When to stop aggrenox before surgery

Common Questions and Answers about When to stop aggrenox before surgery

aggrenox

Avatar f tn Does anyone know what to take for an alternative to Aggrenox? I had a TIA almost 4 years ago and was put on Aggrenox, well, my husband will be losing his job in a week due to the economy which also means we will be losing our health insurance as well. I asked my doctor if he could take me off it and put me on something else and all he said was he would prefer I stayed on Aggrenox. I don't think we can afford it because it is $305 for a month supply!
Avatar f tn The only thing aggrenox does is allow the blood to get through areas where the passages are very small due to calcification etc., so keeping the blood thin is important. BUT the other option is chelation which will also clean out blockages. It's expensive but absolutely works. I worked in a chelation center for over a year and saw amazing results.
Avatar n tn Due to brain damage from surgery I have temporal lob seizures I was put on gabapentin and depression occurred. I am looking for something that would control the seizures without depression. Help with any idea! Thanks Would Dilatin help with this type of seizure?
1013028 tn?1250923267 However, in persons with the lupus anticoagulant, the risk of recurrence of both arterial and venous thrombotic episodes is very high. Some patients may need to be on long-term oral anticoagulation. Some may need to be on anticoagulation for the whole life. Plavix, similar to Aspirin, is an antiplatelet drug and is effective in treating arterial clots (in cases of stroke, heart attack, peripheral arterial disease). Plavix stops platelets aggregation or prevents them from sticking together.
Avatar f tn My question here is when I do decide to try to get off these meds, should I start the Thomas recipe and other things before I go off them, when I stop the meds, or when the withdrawals kick in? Naturally, I want to get through getting off them with as little discomfort as possible. (And I'm not sure whether I'll go cold turkey or taper. My pain clinic doctor has told me when the time comes I can get off, she'll work with me.
Avatar n tn Does anyone take vitamins/herbs with aggrenox and aspirin?
14511252 tn?1434923746 Hi I agree with the above poster in letting your Dr know and decide when you should stop prior to surgery...as not only smoking affects coughing but can cause the veins and other structures to constrict and make surgery more difficult..... I agree a pillow for the drive home was very helpful. Also a hat to protect the scar tissue from getting sunburned. PS- if you would like a Prayer thread posted...please post your surgery date on the thread for dates....I will bump it up.
469014 tn?1207171512 THEY ALSO TOLD HIM IF AND WHEN HE HAS A STROKE THAT IT WOULD NOT BE A MILD ONE. SO MY QUESTION IS TO YOU IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE HE CAN DO TO HELP HIS SITUATION. YES HE DOES SMOKE AND I KNOW THAT WOULD HELP IF HE STOPPED BUT I DONT THINK HE IS LISTENING. BUT HE DOES EAT RIGHT AND HIS CHOLESTEROL IS REALLY GOOD THE DR.SAID THAT WAS SHOCKING.
1098999 tn?1276787267 m currently taking amitryptyline and am wondering if I need to stop taking it before surgery? has anyone had to do this? And if so, how long before hand is it necessary? I had emailed Renee at the Wi Chiari Center and she says the nurses from the hospital would know this. I just don't want to go in the day of my surgery and then be told that I can't have it done yet due to a medication I am on.
Avatar f tn So I am a host at Chili's and my job involves moving chairs and tables and picking up a bunch of plates and being on my feet for hours. I just don't know when want to stop working. And when I should start working again, after I'm going to stay at home and take care of kids at my house. What do y'all think?
1823499 tn?1370090289 For the type of job u have I would think it may be too soon to go back if u feel as badly as u say....u have to look at urself , how u feel to determine when u can return to work, and it may not be ur old position, u may need to adjust to something else until u heal more.It can take up to 2 yrs to heal completely...some people take longer, some r quicker to heal....
725998 tn?1258048708 It is normal to feel a little apprehensive before your surgery. The other ladies are spot on. Reading to much can make you a nervous wreck. It sounds like your doctor is on the ball and he can't say for sure what the cyst is until they get a biopsy of the cyst. I suggest that you take some time for yourself before your surgery and do something that makes you feel good ( a manicure, pedicure, new haircut....). THis will help you relax and take your mind off of stuff for a bit.
Avatar f tn I was given a list of drugs to review and stop taking any that I may be on for 10 days before procedure. I am having trouble determining whether my migraine medication, Imitrex, is one them. Sumitriptan and naproxen are not on the list, but since this drug narrows blood vessels, I wonder if it's best not to take it before surgery.
14818559 tn?1436720920 I had to take 600mg of Advil (at once) to stop a 29 hour migraine. I was given a list of drugs to stop taking 14 days before surgery so there are no complications from bleeding, Advil is one of them on the list. Is this going to be a problem for the surgery? Will 3 Advil thin my blood that much after three days?
Avatar n tn you MUST contact your prescribing dr to get approval to stop this medication. Aggrenox, Plavix, and Aspirin must be discontinued for 7 days prior to injection and Ticlid 14 days prior to injection. Coumadin should be discontinued 3-4 days prior to injection and you will need to have blood work completed within 24 hours prior to procedure. drink 1-2 full cups water 60 minutes prior to injection. eat a LIGHT meal.
Avatar f tn Yesterday upon waking, I felt extremely weak, nauseated, and faint, vomited bile and had to lie on floor to keep from passing out. When felt stronger, I tried to take my BP but unable to obtain more than an error message for 2 hours and then 89/56 (used 2 machines with same unreadable results)... rested most of the morning as it slowly increased... when reached 125/70, felt okay to take my morning meds...
7792415 tn?1412272232 When your doctor tells you to. When I was pregnant with my son I had to stop my job as a CNA on an Alzheimer's unit in a nursing home at 38 weeks because my blood pressure was getting kinda high and my ankles were swollen enough to really worry my midwives but until then I was there 40 hours a week on my feet lifting and rolling and moving and feeding and changing totally dependent adults on a constant basis.
Avatar f tn I am on feet all day long and unforunatly I have to work all the way until a week before my dd then I have to go back 7 weeks after my dd. I'm sure I can find the strength to do and you will too.
