Diagnosis of skin allergies includes Skin ***** tests (pricking the skin with a needle or pin containing a small amount of the allergen ('***** Testing' or 'Scratch Testing'), Patch tests (by applying a patch to the skin, where the patch contains the allergen.)And RAST.
Apart from the steroids, take some antihisatminics and vitamin c and apply some calamine lotion. Sometimes the treatment has to be taken for long periods of time.
I have been on Xyzal for 5-6 years and had to go off, suddenly, for a week due to allergy testing. I have itched and scratched myself until I have bruises on my legs, arms, and feet! It's absolutely horrible!! :( In response to the other person who replied to you, it's typically NOT an issue to stay on 2nd generation antihistamines, long-term. Nor is it a problem to quit them suddenly EXCEPT (apparently) with Xyzal and Zyrtec (both are Cetirizine-based).
I have a really really bad problem with my skin. Whenever I go outside the sun, or the heater, in general wherever it's hot, my skin gets extremely prickly and it has many red bumps all over my body. I've tried many allergy medicines such as HYDROXYZINE HCL, DOXEPIN, FEXOFENADINE, XYZAL, ZYRTEC, but they didn't help the breakout at all. I think I'm not allergic with anything, because I already took the blood test, and everything appeared negatively.
After 8 months of constant hives, lip swelling, eye swelling and finger swelling, i went to an allergist and got prescribed Xyzal. It worked great for the first 2 weeks and i was over joyed to have my life back! But the past few days, some hives have started to come back. I have been taking benadryl along with the xyzal as needed. I was wondering if I could take 2 xyzal a day instead o 1. The only other medication that I am on is ortho cyclin birth control.
None of the antihistamines helped her - her skin is very very itchy only during the nights - she sleeps only for 2 hrs though she takes atarax and xyzal - in the morning she sleeps well most of the time. We use dust mite covers and air purifier in the bedroom and avoid environmental allergens. Please advise on my daughter's situation - we still do not know the reason for her itchiness.
t already been teste for thyroid issues, it would be a good idea. My allergist put me on 2 xyzal twice a day, which was way to much. I took two doses and was weak, tired and had panic attacks. I also have celiac disease and am trying to figure out if the xyzal is gluten free. I was taking benadryl. I dont do well with any antihistamines. I was taking Benadryl. There is also an injection you can get.
Whatever is going on creates a histamine response in my body where I will break into hives or have extreme itching on my palms or ankles. I take xyzal daily, and this has helped relieve those issues, with exception to vaginal and anal itching! Nothing is visibly wrong in these areas, and I am miserable! Ice can relieve some of that, but I am miserable! My husband and son are now also complaining about similar symptoms.... what could this be? Also, skin is not normal...
No I just started the xyzal and Singulair 2 months ago and I've taken Concerta for 6 years now. The fever has been for 1.5years. I also asked allergist and she said that shouldn't be causing it. The cough we think is from allergy drainage because I live in the south and allergies are bad. The blurry vision started couple months after the new meds and Dr's don't think that there is any connection there, but thanks for the comment. Let me know if you have anymore suggestions! !

I have been getting tiny blisters/prickly heat type things on my face, lips and arms everytime my skin has prolonged exposure to the sun. I am not sure what these are? But, it mostly happens when its extremely cold, windy and specially in sun. My exposed skin turns red, my lips are swollen with allergy and its itchy everywhere. I underwent an allergy test and the dermatologist told that my body has atypical response to common allergens like dust mites and pollen.
I have been on 4 rounds of different antobiotics, nasal sprays,mucinex dm, xyzal,delsem, robitussin, prednezone and I also take protonix for gerd. Nothing seems to work I am 37 years old and for the most part have been healthy. I had a chest X-ray last May 07. showed nothing then. Should I be worried.
If you need a moisturizer, try coconut oil (tiny bit) for skin and hair. I use pure vegetable glycerin as a body lotion with good results, and I have severe skin sensitivities. If you want a more mainstream product, try Lubriderm Sensitive Skin formula (the aqua label). It's lanolin free, too. If you're allergic to wool, you should avoid lanolin. Shampoos, lotions, deodorants, etc., should have no ADDED fragrance, which includes masking fragrance.
Hi. I have hives(urticaria) almost everyday for 12 weeks or so. I've seen 2 dermatologists. I've been on xyzal,doxepine and hydroxyzine with little or any real benefit. The hives are red and itch. They come and go. Other than that I have no other problems. My doc said they usually never find a reason and most go away over time. No blood tests ordered. Anyone have any suggestions? It's annoying.
Ask you doctor about the Cymbalta one. I had one but it was only for one month. And there are really good one for Xyzal, Astepro and Omnaris. The others, I don't know. Skmedlin's advice was good.
I took my self off them and hives went away for 4 years. Now they are back, but minimally. It itches like the devil, but so far no huge raised hives. Just spots that are in my eyebrows, arms, hands, and knee and thighs. I've only had 1 raised spot. But I am back to the doctors (new ones).
Doctor recommended XYZAL. But I went to Pharmacy and the price is HUGE. Pharmacist said that Claranix and ZERTEC are in the same family.
I currently take Xyzal and Nasacort for allergies and medication for asthma (Singulair and Symbicort). I'm also taking allergy shots for cat dander and grass pollens. When I go running by wooded areas I get a horrible runny nose. My runny nose goes away about 10-15 minutes after I get inside from my run. I'm wondering if it could be from allergies or if it could be from something else.

I took XYZal for 4 days for my Fall allergies. Once I stopped, I developed this maddening itching all over!!!! I went to my dermatologist who prescribed hydroxyzine capsules. The meds help somewhat....but also make me tired so I can only take at night!!! I have been suffering for FIVE weeks. Any idea when I can expect this reaction to end?? Or at least some tips on method of relief? PLEASE!!
