Avatar f tn There are guidelines with American College of Chest Physicians that have proposed guidelines for antithrombotic prophylaxis in patients with different risk factors, and it recommends that if the risk for thromboembolism is low, warfarin therapy can be withheld for 4-5 days before the procedure without bridging. Your interest with the medication and a prosthetic heart valves pose a particular problem.
Monster I have been taken off Warfarin, prescribed after surgery. I possess 14 2.5mg tablets. What is the safest way for me to dispose of them?
Avatar n tn The protocol guidelines are aspirin and plavix for year or a little longer if the implant was DES. Drug enduced stents have propensity to form a clot when compared to bare metal stents. After a year the consensus is to continue aspirin (81mg is OK), and unless there is a special need for an additional anti-platelet medication the plavix should be discontinued based on the risk of uncontrolled bleeding, etc. is greater than any benefit.
Avatar m tn Dear Medical Experts: Brief background: I'm 48, 6'-1", 250lbs, body fat around 22 percent (waist minus neck size). Health issues: During March '10, steep ramp up of monthly bicycling mileage from 240 miles to 700 miles left me with sciatic nerve issues the result in my opinion of the piriformis muscle contacting the sciatic nerve. After the second attack, sought treatment at a spinal sports med clinic. During this period, traveled to Australia from US Pacific Coast.
Avatar f tn Hi, I had a double bypass in May 2011, three months ago and in the past two weeks i am getting very intense chest pain like i had before the surgery. I am having an angiogram in 5 days time and i am worried as they cannot put stents in because i am on Warfarin (Comadum} and they cannot give me another blood thinner for the platlets as they do when they put in stents. I have just turned 60. Thanks a mill!
Avatar f tn I broke my ankle in Thailand and very foolishly strapped my ankle and flew to England the next day. 3 days later (boxing day) I was rushed to hospital with chest pains and diagnosed with self imposed pulmonary embolism. I was put on to Warfarin and monitored in hospital for 2 weeks.
Avatar f tn Given that yesterday he said to not take the warfarin he was changing me from the genertic warfarin and putting me on the brand name of the med coumadin. Said some folks do not tolerate warfarin well but do well on coumadin and i am to start the coumadin today. I would be lying if i didn't say i am a bit gunshy at this point. This med has made me absolutely miserable and today is my 43rd bday...
1569985 tn?1328247482 Had a worrisome experience a week ago. Went to the ER with chest pain, they held me for observation overnight. Turned out not to be heart related, but when they did a chest x-ray, they found a spot on my lung that needs to be checked out. Had scans and bloodwork the last 2 days, will find out next Monday what the verdict is. I will need a biopsy, but with my history (breast cancer 22 years ago) they want to check to make sure nothing is else is happening.
Avatar m tn When I take my resting pulse at the wrist it is normal but sometimes irregular @ 70bpm. With a sport chest strap it reads anywhere from 80-150. I was on Beta blockers Metoprolol (25 mg twice daily) in the springime for about 6 weeks and found that it caused such fatique with the least exertion that I stopped sporting activities. I play badminton and I jog 3k 3 times a week (~ 20 minutes). My BP with Metoprolo was also on the low side - typically around the 100/65 mark.
Avatar n tn Also, there are National Guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of this condition and your doctors should refer to them and adhere to them. Good luck.
Avatar m tn Most cough and cold medications are actually okay to take with Warfarin, as long as they don't contain any steroid or non-steroidal antiinflammatory (like Advil or Motrin). These also thin the blood, and can be a problem when combined with Warfarin. For a cough, try something like guaifenesin, like Robitussin Severe Congestion Liquagels or Mucinex. Avoid dextramethorphan, like Robitussin DM.
1090423 tn?1286287650 hi , i was diagnosed with dvt three weeks ago , i was given clexane injections for 11 days and warfarin , i am only on warfarin now , no more injections my inr is 2.
Avatar n tn Hi, How are you? Side effects of Warfarin or coumadin include severe headache, dizziness, fainting, unusual or persistent tiredness, bloody/black/tarry stools, chest pain, shortness of breath, difficulty swallowing and swelling or sudden weight gain. If you observe these symptoms, inform your doctor for proper management.Coumadin can cause serious bleeding and this is the reason your INR should be monitored. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn Thank you for your question. Although without being able to examine you I can not offer you the specific advice on diagnosis and treatment that you need, but I would try to provide you some relevant information about your health concern. From your description of symptoms, it appears that due to clot disorder it may be leading to formation of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) that is a dysfunction of deep valves of veins. Symptoms appear as painful, burning, red, and warm leg.
Avatar f tn Regarding antithrombotic therapy in the setting of atrial fibrillation, the guidelines recommend this for all patients with AF, except those with lone AF or contraindications. The selection of the antithrombotic agent is usually based on the absolute risk of stroke and bleeding and the relative risk and benefit for a given patient. Based on the level of risk, most patients are either started on aspirin or Warfarin (Coumadin).
Avatar m tn t see how they could treat with warfarin under those circumstances. Anyone taking warfarin must be monitored routinely with a PT to check clotting factor. Warfarin can be some nasty stuff but if reduces fibrosis what the heck. They've thrown every other drug at us and we still keep bouncing back. Thanks for the info.
Avatar n tn Why the pattern? His Arrhythmia is like his heart skips a beat. I can put my head on his chest and hear it. It sound like it stops for a split second. Have you every heard of the pattern 2 weeks on 2 weeks off?
351404 tn?1299489130 it lasted for a couple of days, spontaneously reverted (as it always does so far) and I was placed on Warfarin. Two AF free months later, I was taken off Warfarin and put on low dose daily aspirin. Now bradycardia has also been diagnosed and a future pacemaker is on the cards if my condition worsens. I write to ask what is the alarm level at which I ought to seek further intervention.
Avatar n tn If you are having chest pains on warfarin therapy it is important to rush to ER, if you have not already, and rule out any bleed in lungs or a clot maybe. A CT scan of chest would need to be done. Other than that get bleeding time, clotting time, prothrombin time done. Backache could be due to pinched lumbo-sacral soinal nerves.
1569985 tn?1328247482 I am worried about being on Warfarin. I really smacked it, but it did not break the skin and I did not see stars, pass out or anything. I called the nurse and she told me to watch for double vision or dizziness, but she said they worry more about people slipping and falling and cracking their head. So far I just have a slight headache, but my anxiety is kicking in and that's never good. Has anyone had this happen? Any input? Thanks.
351404 tn?1299489130 Following a stay in hospital having gone to the hospital ER of my own volition, they kept me for four days and changed my medication to Bisoprolol and Warfarin. I reverted to sinus spontaneously after about three days and that was over a month ago - so far so good! I am awaiting a Holter monitor to see how often I get spells of AF. My question is - what ought I to do when I am aware of the rhythm having changed to AF?
Avatar f tn Have had heart palpitations since my late 20s, drs considered them harmless, and they almost disappeared when I started BP meds. Noticed occasional fluttering in my chest past 2-3 yrs, getting more frequent past few months, and now notice mild discomfort with them occasionally in the middle of my chest~ not exactly pain, but twinges and brief discomfort lasting only a few seconds, but increasing infrequency the past few weeks.
