Common Questions and Answers about Aggrenox and surgery

aggrenox

Avatar f tn Does anyone know what to take for an alternative to Aggrenox? I had a TIA almost 4 years ago and was put on Aggrenox, well, my husband will be losing his job in a week due to the economy which also means we will be losing our health insurance as well. I asked my doctor if he could take me off it and put me on something else and all he said was he would prefer I stayed on Aggrenox. I don't think we can afford it because it is $305 for a month supply!
Avatar f tn My mother had a stroke about 5 months ago and we are considering opening the blood thinning aggrenox capsules and giving her half the dosages with applesause. She is already on the lowest dosage available. It's always a crapshoot to take the chance to alter medication as your doctor will tell you. The only thing aggrenox does is allow the blood to get through areas where the passages are very small due to calcification etc., so keeping the blood thin is important.
Avatar n tn I cut the Gabapentin to a lower dose and I think it was from another prescription Plavix and they changed it to Aggrenox I am doing fine now. Age is a bummer. I feel 30 but my body does not realize this! Smile.I appreciate your time and answer. Have a wonderful Summer.
1013028 tn?1250923267 Though the drugs of choice for a lupus anticoagulant are heparin and warfarin (coumadin), Plavix may be administered additionally to prevent arterial thrombotic episodes. Aggrenox has the same action as Coumadin. The choice of drug and management plan differs with different doctors and the risk factors of the patient. Please discuss the management plan with your doctor. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!

469014 tn?1207171512 Why can't a cardiac doctor (intervential cardiologist) do angioplasty to clear the half blocked arteries and possibly clear the totally blocked artery. That doesn't require surgery, but your post doesn't indicate a reason why your father is a high risk for surgery?

Avatar m tn He tried Plavix(was allergic) and Aggrenox which increased the headache frequency. We are just at a loss with his current neurologist and feel he is at a loss of what to do. We are seeing a new neurologist on Thursday with the hopes of finding something that will help. As far as the sleep apnea, I will hopefully get him convinced to try something new as I realize the CPAP is of great importance. Just looking for any kind of suggestions of what to try.
Avatar n tn In June '08 I was sitting watching TV when my left side from my head down to my leg became stiff and numb. Went to the ER and checked by 5 neuronogists, had scans, MRI & other tests. Their consensus was a brain event in the rt. thalemus. For 2 & 1/2 yrs I was living with a 5 out of 10 sensation but last Dec. '10 as I was having dinner, the sensation became worse like an 8 out of 10 and I'm having increased trouble moving my whole left side.
Avatar n tn you MUST contact your prescribing dr to get approval to stop this medication. Aggrenox, Plavix, and Aspirin must be discontinued for 7 days prior to injection and Ticlid 14 days prior to injection. Coumadin should be discontinued 3-4 days prior to injection and you will need to have blood work completed within 24 hours prior to procedure. drink 1-2 full cups water 60 minutes prior to injection. eat a LIGHT meal.
Avatar f tn About 1-1/2 months ago he started experiencing mild itching on his legs and has now become chronic all over his body. Most of his meds have rash and itching side effects. Aggrenox was just changed to Plavix, but the itching has not stopped. 325mg of aspirin is also a future consideration as a blood thinner. He was given Ativan 0.5mg two days ago to stop the itching. The first night he practically scratched two wholes in his paralyzed arm.

490443 tn?1236648256 She talked to the anesthesiologist and so did I before the surgery. He suctioned my sinuses while I was out of it and I felt great after. He didn't want me coughing or sneezing for a few days and it worked great. Saline nasal mists work well too. FINGERS AND TOES CROSSED FOR MONDAY!
Avatar f tn Just diagnosed two months ago with pvc's and they are basically non-stop. Have been referred to a heart specialist but haven't been able to get the appt. yet. I was planning to have sinus recostructive surgery on my nose in April, can someone with pvc's still have surgery and will doctors in a private clinic perform a procdure like this knowing I have been experiencing this problem. Thanks.
255163 tn?1376869746 t really understand the doc not wanting to do the surgery. I had bypass surgery and got 2 stents installed while on Plavix with no problems at all. I think the risk is controlling the bleeding, but it must not really be that big a problem. Gall bladder removal is not the big deal it used to be. One lady I know had it done and just spent one night in the shop--almost like an outpatient surgery--and she was on Plavix. I think they had her not take it just for a day or two before the surgery.
