What is humulin 70 30 insulin

Common Questions and Answers about What is humulin 70 30 insulin

humulin

Avatar n tn If your blood sugar is high enough to need insulin, then you do need insulin. But there are other types of insulin available. Maybe you are reacting to Humulin N.
Avatar f tn A primary issue is whether or not Humalin 70/30 is appropriate. Your condition might be treated with an alternative, such as Lantus plus Metformin, or another oral drug. Because abnormal blood sugar levels induced by injectable insulin can cause you to have a fatal automobile accident and injure or endanger others, it is not a drug that should be administered except under a physician's supervision - at least until the situation is well in hand.
Avatar m tn I dont know how to help with a mix insulin 70/30 is 70% slow insulin with 30% fast insulin mixed in. so every time you take an injection you get both insulins weather or not you need both. the slow insulin lasts 12 hours the fast lasts 4 to 6 hours. I use long 24 hour insulin with a rapid insulin last 4 hours. the long insulin is for my fating and the rapid is for high BG and food. easy to adjust and easy to get good numbers.
2094297 tn?1345389093 Basal Bolus approach (separate fast and long acting insulin) is going to give you better control that the 70/30. Do you have a carb-insulin ratio. You need to dose fast acting insulin appropriately to cover carbs/protein at each meal. other good books are Using Insulin - By John Walsh and Think Like a Pancreas. Don't worry how much insulin you need to take. Just take what you need to keep your blood sugars more stable.
Avatar f tn If you have Humilin R on hand I question how old it is. If more than 30 days it is probably expired anyway. I also question having this Insulin as it has been largely discontinued for use as better insulins are now available. But the short answer is Novolog and Humlin R do not act in the same manner so substiuting can be very tricky and is probably not recommended. Use of the wrong Insulin at the wrong time can be DEADLY. This is not something to be played with.
Avatar n tn Most endocrinologists will put a diabetic patient who uses insulin on a sliding scale of insulin, depending on what the blood glucose is when you test before a meal. The ideal is of course for glucose levels to be in the "normal" before meal range of between something like 70-126 (different doctors use slightly different numbers, but this is pretty typical). But we can't always have the ideal numbers -- if we DID, we wouldn't be diabetic!
231441 tn?1333892766 Yes, preexisting I guess, but it never showed up before - probably was well managed by my diet and exercise). I was on insulin (humulin 70/30) by 10 weeks - started on six units in morning and 4 in the evening and went up to 10 in the evening and 4 in the morning in the first few weeks of adjusting. Anyway, I was able to keep levels stable and within target (<95 fasting, <120 2 hrs post eating) up until about 2 weeks ago. Am now 31 weeks.
Avatar m tn Sorry this is such a late response, but no, Humilin R (regular insulin) is not a substitue for Novolog, which is a fast acting insulin. However, her insulin supply is still good for up to 30 days after taking it out of refrigeration. Hope she made it there OK and you had a nice visit.
Avatar m tn Zoe - I think Windchimes meant humulin insulin not huminsulin. Humulin is considered an intermediate acting insulin as its duration is 24 hours, but this can vary per individual. LANTUS, on the other hand, is considered long lasting as its duration is up to 36 hours. Windchimes - You kept your Humulin dose a secret so one can only assume you're at max and why your doctor is considering moving to the pump. This link will give an inside on pumps http://tinyurl.com/lvs7o6 .
Avatar n tn m not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. Insulin glargine is also known as Lantus. Lantus, just like all insulins, can stimulate the body into causing fat production, so it is possible to gain weight on Lantus.
Avatar f tn You're a good friend to be concerned about your friends well being. If "N" is Humulin N, there is no "standard" Humulin N dose that will work for all people or even for the same person in all situations. This applies to other insulin types too. If your friends at home test results show low glucose levels "several times per week" it is time to have his/her insulin dosages re-evaluated by their physician.
Avatar f tn s dose when needed, and do a curve after 5 days of the same dose. That is how you see what is happening and how the dog is metabolizing insulin. 3. A normal starting dose is 1/4 of the body weight, so 5 or 5 1/2 units twice/day would have been the normal starting dose for him. 3 units is not enough. 4. If your dog is subject to vomiting, it's a good idea to wait until 30 min after eating to make sure he keeps the food down.
Avatar f tn I am a diabetic on insulin I am 11wks today I was scared at first but what get me through is knowing this is what I have to do for my little one and myself that is what get me through it good luck
Avatar f tn A. Taking a rapider insulin (Humulin Regular, if that is what you are taking, is much slower than Humalog -- ask you doctor if switching is in order) B. Taking the mealtime insulin earlier before eating C. Warming the injection site by massaging it, running it under warm water, or exercising the underlying muscle D. Choosing foods that are slow to digest (low glycemic index foods) E. Adding something acidic, such as vinegar, to your meals F.
Avatar n tn My experience has been that Lantus is rarely a problem as far as hypoglycemia is concerned, so I doubt that it alone is the problem.
Avatar n tn I HAVE NOTICED THAT WHEN I TAKE THE LANTUS INSULIN PRESCRIBED DOSAGE(S) THAT APPROXIMATELY 15-30 MINUTES LATER I START TO SWEAT PROFUSELY. IS THIS A NORMAL REACTION TO THE LANTUS INSULIN? I VOICED MY CONCERNS TO MY DOCTOR AND HE HAD NO COMMENT. I AM ALSO TAKING SEVERAL DOSES OF HUMULIN R AND HAVE GAINED WEIGHT SINCE I STARTED TAKING THE LANTUS. PLEASE ADVISE. THANK YOU.
Avatar m tn I have had diabetes for 30 years.I had much better control when I was using humuln n and humulin r . I am now taking lantus and novolog .I have had to increase my dosages and am still having a hard time getting control of my blood sugars. My aic is 7.8 this quarter vs 8. last quarter. should I go back to using the older drugs that gave me better control?
Avatar n tn I have type 1 diabetes and am on Lantus. I was wondering though what the difference between 70/30 and Lantus is. My understanding is that they are both long lasting insulins, but I don't know much else. Does anyone know?
Avatar f tn what are the food that has high carb? do rice and bread contain large portion of carbs? my doctor never told me about that so I have been living that way for almost 10 years...it s not until now I discovered this "carb counting" thingy...

Avatar f tn i was treated with himulin 30/70 insulin for a years and usually my fasting sugar is high (200-400) and now my new doctor give me lantus and apidra insulin instead of himulin insulin and now my fasting sugar reaches to 215 not exceeded. Are lantus and apidra combatable for me?? and what are the side effects of them??????????
Avatar n tn Lantus, Humalog, and Novolog ALL require prescrptions because 1) they have not been out on the market as long as the conventional porcine/bovine insulins (Humulin N, R, L, 50/50, 70/30, etc), 2) The onset of actions for Humalog, Novolog, and Lantus are quite fast (anywhere between 5 to 15 minutes), and although these insulins generally do NOT cause hypoglycemia episodes (low blood sugar), if patients do not know how to use them properly, they can lapse into a hypoglycemia episode and this can
