Common Questions and Answers about Zofran and migraines

zofran

8475475 tn?1403476630 I have suffered from migraines for years and learned that lesson the hard way. The zofran normally does cause constipation but I know for some it will cause diarrhea. Honestly the migraine is probably causing the nausea. I hope the er gets you to feeling better soon! Migraines are no fun!
Avatar f tn I am 47 and have suffered from migraines and headaches for about 6 years. The only thing that helped was Topamax. I used it about 6 years ago for about 2-3 months. Unfortunately, it made me extremely nauseous and my hair started to fall out. I am so desperate for relief that I asked my doctor to try it again, but at a lower dosage. The first day I took 25 mg and felt Like I had "morning sickness" all day. I am supposed to gradually increase to 200 mg by the end of the month.
Avatar f tn All they can do is zofran and a saline drip. I just have to suffer. I hate migraines.
Avatar f tn I was the same with my third pregnancy....my first two I was nauseous or would only throw up once in the morning but my 3rd was bad, had to take zofran the whole first trimester....I'm preggo with my 4th now and unfortunately the "morning sickness" was even worse...immediately 28 weeks now, I lost 7lbs before the zofran in the first trimester and sadly am still taking it once a day or I spend all day sick.
Avatar f tn I suffered from migraines before getting pregnant when I got morning sickness bad they stuck me on Zofran and one of the side effects is head aches and it caused me to have migraines. They had me sip on Gatorade when I couldn't keep much water down. Sprite and ginger ale did the same thing to me.
Avatar n tn I had to be put on meds and was diagnosed with hyperemesis Gravidvarium (severe morning sickness). I take zofran and pheneragan because that is all that helps.
Avatar f tn Hello all, I am 10 weeks pregnant and extremely sick. I have headaches, even as extreme as turning into migraines. I have all day nausea and vomiting that won't let up. I have an aversion to all food and seemingly can only keep down crackers and bread. I'm worried I'm starving my baby, as I have absolutely no animal protein, no chicken or eggs or even yogurt.
Avatar f tn We have had a negative MRI/MRA, spinal tap and blood work was ok with just WBC and platelets elevated. We started with 5 mg of maxalt, naproxen, compazine, zofran, toradol and phenergan injections. No ease of pain or symptoms! Spinal tap last Wednesday and that night, again severe headache, nausea, and vomiting. We were admitted to the hospital and given IV decadron, depakote, compazine, toradol, and Benadryl.
11970398 tn?1443134602 I had the same issue and what I did is made another appointment for earlier (cause I couldn't handle it) and they prescribed me Zofran and it worked wonders. If you don't go in till the 17th and you absolutely can't handle it make another appointment just for that.
Avatar f tn but I get a migraine like twice a month and it makes me throw up for hours! I take a cold cloth on my head and some Tylenol and sit in the dark and try to sleep.. that's really all ya can do pregnant! And drink water water water!!!!
220917 tn?1309784481 Well, this weekend was awful. My eye hurts so bad and it goes right down to my cheek and I swear my skull is sore and tender from all the pain. I have been nauseous and threw up on the way to church on Sunday--couldn't take Communion because I knew it wouldn't stay down.... I called my neuro's office this morning. I hope there is something he can do. I am scheduled to work this afternoon. I will be able to work with no problem. I am just tired of the pain. That's all.
Avatar f tn Ive tried several of the anti nausea medications and zofran worked the best for me depending on the headache. Some headaches or migraines I get none of the anti nausea medications work I end up sick anyway. Hope you can get some and it helps you.

Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with a transfer migraine last August. It started on Aug 1st and hasn't left me since. It's been an agonizing 6 months. It's called transfer migraine because it moves all over my head. I've never had one of those common migraines where the light bothers me or I get nauseated or see auras, etc. My migraines have been "light" headaches that stay with me for a few days: from 3 to five days at the most.
Avatar f tn We have tried a ton of different shots, pills and liquid medications and treatment for my chronic ongoing migraines, and over all the years I am still unclear on causes and what else to try, I feel like I am crying out for help, I feel like I have tried everything and am out of options!!
Avatar f tn Hi I'm 24 years old and have been recently diagnosed with gastroparesis. I have been out of work for 2 months because I haven't been able to function without nutrition and liquids. It's been miserable, I was seriously doubting I was ever going to make it through and I'm still working on getting through it. For the first month I was eating a slice of toast or a few crackers a day and lost 25lbs. Every time I ate I would get nauseated that I developed a fear of eating. My GI dr.
1359524 tn?1282691910 When an attack happens I take naprosen ( to reduce inflamation), zofran (nausea), and some times a low dose of meclizine. Try reading the book heal your headache the 1 2 3 cure. I just read it and he really explains what's going on to cause that feeling.
Avatar f tn I am 23 and have been suffering from intense migraines for about 12 years. Seizuresfor about 3 years, but this isn't about the seizures.
Avatar f tn All they can do is zofran and a saline drip. I just have to suffer. I hate migraines.
Avatar f tn My doctor had me take the sleeping pill wake up and take the zofran and then eat and drink. It was the only way I could keep anything down. This is my second pregnancy and the only time I need zofran is when my migraines make me so nausea I can't eat or drink. Pretty much zofran is a pregnant's woman's wonder when it's unbearable. Good luck!
Avatar n tn I use Zofran for nausea and it works well. I needed it frquently while on 3x therapy, but still need it occasionally on SOC. If the nausea becomes too bothersome the zofran is great. I never realized how debilitating nausea can be until 3x treatment. Procrit is a treatment saver for me.
Avatar f tn Get Botox injections for killer migraines every 3 months (it REALLY does stop them). Tried Zofran sublingual and throw it up, injections of Phernergan, suppositories. Have no regular appetite. If I do feel hungry I'll eat then end up puking within a couple hours. GI Dr. can't come up w/anything. I feel like crap and keep losing weight. Lost 60 lbs since 2007 simply from vomiting. Anybody want to offer ideas/suggestions.
492869 tn?1285018933 I have had no luck with any of the usual anti-emetics (phenergan, reglan, zofran, compazine) and also just finished a trial of domperidone which I had to get from a canadian pharmacy as it is not available in states. So still no relief. Sometimes eating small meals with 'soft' consistancy helps, other times the only thing that helps is not eating. I have found a muscle relaxer, zanaflex, that was prescribed for my chronic headaches/migraines to be the only thing that helps.
Avatar f tn If you have nausea with your migraines ask your doctor about a prescription for Zofran it dissolves on your tongue and helps greatly. Hot showers are not recommended for migraines the heat can cause you to get really dizzy. Next time try a warm bath with an ice pack on your head and neck. Also sleep in the darkest coolest room in your house, if you have to use a fan. It keeps your temperature down so your head can relax. I've suffered from chronic migraines for 15 years now.
Avatar n tn s migraines and not her chiari. She is considered boarderline. However, they have tried everything and the only thing that works is morphene and fluids by IV. There is NOTHING that kills her pain at home. The neurosurgeon who i really like says even a small chiari can cause intense pain. he does not want to jump into surgery, obviously, but thinks if pain isnt under control in an other 8 weeks we should consider it. Help. I need advice.
Avatar f tn What may also help is a drug called Zofran it is also available in melt version and gets in the system fast. The Zofran will help with nausea and sometimes if taken quickly may even abort the migraine without Maxalt. If you want to try the non pharmacy methods, I would strongly suggest EEG Neurofeedback from a provider using the LENS System. This method has greatly reduced my wife's migraines which for 18 years were uncontrollable. Hope this helps you.
Avatar f tn I've never heard of this before unisom is a sleep aid but i don't see why sleeping better would help with nausea i have an abnormally high level of hormones that my body produces and have been diagnosed with hyperemisis during this pregnancy and both of my previous two it's excessive vomiting due to the high level off hormones my body produces.
Avatar f tn He has prescribed Verapamil 180 MG to be taken 1 in the PM. I was also perscribed 81mg asprin a day and zofran for nausea. This is for my Atypical migraines. I am scheduled to see him next week and he wants to know if I have had any improvement with the headaches. I looked up the Verapamil and it is not approved for the use he prescribed it for. Have you heard this medication used for this purpose?
694787 tn?1227718128 I know exactly how you feel, there is another medication the doctor could give you (forgot the name) Zofran did not work for me either. I also know that shaves of ginger could help as well vitamin b-6. None of these worked for me, and after winding up in the ER twice, I was diagnosed with hypernemesis (something like that anyway) which means extreme vomiting and nausea. It did stop after I hit three months, but after all that, I lost my baby at 5 months.
