Common Questions and Answers about What is bystolic used for

bystolic

Avatar n tn bystolic is a fairly new drug in the U.S. It's been being used in Europe for a while. I have had far fewer side effects from it than from the atenolol. The atenolol did nothing for PVCs and PACs for me, in fact, it actually seemed to make them worse. I've been taking bystolic since November..so far so good.
Avatar f tn I take 20 mg in the morning with 125 mg of magnesium taurate then 5mg of Norvasc for HTN then take 10 mg of by Bystolic at night with 125 mg of magnesium taurate in between I take .5 Xanax in the morning and at night I have not had one PVC in the last three years I feel like a different human being!
Avatar m tn I am taking it for slightly high blood pressure. As it happens, I also have frequent palpitations (for decades now). I find that Bystolic actually *does* decrease my palps, even though I did not expect that! BTW, this is the only blood pressure medication I've ever taken that seems to be without nasty side effects. The first week, I felt as though I might have had a bit too much to drink, but since then, I can't even tell that I'm taking anything.
Avatar m tn My doctor suggested bystolic. It has worked very well for the last year, I have been very pleased with it. In fact, I didn't switch my insurance this year because the alternative company did not want to authorize the use of the bystolic (it's a lot more expensive). I have had no side effects to speak of, much less than the atenolol. I would certainly give it a shot.
Avatar f tn Just curious if anyone who is taking bystolic experiences side effects all the time, or if it is a gradual onset after dosing, or what? My side effects always seem to hit me in the late afternoon, early evening. I take my dose anytime between 6am and 7am.
Avatar m tn I was put on 2.5mg am and 5mgpm bystolic. I used to walk 4 miles and play good golf. I have put on weight i have no engegy to walk nor desire .My golf is now poor tired after 12 holes. any "effort tires me. Am 81 and always felt much younger. no longer. I wonder if less would make a difference. I couldn,t even finish a stress test.
Avatar f tn My doc LOVES Bystolic. Both are Selective Betablockers and they say Bystolic has little or no side effect. I would give it a try. I have not used either but have heard very good things about it.
Avatar n tn Bystolic (Nebivolol) is used alone or in combination with other medications to treat high blood pressure. It is in a class of medications called beta blockers. It works by relaxing blood vessels and slowing heart rate to improve blood flow and decrease blood pressure. If you mean that you are taking Bystolic and it is causing you pain....and according to PCP and literate it should not....I agree with you. Our systems can respond differently then others do to medications. We are all different.
Avatar n tn ve been on metoprolol before, and had some awful side effects with that one, but the bystolic seems to tame those down quite a bit for me. I've only had two instances in which I could tell I was experiencing some slight side effects (dizziness, slight shortness of breath, pressure). I've also been told by my GP that, if I find myself with a rapid heart rate or back in A-fib, I can take another 2.5mg dose right then, since it's such a small dosage.
Avatar f tn I know that you have a nursing background but there are some hypertension specialists forum that mention that bystolic has been around in europe for a while and it is a good choice for those who cannot tolerate beta blockers. Blockers are not first choice treatment for hypertension but bystolic is okay, so a bit puzzled with your comment. And as you may know some people find a substantial decrease in panic and anxiety attacks when their hypertension is brought under control.
116881 tn?1189755823 I do not have any experience with Bystolic, but I have considerable experience with beta blockers. It is my experience with them that after a few weeks the side effects become less noticeable. In my case I had to opposite problem, I take BB to lower my HR, not my BP, but the BP went down too, and it made me prone to dizziness. This passed and now my BP is about normal. I suppose that could be your case with a too low HR, but I do not have any direct evidence..
280234 tn?1532986249 Hi, I'm a 33 year old Caucasian female. I'm 5'4, 145 lbs. I developed high blood pressure in 2002 (when I was 22)during the last months of pregnancy, & after the birth of my daughter. My OB then said I did not have Toxemia. I had a really difficult labor having her, and my BP got really high during the delivery. After the delivery, my BP started running higher than it used to, like about 154/95.
