Common Questions and Answers about What is fenofibrate used for

tricor

Avatar m tn Fenofibrate is mainly used to reduce cholesterol levels in people at risk of cardiovascular disease. If your mother stops taking the medication, her cholesterol levels will probably rise again which in turn increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. There is a lot discussion going on about the effectiveness of cholesterol lowering medication but large tests have shown the benefit of it and most cardiologists have the same opinion.
315318 tn?1353251800 The only new medicines I started last week were the new blood thinner effient and Fenofibrate to control triglycerides. I used to take fenofibrate eight years ago when my my doctor changed that to statins. I don't recall the muscle aches during my first stint with fenofibrates. As for Efient. Well, it is so new that i feel i am a guinea pig for testing the drug. But blood thinners like Effient or Plavix are must when you get a new stent.
Avatar n tn The pain in the morning makes me feel like I am 100 and my body is betraying me! This is what I noticed that changed. I initially started off on the brand name fenofibrate, Tricor - had no problems. Then they added Crestor(name brand) because that was the only people that made it. A couple years ago, they changed the Tricor to generic, but I was taking name brand Crestor. No problems when taking co-q10 with it.
315318 tn?1353251800 My second question is, in the absence of fenofibrates what other alternative medicines can be taken ? Fish oil like Lovaza is out because that acts as a mild blood thinner. I am prone to serious nose bleeding because of Efient and aspirin.
Avatar n tn Fenofibrate If cholelithiasis is suspected in a patient receiving ZETIA and fenofibrate, gallbladder studies are indicated and alternative lipid-lowering therapy should be considered [see ADVERSE REACTIONS and the product labeling for fenofibrate]. Choleithiasis is Gallstones in the gallbladder. Ask about it. Use this site or the FDAs website to look up the drug interactions and precautions when taking the two drugs together, and if you Dr is not hearing it, then go to another DR.
315318 tn?1353251800 Your question raised my curiosity and after a short research, my understanding is that it is not the fenofibrate but the rosuvastatin (Crestor) the one that can give you this effect. See this: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20507274 Also it seems that insulin sensitivity gets better as the endothelial functions gets better and this is one of the effects of the statins, see this: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.

He was advised a medicine but did not take as doc said not very necessary. His wt was recorded 71kg.
Avatar f tn this is known as off labeling...where a drug is intended for one purpose but used for another....in this case insomnia......
Avatar n tn You can google the warnings and side effects of that one. I also take Tricor for my hyperlipidemia. But that is a fenofibrate, not a statin. Have you ever tried the grandfather of statins, Lipitor? Talk to your doctor and get the straight answers.
Avatar n tn Your numbers are high, but you need to look at the breakdown. First off, your TGL's should be under 150. Not hard, just cut out the empty carbs like breads, sugars, pastas etc. Also, drinking will elevate your TGL's so don't over do it. You could start on a Fenofibrate like Tricor to lower your TGL's it works well. A statin will not really do that much.
Avatar m tn Hi I was recently prescribed Fenofibrate to help reduce my high cholesterol levels etc... after a blood test. I have been doing some digging around regarding the drug and it says I should not be taking it if one has Hep B. I haven't found what the reasons are so I was wondering if someone could elaborate why one should not be taking it if one has Hep B. Thanks so much for your help.
Avatar m tn Doctor has now advised for Thyronorm 100mcg daily one in the morning and Tab. Modlip-F (Atrovastin and fenofibrate tablet) one at night. I had undergone tests again in September after using the above tablets for 2 monts. My current readings are as follows: T3 = 0.95, T4 = 10.5, TSH = 3.10. And all my chlesterol levels are perfectly well within the limits. Now my doctor has advised to continue with Thyronorm 100mcg daily and Modlip-F on alternative days.
Avatar f tn I had diarrhea, when wiping I saw what I usually do, completely normal. But once I stood up to flush, my stool was completely normal still, (as in diarrhea normal) but there was a dark reddish color in the entirety of the water, I did have something with quite a bit of barbeque sauce today, which I normally don't have that much with anything, it's a redd-ish brown color, Could that be it? Meds I am currently on are levothyroxine and fenofibrate.
Avatar m tn s are easy to lower, cut back on all sugars, breads, pastas and alcohol, that usually is enough. If not, you can try a Fenofibrate which is a very effective drug.
Avatar n tn I've never heard of high serum cholesterol having any affect on a surgical procedure or the outcome. Having said that, if he's not on a statin they could put him on one before the surgery, if for no other reason then for it's anti-inflammatory properties. Either way, he needs to get the number down. To lower TGL's, cut out all empty carbs like breads, pastas and sugar and if he is a drinker, he needs to stop as alcohol metabolizes as sugar and has a huge impact on TGL's.
