Avatar f tn But as another person mentioned on here, NO WHERE, or NO ONE states that it has a long-term affect on your memory to the point that I have cried and cried because I feel like I have early stages of Alzheimer's, and I am only 46. I think we (I) need to speak to a Personal Injury Attorney, because this meds need to be removed from the shelf. They are dangerous. I have forgotten how to say sentences, spell, I can't retain anything.
2192097 tn?1338993461 The shunt drained the cyst completely and collapsed the top of my brain into the area where the cyst used to reside. The collapse of the top of the brain into the cyst area caused bleeding that had to be drained during an operation 6/1. The doctor also closed the valve in the shunt to allow for the CSF to build back up in my brain. The shunt will be turned back on when the brain tissue is back in place and the cranial pressure is at a desired level.
Avatar f tn That's a big dose. I'm not sure of long term memory effects.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know the long term effects of abusing pain killers? I found out today that a friend of my husbands actually had seizures because of how long she was on vicodin. Just curious.
Avatar f tn I had major memory issues after surgery 10 years ago. It is now so much better but I worked at it. I read that doing puzzles like crosswords, word search etc help. I did them a lot! I used to have a photographic memory & that is long gone, but it has improved a ton. I used to be driving & had no clue where I was. I could not remember simple words for things. It was scary. Now I can remember most things. I do use a lot of post its tho to make sure I remember appts etc.
Avatar f tn The memory loss could just be due to concussion which at times persists for years and all of a sudden disappears and the person remembers everything. This does not have any long term complications. The person just needs support from family members and has to learn to live with the memory loss. Memory loss is also a common symptom of frontal lobe injury. Damage to the frontal lobe of the brain causes frontal encephalomalacia. Encephalomalacia is not an illness.

Avatar m tn hey guys, I was diagnosed with short term memory back in high school...teachers were made aware of this issue & I was given extra time to take tests/study. A few years have passed since then, but I find that I seem to be forgetting things quicker than I used to. For instance, I couldnt even remember the name of a movie I saw with my friend two days ago or our conversation....sometimes conversations hours after they have occurred. is there anythinng I can do to help improve my memory???
Avatar m tn Holy cr@p, I didn't realize THAT's where my short-term memory went! I probably shouldn't have thrown out all those tissues without first LOOKIN' in 'em!
Avatar f tn Hello, Sarah. My husband (age 57) had a hemorrhagic stroke last year in July. The stroke mainly struck his eyesight. He now has double vision. His short term memory was affected but it has gotten a lot better. It is still very early in your moms recovery. I would say the short term memory will get better, but, how much is anyones guess. My husbands doctors never once said anything about Alzheimers. Find out what areas of your moms brain was hit.
1263726 tn?1270165174 I don't think no one REALLY knows the long term effects of these drinks? I know one thing, they need to find out though. I think stronger regulations are in order. I am sure the long term effects cannot be good. At one time I drank them but I have not drank one in about 6 months. It is a shame these companies are making money marketing something that the long term effects are not really known.
Avatar f tn Keep in mind you are doing great and the end will be there, maybe even sooner then you think. It is indeed the Angel dust and maybe also the long term use of benzodiazepines what you are stil recovering from at the moment. Keep in mind you are doing a fantastic job and you will get there.
1339419 tn?1275966042 My short term memory is not 100% as it is, although it is not as bad as my long term memory, and when my blood pressure is really high ( 160/100+ ) I seem to have short term memory loss that increases with the increasing blood pressure numbers. Is this a direct side effect of high blood pressure, others with hypertension having suggested it effects their short term memory, or is it confined only to myself because of my memory problems?
Avatar n tn Johns Hopkins researchers who have been at the forefront of this field reviewed the evidence on short-term and long-term mental changes after bypass surgery. They found that short-term confusion, memory loss, and poorer problem solving and information processing are common after bypass surgery, but are usually temporary and reversible. Most people return to their pre-bypass level of function between 3 and 12 weeks after surgery.
Avatar m tn soo you will be able to have short term memory sooon you will have nothing else to concentrate on except the current affairs.... that groove will help you with your short term memory loss find the groove!. A clean slate is all you need.... You just got too much power on your mind....All those wonderful children are not trying to get to you like that anymore... they are trying a new way. a way where none of us worry anymore because we have a good enough idea of whats going on....
Avatar m tn Scientists have found that one fruit could hold the key to supercharging your memory. One little fruit could stop or even reverse years of cognitive decline. This fruit contains special substances that help your brain cells send and receive information faster. Much faster. Plus, according to the new research, it doesn't take long for your brain to start working lightening fast...just 12 weeks.
Avatar m tn How long term? 6 months to a year is not that long to be on it, but if you are thinking like 5 to 10 years is more longer term. It is all definitely possible if it is needed, some times a drug will lose its ability to work after a while so has to be changed with another but I think if it works now then that's great and don't worry about the future to much, what will happen will happen. Sorry don't know about the memory and side effects long term.
Avatar m tn I can only answer about gingko. I took this for short-term memory loss as part of a study. I worked beautifully for me, but I did not have your specific problems. I was suffering from severe long-term insomnia.
Avatar f tn I think most- if not all- of us with this have memory issues. Especially short term memory. And concentration. These are just the unfortunate symptoms of this condition. I have asked for meds to help- thinking ADHD med might help with concentration, but my NS said that it's not the same, and the ADHD meds won't work. Unless you have ADHD. Stay strong, and hopefully someone here can help you find a good doc. GL to you!!
