Hello I am new to novolin My Dr has me on 15 units twice a day after being on lantus for 1 year and it just did not work at all for me under 29 units was not enough and over 20 units bottomed my sugar out
My question is and this also did this when i was on lantus is it normal after injecting yourself with insulin that my blood sugar spikes up I am talking it can be 150 and after the injection it will jump up to 300 with in 3 hours is this normal or is it just me I know I am not making sense
It is provides a fairly constant basal insulin all day long. 70/30 mix has both, fast acting insulin to cover a meal, and long acting to provide that basal between meals.

To me, the basic difference is variability and flexibility. With Lantus, you know exactly what you are dosing, and you also dose exactly the amount of fast acting you need.
After giving birth, the gestational diabetes took a respite for 6 months and then my sugars shot up and I lost 30 pounds hoping to avoid insulin but I ended up on insulin anyway. I kept off those 30 pounds and was at an average weight until I started Lantus and now I gained back all that weight.

I use humulin n as a long acting insulin , generally about 45 units a day , and humulog to keep my sugars down , lately I have been checking my sugars every half hour to try and get a grip on them , my pharmasist told me that humulog lasts up to 2 hours , I have checked my sugars after injecting it , and it generally takes 1/2 an hour to come down 6 points ( 13 to 7 )

I have NO idea how to make a mix insulin work. Every time you take a shot you get 30% R insulin and 70% NPH Or both a fast insulin and a slow insulin mixed together.
most people find a true basal/bolus insulin regeame is easy and provides better control for you only take the type of insulin you need to do the job. basal for 24 hour background insulin and a rapid (bolus) for eating and to bring down high BG.

I have been on Lantus for over two years having switched from Humulin N at bedtime. Not only have I gained 30 pounds, I started having mood swings and irritability since starting Lantus and lately now in the past month I had two severe lows right after taking the Lantus (within 30 minutes of taking my shot).
I am not a doctor, but my understanding of Type I is that insulin is the only medication that will work since our bodies are not producing any insulin. I think it is unusual for a Type I Diabetic to be taken off insulin and to be able to remain in control with diet and exercise alone. But, then again, diabetes does affect each person differently. I would encourage you to always discuss any changes in your insulin with an endocrinologist who specializes in diabetes.
The currently accepted treatment of choice is a basal (long-acting) insulin like Lantus once or twice a day and a bolus or rapid acting insulin before meals. A fixed dose of bolus like you describe is not as good as developing a carb ratio. You need to take the correct insulin dose each meal to cover what you eat (unless you want to eat the same thing every meal!).
Anyone out there had to go on insulin in pregnancy? This is my first baby since getting diabetes 4 yrs ago but scared of needles. Had miscarriage in feb just praying this don't happen again.
I have had diabetes for 30 years.I had much better control when I was using humuln n and humulin r . I am now taking lantus and novolog .I have had to increase my dosages and am still having a hard time getting control of my blood sugars. My aic is 7.8 this quarter vs 8. last quarter. should I go back to using the older drugs that gave me better control?
