Avatar n tn If your blood sugar is high enough to need insulin, then you do need insulin. But there are other types of insulin available. Maybe you are reacting to Humulin N.
Avatar m tn How frequent I can take insulin Humulin 70/30. I am taking 25 unit before each meal some just before meal or sometime after meal. Please advice how much I can take in a day ? How much min duration between 2 intakes ?
2094297 tn?1345389093 Cannot seem to control blood sugars, recently finished hep c tx succesfully, although still have cirrohsis but I am doing massive amounts of insulin novilin 70/30 injections (about 135 units daily) and feel real crappy as I seem to rollercoaster all over the place, any help out there. p.s. tried lantus and it worked for awhile, then did the rapid at all meals, tried both at same time, and just swithced to the 70/30 about a week or so ago.
Avatar m tn THIS HAPPENED WHEN I FIRST STARTED USING NOVOLOG MIX 70/30 FLEXPEN [APRIL 2009] NORDISK SUGGESTED THAT EITHER THE SAMPLE PEN(S) WERE BAD OR THEY WERE NOT STORED PROPERLY [REFRIGERATED} AT THE DOCS OFFICE !! STOPPED USING SAMPLES UNTIL MY ORDER CAME IN .. PROBLEM STILL OCCURS!!
Avatar n tn com Novolog Flexpen SubQ Storage It is best to refrigerate the unopened vial/cartridges/prefilled syringes between 36-46 degrees F (2-8 degrees C). Unopened insulin may also be stored at room temperature below 86 degrees F (30 degrees C), but in that case it must be discarded after 28 days. Once opened, this medication may be stored in the refrigerator or at room temperature below 86 degrees F (30 degrees C). Discard 28 days after opening. Do not freeze.
Avatar f tn soluble insulin starts working within 30 to 60 minutes and lasts six to eight hours. Insulin analogues start working within 15 minutes and last for up to five hours. Examples are insulin aspart, insulin lispro and insulin glulisine. * Intermediate-acting insulin: isophane insulin starts working after one to two hours and lasts 10 to 14 hours. Examples are Humulin I and Insulatard. * Long-acting insulin: these start working after one to two hours and last for up to 24 hours.
Avatar n tn Some people find that one works more effectively than the other, so which is used is really up to the patient. Humulin, more commonly called Humulin NPH, and even more commonly called just NPH, is a long acting insulin. It is absorbed more slowly, and it's effects last longer, about 12 hours. Usually NPH is used in combination with one of the fast acting insulins. An alternative long acting insulin would be Lantus.
Avatar n tn I was on a different type of insulin 30/70 and it just did not work for me and that was a pen now I am back on the needle and I do not like it and never will I take the Lantus with the needle.
231441 tn?1333892766 Yes, preexisting I guess, but it never showed up before - probably was well managed by my diet and exercise). I was on insulin (humulin 70/30) by 10 weeks - started on six units in morning and 4 in the evening and went up to 10 in the evening and 4 in the morning in the first few weeks of adjusting. Anyway, I was able to keep levels stable and within target (<95 fasting, <120 2 hrs post eating) up until about 2 weeks ago. Am now 31 weeks.
Avatar m tn Sorry this is such a late response, but no, Humilin R (regular insulin) is not a substitue for Novolog, which is a fast acting insulin. However, her insulin supply is still good for up to 30 days after taking it out of refrigeration. Hope she made it there OK and you had a nice visit.
Avatar n tn After giving birth, the gestational diabetes took a respite for 6 months and then my sugars shot up and I lost 30 pounds hoping to avoid insulin but I ended up on insulin anyway. I kept off those 30 pounds and was at an average weight until I started Lantus and now I gained back all that weight. While doctors will tell you it's not the insulin as they don't want you to stop taking it, I do believe some insulins (like any medication) have side effects.
Avatar m tn Zoe - I think Windchimes meant humulin insulin not huminsulin. Humulin is considered an intermediate acting insulin as its duration is 24 hours, but this can vary per individual. LANTUS, on the other hand, is considered long lasting as its duration is up to 36 hours. Windchimes - You kept your Humulin dose a secret so one can only assume you're at max and why your doctor is considering moving to the pump. This link will give an inside on pumps http://tinyurl.com/lvs7o6 .
