tricor

Avatar n tn The pain in the morning makes me feel like I am 100 and my body is betraying me! This is what I noticed that changed. I initially started off on the brand name fenofibrate, Tricor - had no problems. Then they added Crestor(name brand) because that was the only people that made it. A couple years ago, they changed the Tricor to generic, but I was taking name brand Crestor. No problems when taking co-q10 with it.
315318 tn?1353251800 My second question is, in the absence of fenofibrates what other alternative medicines can be taken ? Fish oil like Lovaza is out because that acts as a mild blood thinner. I am prone to serious nose bleeding because of Efient and aspirin.
Avatar n tn Hi and sorry you have these problems. The Fenofibrate can cause bloating indigestion, stomach pain, and increased liver enzymes or liver problems in addition to other side effects. The Zetia can cause some of these too. Have they tested your liver enzymes yet? If so were they normal? There are other drugs for lowering cholesterol and triglycerides that work as well. You can ask him to have you try Lipitor (generic) and there is now a generic Niaspan. I know because my husband is on it.
315318 tn?1353251800 Your question raised my curiosity and after a short research, my understanding is that it is not the fenofibrate but the rosuvastatin (Crestor) the one that can give you this effect. See this: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20507274 Also it seems that insulin sensitivity gets better as the endothelial functions gets better and this is one of the effects of the statins, see this: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar m tn Fenofibrate is mainly used to reduce cholesterol levels in people at risk of cardiovascular disease. If your mother stops taking the medication, her cholesterol levels will probably rise again which in turn increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. There is a lot discussion going on about the effectiveness of cholesterol lowering medication but large tests have shown the benefit of it and most cardiologists have the same opinion.

Avatar n tn You can google the warnings and side effects of that one. I also take Tricor for my hyperlipidemia. But that is a fenofibrate, not a statin. Have you ever tried the grandfather of statins, Lipitor? Talk to your doctor and get the straight answers.

Avatar m tn Hi I was recently prescribed Fenofibrate to help reduce my high cholesterol levels etc... after a blood test. I have been doing some digging around regarding the drug and it says I should not be taking it if one has Hep B. I haven't found what the reasons are so I was wondering if someone could elaborate why one should not be taking it if one has Hep B. Thanks so much for your help.
Avatar f tn I had diarrhea, when wiping I saw what I usually do, completely normal. But once I stood up to flush, my stool was completely normal still, (as in diarrhea normal) but there was a dark reddish color in the entirety of the water, I did have something with quite a bit of barbeque sauce today, which I normally don't have that much with anything, it's a redd-ish brown color, Could that be it? Meds I am currently on are levothyroxine and fenofibrate.
Avatar f tn My doctor put me on Lipitor , after three days, started feeling depress and started having pains in my left foot. The pains are bearable but it is if I over did exercise and it hurts constant.. My dr told me to come off the Lipitor, so what should I take.?. My body seem to be producing the cholesterol, and the level of the choleserol is down to 179 but the Triglycerides are 259, hence the reason for the crestor and lipitor.. Can anyone suggest anything..
Avatar m tn s are easy to lower, cut back on all sugars, breads, pastas and alcohol, that usually is enough. If not, you can try a Fenofibrate which is a very effective drug.

Avatar n tn My husband is 55 and has a Cholesterol of 275 and triglycerides of 917. This has been steadily rising for over 4 years. The physician has always just told him to lose weight and eight right. He does not. He heats McDonalds, Hardees, Arbys, etc. up to 3 times per day. He is scheduled to have a rotater cuff repair the 1st of December. What are the risks of operating on him without lowering these levels. By the way, his HDL and LDL cannot be calculated due to the elevated Chol. and Tri.
Avatar f tn I am 63 yrs. Have had angina/MI/angioplasty with 3 stents RCA 1996. I had angina/angio with no stents in 1998, 2000, 2002. In 2004 another round of angina,MI, 2 more stents in RCA. I now have "full metal jacket" in that artery. I have had no problems since. My concern at this moment is that I have had 2 bouts of angina in the last 2 evenings. It is the exact same as all the others, shortness of breath when lay down on left side, achy tingling on inside of upper left arm and neck, jaw.
Avatar m tn Tricor is a Fenofibrate which helps control cholesterol and TGLS by blocking their abosorbtion into your system through your intestinal tract. There is an extremely and I mean EXTREMELY small chance that Tricor can cause Diabetes, but it is extremely rare. How high was you fasting blood sugar level? What does your doctor say? Let us know so we can hellp provide better help.

My problem is that although I have lost 30 lbs, brought my chol. down to low normal range, walk everyday, worked hard to get glucose under control, I have now started to see the old angina symptoms coming back! Mostly when I lay down at night or do anything (walking, stairs, etc) right after a meal. Some shortness of breath also.
