Xeloda for stomach cancer

Common Questions and Answers about Xeloda for stomach cancer

xeloda

Avatar m tn Xeloda is a very harsh drug. I was prescribed oral Xeloda together with infusions of oxiliplatin, but had to discontinue the Xeloda. My body smply could not tolerate the drug and while taking Xeloda I lost more than one pound per day, snd had relentless nausea and terrible pain in my hands and feet. After one three-week cycle my doctor discontinued the Xeloda. I was able to complete treatment with the oxiliplatin. This was in 2004 and I am cancer free today.
Avatar f tn Your question would probably be best answered by someone in the expert forum. I do know though, that my father was given Xeloda for his lung cancer. The doctor described it as a "smart drug" which attacked cancer cells.
Avatar f tn My husband was diagnosed with colon Cancer in Feb 2007. He took chemo drug Xeloda and had standard radiation. During a check up in January 2008, tumors were found in his lungs- one in each lung, sizes: 7mm and 13mm. He took chemo: Folfox, Avastin, Oxaliplatin, and Xeloda until April 2008. The April CT scan revealed that the tumors had grown slightly and that there were four more small nodules visable.
408448 tn?1286883821 Anyone ever use Xeloda pills? It is for colon cancer, but has been used in ovarian too. More for mucinous type. My cancer got pretty active on last treatment.
Avatar f tn However, there are certain new drugs, like bevacizumab or trastuzumab (these are antibodies which target specific molecules in the cancer cells responsible for growth) which, when added to the usual chemotherapy, enable them to overcome the tumor's resistance to the drugs. Adding Bevacizumab to Doxil can, in theory, allow your mother to use Doxil again.
Avatar f tn 5KGS AT 5FT HEIGHT, WE ARE TREATING THE METS WHICH HAS GONE TO HER LUNGS AND BONES AND LIVER WITH XELODA 1GRAM TWICE A DAY FOR 14 DAYS, AND THEY SCARED US WITH THE SIDE EFFECTS,BUT WE ARE ALSO GIVING HER HOMEOPATHY. WE ARE GIVING A GOOD NUTRITIONAL DIET ALONG WITH A PROTINEX SUPPLEMENT. ON 5TH OF FEB IS HER APPOINTMENT WITH THE ONCO. I HOPE XELODA HAS ARRESTED THE GROWTH OF CANCER CELLS. IF IT HAS CAN YOU TELL ME HOW MANY CYCLES CAN SHE TAKE WITHOUT IT DOING MUCH HARM.
Avatar f tn What I can say is that a lot of the current treatments used for advanced breast cancer do improve the survival of patients. If your mother responds well to the chemotherapy, this might prolong her life. Let's hope for the best.
Avatar n tn I was treated with Adriamycin/CYTOXIN Along with 33 rounds of radiation. I was also on tamoxifen for 10 mos. and have since had a local reoccurrence in the lymph node in my neck. The lymph node has been removed and biopsied and came back the same as before. Weakly positive ER 20%.,Her2 neg. PR neg.. i'm concerned that the tamoxifin did not work. My oncologists is deciding between xeloda , a chemo pill or arimidex. Any thoughts?
Avatar f tn My mom took Xeloda also as a maintenance drug for colorectal cancer. Typically diet and exercise do not affect CEA levels; however, inflammation can affect it. Sometimes CEA levels will rise if there is any type of inflammation. I know this is a scary time. Feel free to send me a message if you need to talk.
Avatar f tn Approx 1 year later she had a positive node/nodule removed. Within a month, the breast cancer started in her skin around the site of the node. She now has a red rash (skin mets) in approx half of her chest wall and is getting Chemo (Xeloda) and Herceptin. My question is, the skin is beginning to "harden" around the node removal surgery site. What does this mean? Any other comments on Skin mets would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn my platelets dropped in a period of about 3 weeks from 165 to 56, to me this seems to be very quick. I am on Xeloda and the onc is thinking this may be the cause. my question is, if the Xeloda, or bone marrow mets were responsible for the drop, wouldn't it be over a period of time and not just "whammo" down it goes. I was feeling really well until one day when I was off colour and the same day had a really bad nose bleed that seemed to last forever.
Avatar f tn s attending physician for proper management. The CT scan findings showed breast cancer with metastasis or spread of the cancer to the other organs mentioned. Factors such as her complete medical history, symptoms and results of other diagnostic tests are important considerations also. Take care and best regards.