Avatar f tn You're a good friend to be concerned about your friends well being. If "N" is Humulin N, there is no "standard" Humulin N dose that will work for all people or even for the same person in all situations. This applies to other insulin types too. If your friends at home test results show low glucose levels "several times per week" it is time to have his/her insulin dosages re-evaluated by their physician.
Avatar m tn Just stop taking the pills on day and the next day start injection with a pen? And does one injection from a pen = 500 mg? or how does one calculate the dosage? I am a newbie at this and a bit anxjous about switching over.
Avatar n tn Depends on how you use your insullin. My doctor gave me an insulin to carbohydrate ratio to use. I use 1 unit of insulin to every 12 grams of carbs I eat. The less carbs I eat, the less insulin I use. I have a very physical job for four hours a day and I don't even need my Humalog when I eat lunch. My pen generally lasts me the whole month. My Humalog is only good for 28 - 30 days.
Avatar f tn Well, I recently changed drs and the new dr put me on Novolog pen 70/30-I am at 18 units ever 12 hours and it is not lowering blood sugar readings at all. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is the Novolog pen comparable with the NPH and Reg regamen? I was doing well with the Novolin and I am confused as to why I was swithched. I asked my dr about it and he said that the Novolin was fast acting and the Novolg was slower and was supposed to be better control. I just dont see it.
Avatar f tn Hello I am new to novolin My Dr has me on 15 units twice a day after being on lantus for 1 year and it just did not work at all for me under 29 units was not enough and over 20 units bottomed my sugar out My question is and this also did this when i was on lantus is it normal after injecting yourself with insulin that my blood sugar spikes up I am talking it can be 150 and after the injection it will jump up to 300 with in 3 hours is this normal or is it just me I know I am not making sense
Avatar f tn They carry it under the Relion name, but it is the same as Humulin N, which is another nph insulin, similar to novolin. Most dogs do well on either Novolin N or Humulin N. Personally, I found Humulin N to work better for my dog. The cost of a bottle of insulin at WalMart is about $25 compared to $50 for the same thing at a regular retail pharmacy. 7. There are many diets you can use. You are not limited to w/d, which the vets seem to push!
Avatar n tn Hello, I have been on Lantus for over two years having switched from Humulin N at bedtime. Not only have I gained 30 pounds, I started having mood swings and irritability since starting Lantus and lately now in the past month I had two severe lows right after taking the Lantus (within 30 minutes of taking my shot).
Avatar n tn I plan on asking my endo for another pen so I can keep some insulin in the work fridge and the pen in my desk. thanks for everyone's concern.
Avatar f tn Anyone out there had to go on insulin in pregnancy? This is my first baby since getting diabetes 4 yrs ago but scared of needles. Had miscarriage in feb just praying this don't happen again.
Avatar f tn A. Taking a rapider insulin (Humulin Regular, if that is what you are taking, is much slower than Humalog -- ask you doctor if switching is in order) B. Taking the mealtime insulin earlier before eating C. Warming the injection site by massaging it, running it under warm water, or exercising the underlying muscle D. Choosing foods that are slow to digest (low glycemic index foods) E. Adding something acidic, such as vinegar, to your meals F.
Avatar n tn My son uses the 70/30 insulin pen twice a day - before eating breakfast and before his evening meal. He usually injects and then eats straight away - is this OK? I was under the impression that it is best to wait a while. Any thoughts?
Avatar m tn I have had diabetes for 30 years.I had much better control when I was using humuln n and humulin r . I am now taking lantus and novolog .I have had to increase my dosages and am still having a hard time getting control of my blood sugars. My aic is 7.8 this quarter vs 8. last quarter. should I go back to using the older drugs that gave me better control?
Avatar f tn Inside the pen, where the insulin is contained I found a silver object. I did not inject myself, but would like to know who I could talk to about product liability and quality control. I still have the container even though the pharmacy company wants it back.
