Common Questions and Answers about Warfarin in pregnancy guidelines

Monster I have been taken off Warfarin, prescribed after surgery. I possess 14 2.5mg tablets. What is the safest way for me to dispose of them?
Avatar f tn Loading doses of warfarin are not warranted and may result in bleeding complications. Interactions with other drugs must be considered, and therapy in elderly patients requires careful management. Current dosing recommendations are reviewed, and practical guidelines for the optimal use of warfarin are provided". Hope this helps, and if you have any further questions or comments you are welcome to respond. Thanks for your question. Take care.
Avatar f tn The American College of Chest Physicians proposed guidelines for antithrombotic prophylaxis in patients with different risk factors, and it recommends that if the annual risk for thromboembolism is low, warfarin therapy can be withheld for 4-5 days before the procedure without bridging.
Avatar f tn I am 16 weeks pregnant and have had an Mitral Valve replacement around 20 yrs back - I am on Lovenox and now due to my heart condition my doc recommended I switch to Warfarin - I wanted to know if there is anyone out there who ahs taken warfarin in the second trimester and what are the outcomes? Please I will really apreciate it. I am so apprehensive but I know it will help my heart since i had 2 mini strokes recently. Please anyone out there?????
Avatar n tn There is no guarantee that it is gone. In fact it is likely that the clot may not be gone. Having a blood clot in one’s lung is a very serious situation. Your doctors should make every effort to identify the source of the blood clot and the reason(s) for its formation. This is a very treatable medical condition and you should currently and for some weeks or even months to come, be on an anti-coagulant medicine to thin your blood.
Avatar n tn my mother underwent for the valve replacemet(mitral valve and tissue valve)before two years.suddenly she got blood clot in her leg.she ask to use warfarin to remove the blood clot.now she is getng back to normal.may i knw why was it happened suddenly and will it occur in fucture? will this lead to stroke? doctor saying cox of the heart rhythm problem. is that occuring cox of her valve?
Avatar f tn A heart rate of 60 beats per minute is medically defined as bradycardia. However, there is no absolute number that defines when a heart rate is too low. Rather, this is based on when a patient starts experiencing symptoms or evidence of poor tissue perfusion from a low blood pressure. If you are currently on Sotalol and experiencing symptoms such as fatigue, light-headedness, dizziness, or fainting while your heart rate is in the 40-50's, I would speak with your physician immediately.
Avatar m tn 0cm aortic root dilitation. I would like an honest opion on a possible 4th pregnancy. My largest concern is a dissection. Would someone please offer advise? I would greatly appreciate it.
10485665 tn?1411740029 It varies for everyone so there really is no guideline. It depends on genes, your activity level, the food you eat. For me, I gain little to no weight during pregnancy...It's the year after the baby comes out that I pack on 30lbs from breastfeeding (breastfeeding doesn't always make you lose weight). Talk to your doctor about it, but don't stress. Eat healthy, exercise moderately, but don't worry about the weight. It will come off after baby is born!
Avatar f tn Thank you for your input ladies!!!! I'm feeling very stressed about the whole situation. I'm on lovenox shots and oxycodone pills gor the pain. Hopefully everything gets better sooner than later O:-) good luck to the both of you!!!!
Avatar m tn Also they did some reserch and they told me that some people have the same reaccion in the hands when they take warfarin. Can you guys help me about this. I put cream on my hand everyday 3 o 4 time a day also y try to put cream and slepp with gloves at nitgh but the soon i wash my hand or i ty to open a botlle or do something with them get worse , .
Avatar m tn In a study published today (1 August) in the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, researchers show that warfarin reduces the scarring on the liver. This scarring, or fibrosis, replaces normal liver cells and can lead to cirrhosis of the liver and ultimately liver failure.
1679243 tn?1307674938 This is more of a question about Warfarin, Plavix, blood thinning treatment ect... I was swimming yesterday with my kids and was rubbing my eyes a good bit. Afterwards my wife noticed my left eye was bleeding, not pouring blood but there is blood in the white part of my eye. Doesn't hurt or bother me it's just a nice size blood spot. I've been on Warfarin and Plavix and a daily baby aspirin for over 6 months to treat my heart disease.
Avatar n tn I just got back from seeing my doctor and was told that aspirin is no substitute for warfarin. The problem is in establishing a consistent INR reading of 2-3. as soon as I can achieve that reading I will only have to go for blood test once a month. The stroke, according to my cardiologist was caused by Afib.
Avatar f tn I started 5 mg of warfarin on friday..today is sunday and i am seriously considering not taking my dose today at 10am. I started my schedule for taking it at 10am daily. When i took my first dose friday at 10am later that day right around 3 or 4 i started experiencing intense upset stomach.
Avatar f tn I have on many occassions stopped my warfarin for medical procedure reasons. I take only 5 mg a day. So, in my exlperience on can stop "cold turkey" without any problems other than an increased chance of blood clots and storke. I have several risk factors, oncluding permenant AFib, so I have no choice. I do not have many side effects from Warfarin, but I am on less than half the dose you are taking. Do discuss with your doctor at your earliest, surely within a week or two.
Avatar n tn Some surgeons request that a patient not be on plavix or warfarin at the time of surgery in order to minimize the risk of bleeding. Traditionally, the effects of plavix on platelets is minimal after 5 days. Usually, blood clots normally about three days after taking warfarin. This is quite variable and can be confirmed by a blood test (either checking INR or prothrombin time), prior to surgery.
Avatar n tn If a patient on warfarin has a condition, such as a stomach ulcer, that makes anticoagulation undesirable, then any bleeding of the ulcer might be considered a side effect of warfarin. There is also an unusual but real conditon called warfarin necrosis, in which the skin ulcerates and sloughs off, but warfarin necrosis is pretty much unmistakable, and it doesn't sound like your father has that.
Avatar f tn I take warfarin everyday. I had aortic valve replacement in 2001 and had an artificial heart valve installed. The downside to that is I will have to take blood thinners for the rest of my life because of the artificial valve. That is not the case with a tissue valve. It has really not had any affect on me at all. The one thing that I know warfarin affects is Vitamin K. Vitamin K is what causes your blood to clot. Therefore the warfarin cancels out some of the Vit.
Avatar f tn 3 days later (boxing day) I was rushed to hospital with chest pains and diagnosed with self imposed pulmonary embolism. I was put on to Warfarin and monitored in hospital for 2 weeks.
Avatar f tn In 2007, the American Heart Association issued new guidelines saying, in part, antibiotics are no longer necessary in most cases for someone with mitral valve regurgitation or mitral valve prolapse. This doesn't mean it's not important to take good care of your teeth through brushing and flossing. There is some concern that infections in your mouth from poor oral hygiene might increase the risk of germs entering your bloodstream.
Avatar n tn He says I have chances of getting a clot in damaged section of heart (anterior) and warfarin is more effective. For last two yesrs I am on asprin+clopidogrel. My EF is 35% due to MI in 2007. Anyone who has experience and/or information on above, please advise.
Avatar n tn The new cardio did not order any blood work or echo and ret in a yr. He wants me to do warfarin (a protein S deficiency, needed heparin during pgs, travel and was on warfarin for about 6 mths after the PE and cardiomyopathy). Q's: What should I do about my recent cholesterol numbers (fasting numbers), aside from more strict dietary approach. I eat a good low fat,low salt, fresh vege/fruit, cereal diet already.
