What is the medication rozerem used for

Common Questions and Answers about What is the medication rozerem used for

rozerem

Avatar f tn Rozerem works by stimulating melatonin receptors in the body. It is non addictive and the only medication that is shown to be safe to use for six months of insomnia where as all of the other ones are generally expected to be used short term. Do you have difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep after falling asleep or both? The hope is if you are treating your anxiety disorder, that your insomnia will get better.
603015 tn?1329862973 Its important to understand that you will as all of us here always need medication. However, medication can be adjusted. The Seroquel is helping you but Ambien is meant for short term use only and otherwise can be addictive. I would speak to your psychiatrist about having that changed as it doesn't seem to working regardless.
Avatar m tn One good option you could ask your psychiatrist about is the medication Rozerem which works to adjust the sleep cycle and is safe and non addictive. There are other options as well but that's one worth asking about. Also it might be a simple matter of timing. If a medication keeps you awake at night you could ask your psychiatrist if you could take it earlier in the day and see if that helps. Discuss all this with them and see what they say.
741315 tn?1232458427 Xanax is generally used short term as an anti-anxiety medication. Klonopin or another medication in the same category is safer used long term. Ambien is not meant for everyday use as a sleeping aide as it can be addictive. Lunesta or Rozerem are two better choices. Rozerem works in the same manner as Melatonin and actually adjusts the sleep cycle. Those are some ideas to speak to your psychiatrist about.
Avatar m tn t induce at night but feel sleepy at day time thus disturbing my working days.I want to start with Rozerem for inducing sleep.I wish to take this medication for a month or two and discontinue and get my sleep naturally as usual. Can the sleep disorder rebound after discontinuation? I've also been taking sertraline since many years, could these two drugs interact,if yes what are the effects?
Avatar f tn Currently taking clonazepam daily for anxiety. What other meds can I discuss with my doctor which are indicated for insomnia. Ambien did absoutley nothing for me. Benadryl can sometimes have the opposite effect on me and have me tossing and turning when I take more than 50 mg.'s. Since I am already taking a benzodiazepine I don't want to take another.
Avatar n tn yeah rozerem did nothing for me .I have found the best thing to do is not take anything let it run it course and get back on your normal sleep pattern.
Avatar f tn t really what we worry about. What we worry about is the side effects and difficulty quitting a medication that alters the way the body works naturally. As this seems to be a newer drug, there probably isn't a lot of info yet on how people do with it long-term. Remember that antidepressants are not controlled substances but have pretty much the same difficulties when you try to stop taking them, depending on the person.
Avatar m tn Way back you posted about trazadone as being a possible cause of tardives dyskinesia. I have taken it for 3 yrs.as a sleep aid for fibromyalgia & anxiety & it has helped a lot. I can't take Ambien or z-drugs. They wire me & work the opposite just as benadryl does for me, but I am terrified of getting TD or dystonia from the trazadone. How great is the risk? My Dr. told me that in 38 yrs. she has never seen anyone get TD from it & that 50 mg.
Avatar m tn It appears to be similar in efficacy and like Ambien is meant for short term use only. Unless you've tried it Rozerem is one alternative that unlike Ambien or the medication you mentioned or Lunesta does not have a potential for a person to build up a tolerance to it and is an FDA approved medication that works like melatonin to adjust the sleep cycle. You could ask your psychiatrist about that.
Avatar m tn Same here, I tried it once before and it worked great except for a buzz in the morning for an hour
Avatar f tn Lunesta and Rozerem are known sleep aides that are safe and effective and can be taken every day especially Rozerem which is derived from Melatonin and helps regulate the sleep cycle. As for anti-psychotic use they are finding that Zofran is effective for psychosis from Parkinsons' and it will not worsen Parkinsons's or create tardive dyskinesia but is actually helpful on it in studies.
Avatar f tn No a doctor can prescribe a medication for any usage off label. They don't have to be approved. There are often drug trials just to expand a prescription's ability to be patented and not have competition from generics. That's why Wellbutrin was remarketed as Zyban for smoking cessation so the patent would extend another 7 years. The initial research is funded by the government and when a medication is "viable" then the pharmaceutical companies are handed the result.
