I'm scared to take it because of the possible side effects and the warnings I've seen on TV. I don't want to take any risks when it comes to my baby. Any thoughts on this?
1201433 tn?1328997637 I just want to say it is like night and day since they gave me a script for some , started today, I was up all last night vomiting, do not suffer ask your doctor for some!!
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Promethazine (generic for Phenergan) & it helped me a lot.. the only downside, at least for me, was it made me extremely sleepy!
Avatar f tn It was a blessing in am due in 9 days and have been so sick most of the pregnancy. I spaced the name of it atm lol. I hope ur feeling better soon.
1750760 tn?1411482476 BTW, I was told by my doctor that most of the other anti-nausea meds are contra-indicated with Incivek due to interactions, but that Zofran (Ondansetron is the generic name) is fine. It USED to be hard to get approved due to expense, but is cheap now that the generic is available. In fact, it is cheap enough now that hardly anybody would blink an eye at paying for it.
Avatar f tn I'm experiencing extreme nausea am vomiting... I am 7 weeks...my doctor prescribed me zofran...I am scared to take it because I've seen a commercial about it..I took half a tab today. And I threw that up.
Avatar f tn I went to the er and got ondansetron (generic for zofran) but the doc prescribed it bc I literally kept nothing but one icee a day down. I got a script for 12 and thats it. All I know is they do not prescribe it to one indivodual in large quantities and that bc it can affect and stay in your blood for so long they have to monitor how much an individual gets.
Avatar f tn Mine never went away i had it my whole pregnancy. My insurance also wouldn't cover it. I was on the generic zofran n was still paying over $200 a month from rite aid for it. I couldn't survive with out it or o ended in the hospital with fluids in me. It broke me monthly as far as cash but it was a life saver. But i have heard that it doesn't always help everyone. I also was on phenegrin but it din work just made me super sleepy but couldn't sleep cuz i was so sick.
640548 tn?1340553355 I took the generic form of Zofran last time I was pregnant, and it did help. I had HORRIBLY bad nausea, and it gave me some relief. I hope this helps. Sorry to hear you're having a tough time, but my nurse always reminds me with a smile that morning sickness is a good sign. Take care.
1134609 tn?1269272200 ----I stabilized completely last summer and I was on the brand name version of the medication. When I switched over to the generic, I started having problems and had to increased the dose from 900mgs to 1600mgs over the space of a few months. Any changes in the dosages over this time dropped me into a deep depression and I HAD to drop the dosage many times because it was agitating me. I just assumed it was because I was adjusting to the medication.
Avatar f tn m almost 23 weeks and I had the usual vomiting in the first tri but from 14-16 weeks I was fine. But ever since 17 weeks until now my vomiting is getting worst. I take zofran when I feel nauseous but I still throw up. What else can I do. I usually throw up when I wake up from naps. Or after my breakfast.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Ondansetron (generic Zofran) by the hospital for hyperemesis from 6 weeks until 17 weeks after being admitted multiple times due to dehydration and starvation. I still felt ill after stopping but I was able to cope with it better. I asked my consultant the same question and she said no medication can be described as safe in pregnancy as no pregnant women will submit their pregnant bodies to a medical study (understandably!).
1454858 tn?1306784378 I did live on Phenergan though for 6-7 months of my pregnancy, taking it once or twice a day. Zofran itself is given a Class rating of a B, and since this is the generic, it sound be the same. It's perfectly safe to take. Many women swear by it and how much it helped them. I just didn't notice anything personally. If you need it, use it.
Avatar m tn There is medication you can get from your doctor. It's call Zofran. There is a generic version that cost a whole lot less. I have taken both and many people on hep c treatment take it. Doctors should give everyone a prescription for throwing up before starting treatment. I knew to ask for Zofran before treatment because I had throw up issues while in cancer chemo. Give your doctor a call and get relief. It works great.
