Also about what you said before about eye pressure changing hourly, when l was first diagnosed with glaucoma my eye pressure was 33, and l started using xalatan , when l went back 3 months later it was down to around 20 then when l went back 9 months later it was still 20. Does that mean for sure xalatan has lower my eye pressure or could it be the readings were just taken at an hour of the day when my eye pressure was low and it could still be as high as 33 at other hours of the day.?
Over the last 3-4 weeks I have eye pain in one of the eyes, consistent dull ache. I visited my Optho and had eye dilated and checked and everything looks fine. He changed the drops to Travatan. But the pain is still present after using travatan for like 2 weeks. What else can be the cause? What else should I try to find out?
Most of these questions need an exam to determine. Chronic angle closure is diagnosed with gonioscopy and the treatment is a laser PI. BAK causes a problem if you are allergic to it. Xalatan can cause redness of your eyes. This should have been discussed with you by your doctor when you started it.

I was diagnosed with glaucoma four years ago and was immediately put on Xalatan once a day both eyes. Two years later was taken off Xalatan and put on Cosopt & Alphagan, twice a day, Lumigan once a day, both eyes. For the past two years my diopter went from -4.00 both eyes, to -9.50 left eye, -7.00 right eye, as of today, in steady progression. I can already tell I'm probably not seeing 20/40 presently and need stronger contacts.
I was prescribed xalatan to reduce the pressure. Around the same time I started noticing afterimages from objects with high contrast to their background (tv against white wall, my phone against desk) after staring less than 3 seconds. Further, when I read text online I notice faint horizontal bars beside the text (negative afterimage of the space between the lines). The most annoying aspect is that I sometimes see a negative afterimage of the people I am talking to.
I was misdiagnosed as having pressure in my eyes and was given Latanoprost eye drops which I used for 5 days and my intuition told me to stop it and get a second and third opinion which I did. I then found out I did not need to be on Latanoprost and my eye pressure was normal. I am only 45 and never had a problem with dark circles under my eyes which developed two days after I started using the eye drops.
thanks yes upon your earlier advice l told my sister to get checked and she was normal . l was taking azarga and xalatan but they only got my pressure down to 18 and 20 and he said l need to get to 15 because the nerves are getting worse so l need SLT, l dont think Vyzulta and Rhopressa are avialable here in AUstralia.
if l have a C/D ratio of .4 l think .4 still means early moderate glacuoma? is that correct.
I too have had high eye pressure from some 12 years ago when I was 40 years old... and have had laser surgery and been on timolol etc etc etc ... and I truly sympathise with your partner.
Having glaucoma at such a young age is very unusual ... its an old persons's disease or there may be a history in the family.
I personally believe it was a "septic" front tooth that triggerred my condition! ... After having it removed the eye pressures subsided! ...
If Glaucoma is caught very early, and the pressure (before treatment) is 18-19, is hoping for it to progress so slowly as to not lose visual function an unreasonable expectation?
The specifics are: 42 year old male, IOP (both eyes) 18-19 (treatment with Xalatan just begun). No field loss in left eye, very minor field loss in right eye.
I'm on generic cosopt and recently started xelpros.
Thank you Dr MJK, I tried eliminating Trusopt and using Xalatan only and in the AM rather than PM. Did this for 2 weeks. Odd thing about this rash is it is NOT constant and seems to respond to treatment but when treatment stops, rash returns. I am going to keep a journal beginning today to see if I am doing something to create this. Also going for a 3rd opinion (have never done this) to Alexei Moraczewski, MD who I located thru this the link provided by medhelp.
side effects because the drug is running through your body (rather than staying mostly in the eye). Xalatan, and the others that are similar lower IOP more than other drug classes...you need to ask what your IOP is and see that it stays in the healthy range, since glaucoma damage can be permanent. However...you may end up with eyelashes like Brooke Shields.
However, last visit hemorrhage on optic nerve found and added Alpgagan P to Lumigan, did not do a thing after 6 weeks, pressure 24 today. Dr. Stated Alphagan P was the best he could do with MEDS, and it did not do a thing so wants to do SLT which he says may not work or can make pressure worse. So if SLT does not work are my only options more riskier surgeries! Visual field gave been perfect for last 8 years, do not know if this hemorrhage has caused defects as yet!
m using Alphagan, Azopt (both 2x daily in both eyes) and Xalatan (both eyes at night). My pressure is now 14 in left eye and 21 in right eye. The retinal specialist had considered injections of steroids for the swelling, but thinks it may cause an exacerbation of the glaucoma, so is having me continue the Prednisolone and Nevanac until the bottles are empty.