Avatar n tn I did finally get my own sleep adjusted as mood stabilizers were. However, Rozerem being clinically related to melatonin is the safer of the two choices as it works in the same manner but is FDA approved. It is non addictive because it is not related to a benzo (which Lunesta is) but for me it did appear to wear off over time. That much is true. I had it prescribed to take "as needed" but don't have to anymore.
Avatar n tn Without the ability to examine and obtain a history, I can not tell you what the exact cause of the symptoms is. However I will try to provide you with some useful information. Patients on levodopa can have various symptoms associated with the wearing off of the medication (such as before the next dose), at the peak of the medication, or in-between.
564491 tn?1320360393 I have sleep apnea, insomnia, Diabetes Type II, hypertension, chronic headaches/migraines, hypothroidism, dysthymia, genralized anxiety disorder, elevated cholesterol (all controlled with medication). I take Rozerem for the insomnia. Works a bit. I use a C-PAP machine for the sleep apnea, but it doesn't seem to help my migraines and chronic headaches as I was hoping it would do. I am at the end of my rope, as it seems nothing and noone can help me.
Avatar f tn When you can't sleep from the withdrawals, I've been told that Trazadone is a good choice for sleep because it isn't a controlled substance, etc. What is the story with this medication?
Avatar f tn One medication you might want to ask your psychiatrist about is Rozerem which is an FDA approved sleep aide that works like melatonin to adjust the sleep cycle and is safe and non addictive.
Avatar f tn Our daughter has been on concerta 36mg now for 3months, it has made a difference, she is talking better, obviously the medication is helping her thinking, DOWN is she can't get to sleep at night, did try a lower dose of Concerta first but didn't help much, the 36mg dose is what she needs, we give her melatonin to help her sleep at night, (natural medication for sleep), the melatonin helps but still hard for her to get off to sleep.
Avatar f tn Hello! Can I take Belsomra and Rozerem together if the effect of one drug is not enough?
Avatar f tn I have advanced tardive dyskinesia. Ativan can't cause it. In fact Klonopin which is related is one medication I take to treat it. Vistaril and Tradazone can cause tardive dyskinesia. Any medication that causes it can continue to worsen it while masking it. The first step is to see a neurologist who is a movement disorders specialist. Then have your psychiatrist prescribe you medications that can't cause it (a sleep aide that won't cause it for example is Rozerem).
1021912 tn?1251693068 One new option as regards sleep aides that is not addictive is the FDA approved medication Rozerem that works like melatonin to adjust the sleep cycle. You could ask about that.
1673169 tn?1316541930 Yes for me it took some time to work although each person responds differently to each medication or treatment but it might be worthwhile to ask your psychiatrist about Rozerem which is an FDA approved medication that works exactly like melatonin to adjust the sleep cycle and is safe and non addictive. Also it has an exact dose and quantity unlike any natural remedy so if they considered it a possibility could find out what dose would work right for you.
Avatar m tn Have you tried melatonin? About the safest supplement around, and one of the most researched pharmaceutical products out there. Very small doses work best for sleep, about .5mg or 1mg. I'd rather take the real thing than a chemical variant such as Rozerem, but that's just me. They're both pharmaceutical products, and melatonin is a lot cheaper and has been used a lot longer.
Avatar n tn She has a circadian rhythm disorder & is treated quite effectively with Blue Light Therapy. The only time we use the Rozerem is when it is impossible/ non- practical to use her light therapy. I'm trying to get back in touch with the Pediatric sleep specialist to re-check the connection & possibilites of the SE of the Rozerem...
Avatar n tn Effexor would not be a standard medication for sleep but is a typically used anti-depressent. If your psychiatrist diagnosed you with depression and you want to discuss options google "Depression Central" which is a good resource list. You could discuss other options with your psychiatrist. That site and some others linked up here will give you clinically accurate advice from a consumer perspective to educate yourself and bring to your psychiatrist.