I was dx in Feb 2002. I have previously been on different chemo.surgery, hormonal.. arimidex, aromosin, fasoldex . and several radiation treatments. I am undecided on doing any more chemo. 484033 tn?1208516117 The first is an acute onset numbness/tingling observed within hours of infusion, and which can last for 1-3 days. The second type of neuropathy is a chronic numbness which can last until 3 - 4 months of discontinuing Oxaliplatin. This chronic neuropathy is dose dependent, and usually occurs when the patient has accumulated a dose equivalent to around 10 - 14 sessions of chemotherapy (850 -1200 mg/m2).
1298675 tn?1286550183 When I asked my doctor how a tumor could grow when Herceptin and Chemo have been in my body for 5 months, shouldn’t it have stopped cancer from growing? His reply was maybe blood flow in that area was not good and hopefully it prevented it from spreading at least. Has anybody been here and done this with good reconstructive results?
Avatar m tn So if you have a cancer council please contact them they are so wonderful.the fatigue is the cancer and so is the odema as the heart has to work harder, the chemo will also add to the fatigue.
Avatar f tn Hello there. Sorry you didn't get a prompt answer to your question. Is there any update to your situation? Losing hair is traumatic. I fully understand this. I think a triaged approach to what you want from your treatment would help and am sure you discussed this with your doctor. First and foremost, that the treatment is effective and purging the cancer and putting you into remission. But retaining your hair can also be on the list of things you would like.
Avatar f tn My question is, can someone, with cancer as severe as hers is, (its in her lymphnodes and lower back as well, but, liver cancer is extensive and advanced, had cancer 1st 3 yrs ago, did a lumpectomy, and treatment for 8 months, then 4 months later it was back, then did a total mastectomy, treatment for (chemo) for 6 mo, was still on Herceptin when she became jauntice, tests revealed liver cancer) can someone live on the combination drugs (Tykerb, Xeloda) for years?

Avatar f tn I am taking Xeloda and hoping that will help shrink this huge tumor. I cannot take infusion chemotheraphy for this as my side effects were so extreme the first time that Xeloda seems to be my only choice. However, I mostly would like to know what sort of bandages I could use if it breaks through and what can be done to diminish the rancid odor. This discussion is related to ulcerating tumor.

Avatar f tn Anyway, your information that there are new drugs for treating metastatic breast cancer in trials is very encouraging (?). Oh for the brain I had before chemo fog! I have been dealing with this disease for over 10 years now and I am working towards living for another 30, no matter how much my husband cries. Thanks again and if you find any other info with regard to treating my type of cancer I would be very grateful to hear about it. Shielah.
Avatar f tn I also probably should have mentioned that we have a family history of stomach cancer and stomach ulcers, which is also what got me to thinking this. My diet, when I do manage to get it down, is good - no worries there. I do not smoke, and drink alcohol occasionally. My specialist told me about an endoscopy but he said he didn't think I needed one, so instead, told me to wait. Do you really think it's worthwhile going back?
Avatar m tn I am very disturbed that the discomfort is not going. I have made 4 trips to the doctor and he is not worried. Do I have stomach cancer ? what should I do now ?

60505 tn?1313946644 "I am a 46yo (white) female, I have been checking statistics for stomach cancer and I do see as a female and with my race the odds are very low. For the last 2 months I have been getting stomach "pain" more uncomfortable than pain, along with a feeling of "fullness" sometimes with a sense of nausea. No weight loss. I would say I have been getting indigestion and reflux for as long as I can remember.
Avatar f tn Six months is a too long time and you should have got evaluated by now. Stomach diseses, gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, stomach cancer all can lead to nausea and loss of appetite. Do you also have yellowish discoloration of your skin, eyes and urine? That could be due to gall bladder disease or hepatitis. Eat small healthy meals. You need to consult a primary care physician. He will further refer you to a gastroenterologist.
