Avatar n tn These are things that you know about but with increased insulin levels your body does not process the food correctly and tends to hold onto it which is why I gained weight! Metformin is for glucose patients and that is why it helps PCOS patients. It is also used in weight loss. For me it has helped with my PCOS because I am having regular periods and it has helped me lose weight. Talk to your GYNO about it!

Avatar f tn I have had trouble maintaining my weight since menopause. I lose weight very easily now. Over the last couple of years I have had a CT, MRI, and all sorts of bloodwork. My doctor is convinced it is just one of those things. Said she has a handful of patients that have the same thing after menopause. I take effexor for hot flashes, cholesterol medication and advair. I can't imagine any of them making me lose weight so easily. I was never heavy, but watched what I ate.

Avatar f tn This is advisable for non diabetic patients. Consuming 2 tea spoon of honey with a glass of herbal tea which includes weight reducing herbs help a lot in weight reduction. Honey along with these herbs scrapes and dissolves the Kapha and medha (body fat). 5. Sleeping for less hours. Avoiding sleeping in afternoons help to increase the burning of calories. This avoids slowing of basal metabolic rate. 6. Avoiding the food and beverages which increase kapha and medha.
Avatar f tn ve had IBS with constipation for over 15 years. Before Zelnorm was removed from the market, THATS when the straining REALLY started. My parents & grandparents say I was practically born constipated. So back to my question, is there a chance the strokes came from my bathroom troubles. Any ideas?

Avatar f tn I became really concerned when last summer I was looking to loose weight for my wedding so I started calorie counting (1500/day) and going to the gym 5 times a week doing 45 mins of cardio and 15 mins of weight training. I continued to gain weight . I have had my thyroid checked and it is normal. I also have slightly high cholesterol and fatty liver which seems highly abnormal to me as I am not a big meat eater or fat eater.
Avatar f tn t eat too many calories. I have had more patients lose weight and keep it off with Weight Watchers than anything else - Weight Watchers will teach you how to lose, and if you go to meetings you have to be accountable for your weight loss (or not) - and that helps with the motivation.
Avatar f tn A modest weight loss of one pound every one to two weeks is advised. Reducing daily calories should be by 250 to 500 calories; total daily calories should not be less than 1,000 to 1,200 for women and 1,200 to 1,600 for men. Weight loss is different for each person and should be continued until a person reaches a target body mass index, or BMI (ask your provider about how to obtain this measurement.
Avatar n tn When I first got diagnosed I noticed I started gaining weight. Once I was diagnosed I was put on Zelnorm and that seemed to help me and my body to "act normally" and I stopped gaining weight. I have always been very active...I work out 6 days a week doing cardio and weight training. I also watch what I eat very closely and count my calories every day. Like I said, with my diet and exercise and the Zelnorm (I think), I was able to lose any weight I had gained.
Avatar m tn Obese patients usually are encouraged to lose weight before having surgery. Although weight loss alone is not likely to solve the problem, it can make complications during and after surgery less likely. Weight loss and nutritional counseling can help patients before and after surgery. Psychological counseling: Mental health professionals may address issues such as depression, sexual dysfunction, and low self-esteem.
Avatar m tn Would any of these diseases contribute to sudden weight loss? I have been close/over 350 lbs for years, but in the last several months I have dropped a significant amount of weight. I'm down to 287. (20 lbs in the last four weeks alone.) I wish I could say it's because I'm exercising or eating right... but I'm not. I've made no change to physical activity or diet. Any suggestions?