214864 tn?1229715239 t drained of their energy from beta blockers. Bystolic is new in the US, but has been approved for use in Europe for years. I would appreciate any information at all. Thanks for reading.
343006 tn?1314446471 well it worked for a while, but after time it came back again same old thing again, wondering if bystolic is that strong even at 2.5 mg daily ?? or could it be interacting with the verapamil im on as well ?? The cardio doctor more less threw in the towel on me ! and refues to deal with my problems. I also get from verapamil swelling of ankles - and bloating of belly conditions - clearly there is something wrong here! as I never had these problems before !
Avatar m tn Bystolic is a beta-blocker, and a side effects is fatigue, although the manufacture alleges there is a lower incidence in the promotional literature. And yes, those inhalers have side-affects also. Using any medication entails a risk-benefit situation. My opinion is that the patient should be the one making the final decision. To find an answer regarding a specific medication the physician and the pharmacist are not the people to consult.
1933354 tn?1323362834 I went on Bystolic for rapid beats and I think I'm onto something here regarding my GAD. I feel better! Could this really be the cure? I take half of a 5mg and my heart doesn't race alarming me that I am anxious. Now really smooth and feel much less GAD. If anyone else has had some good results by taking this please let me know.
Avatar m tn My doctor just recommend a new med called nebivolol (bystolic) to me thst im pretty hesitant to try as propranolol does help Most out of what ive tried. The nebivolol bystolic didnt get the besr reviews from what ive seen. thats just my experiences and what things have worked and not worked for me on an individual basis. I feel some of my pvcs are caused by anxiety, some by exercise or increase in working out and some by large meals.
Avatar m tn The question I have is I am taking Bystolic Imdur ER and Lisiniprol which I know the Bystolic keeps the heart rate way down...at what rate should I use for heart rate for training .. My max would normally 158 but I am not sure what changes on meds.......
Avatar n tn What a relief to see these comments.I'm on 10mg Bystolic & 20mg Lisinopril My doctor couldn't understand why I complained about heavy legs. Especially going up stairs. Also, I am tired, limited desire to work around the house, which I loved to do (handyman), lighhtheaded, etc. Had a series of tests (stress, circulatory, etc) performed with negative results. Not sure if it's a result of Bystolic or Lisinopril. I need to experiment.
Avatar m tn I can't handle the 5 mg, so I cut in in 1/2. It is also available in a 2.5 pill. I works much better.
Avatar f tn When your prescriber gives you a medication he will need to look at your full health profile to determine what is best for you considering your multiple disease states. I would suggest asking your doctor to do some bloodwork to check on your thyroid levels. Then you can go from there. I cannot recommend a better medication for you as I cannot diagnose and do not have your chart in front of me. I hope the information that I have supplied can help you out. Best of luck to you.
Avatar f tn that is pretty strong stuff and using it for sleep is way off label. It is a drug for bipolar disorder and now also used for major depressive disorder. i would switch to ambien or a drug made for sleep.
Avatar m tn Is it normal to still feel fatigue after taking the bp meds for a few months? I thought the fatigue was supposed to go away after the body gets used to the bp meds???
15256956 tn?1439425231 If I understand dosage equivalencies for Beta-Blockers, then 20mg of Bystolic once daily is equal to 100mg Metoprolol twice a day. I know the Metoprolol seemed like a high dose, but 150mg was in the middle, dosage-wise. There are people who take 400mg a day. I was taking it twice a day to get the full effect for 24 hours (Metoprolol takes about an hour to get in your system and has a half-life of 6-7 hours), so yeah, while it sounded like a 300mg, it was really just 150mg per 24 hours.
Avatar f tn CTucker225 is right FDA approved 12/07. I tried Bystolic for three months it did not work for me. My heart rate increased and had sever dizziness, Had to stop was on 10 mg.
