738075 tn?1330575844 OK, so I'm recovering from my 3rd attack this year, and last Friday I started having R ankle and leg pain. I figured I had CRPS from all the spasms in my legs. But Nooooo - You ready for this? Deep Venous Thrombosis!! Sheesh, so now I'm on rat poison (Warfarin) for the next 6 months on top of everything else! I really don't think this year can get much worse - thank goodness it's almost over!
Avatar m tn 9 Months ago I had a DVT, Which broke off and became a PE. The DVT was in my Left Knee, and after 3 months of using Warfarin and several Ultrasounds and VQ Scans Later I was diagnosed as Fine and no more need for the Warfarin.
1090423 tn?1286287650 hi , i was diagnosed with dvt three weeks ago , i was given clexane injections for 11 days and warfarin , i am only on warfarin now , no more injections my inr is 2.
Avatar f tn I had a severe DVT and took warfarin for six months. I was taken off it per my former MD and then had a near-fatal PE from another clot! I was taking aspirin when I had the PE. If you read the literature, even therapeutic levels of warfarin won't guarantee preventing subsequent clots. If I were you, I'd get the second opinion but STAY ON WARFARIN FOR LIFE and make the necessary adjustments. I also have no known genetic predispositions to DVT.
1090423 tn?1286287650 i am on warfarin for dvt and metformin for diabetes nothing has changed , i have only been on warfarin for 5 weeks
Avatar f tn m sure there was a clot there also. I was on warfarin for 6 months and I went off it a month ago as the left leg showed to be dissolved and free of the clot. As I went off warfarin the symptoms of tingling/pain, muscle spasm and blood flowing around in my calfs and pooling in my feet worsened. I have been wearing compression hose the whole time and I was told to go to a lighter compression now. the pain is much improved from when I first had the dvt but it is still not gone.
Avatar f tn I haven't tried this. I recently had a dvt. I was on warfarin for 6 months and now I've stopped it. I am still wearing the compression socks, but only 8-15 compression now... I still have symptoms of pain/tingling etc. blood flowing around in my calfs.. it got worse again after being off warfarin. I plan to go to my vascular surgeon soon to ask about this. I took a look at that and it looks very cumbersome to wear that... do you think it would be better than socks?
Avatar f tn I was on warfarin for 6 months and a dvt in the popliteal vein. when my inr went up due to being on anti inflammotories- I had severe neck pain and nothing else helped- my inr nurse told me to increase my vitamin k veggies and this worked well to keep it even. When it went down my dose was increased and or I was told to skip green veggies that day and take an extra dose. I went for testing nearly every week during the time I was on warfarin due to lots of fluctuations.
Avatar m tn Need advice...my husband has had a dvt in his leg below knee for three months. Last week he hit his shin at work and now leg is really swollen and purple especially on the heel. he has been on coumadin since initial diagnosis and also his doctor put him on lovenox shots for ten days. The lovenox was also given short term when he was diagnosed. There was another ultrasound done when he injured his leg and now they are not sure if he developed another clot or if this is the same clot.
2064754 tn?1333375663 I see both a vascular surgeon and in the hospital after I was diagnosed I saw a hematologist who did blood clotting testing as well as monitor my warfarin therapy for 6 months at their clinic. I would see both.
Avatar f tn Coumadin (warfarin) is among the oldest of anticoagulants. It is broadly approved for many uses, including treatment of DVT and of atrial fibrillation. The difficulties with warfarin are much as you stated (dietary restrictions limiting Vitamin K intake, frequent monitoring required, and possibly frequent dosage adjustments).
Avatar f tn re on a blood thinner like warfarin for some reason, they may aim for 2.0 - 3.0. In some cases where clotting is a real problem they may push it up to 2.5 to 3.5. Does that help? Do you have a heart or clotting disorder? Work with your doctor on that. They can control it but you'd have to be monitored regularly.
Avatar m tn I had a dvt with a pe in 2000,im on warfarin for life.i have 2 negative blood proteins..I've tried to understand the concept of how when the days you take it.when does it show on my blood inr..so if I take my 7mgs on whensday will that show on my inr..ive been on this med 16 yrs now, I still cant figure how to make my vit k concesent,to be below 90 mcg a day..I will post some more questions here another time, as I seem to have many..
1090423 tn?1286287650 hi , i have been to the doctor and i have dvt which i an being treated for but i still have a headache ,, worse when laying down so sleeping is a problem, thank you
Avatar f tn My only experience is Warfarin (generic Coumaden) for about 15 years. I'm at 5 mg daily, and 7.5 mg a couple of times a week. I am always in the 2-3 range, and guess Warfarin would hold be at 2.5 + if I took 7.5 mg a day. I am not suggesting a dose change, just sharing experience. I eat green vegetables/salads often and it doesn't seem to make any big change.
Avatar n tn Is it common to have a PE with no evidence of a DVT? Am I realisticly looking at Lovenox for the rest of my life? I am a 32 year old male with no prior history and according to the doctors in good health. A few women on my mother's side have had DVT's around childbirth, but to my knowledge, noone has shown any genetic predisposition that can be identified.
Avatar m tn The antidotes for xarelto and pradaxa are still being developed. My 93 yr old father in law has been on warfarin for 20+ years now and doing ok with it.
Avatar f tn I have been on Warfarin for about 15 years at the 5 mg level per day. I need clot prevention because I suffer from Atrial Fibrillation. I have not had any real problems, lucky me. My monthly test of INR usually comes in near 2.5 but rarely at 3.1 or thereabouts which raises concerns, but no over problems. Last week a awoke with a bleeding noise (it has been unusually cold in New Jersey USA this year) and that may have been the driver.
681348 tn?1226596590 I am a 45 year old male who suffered a snapped tendon in my leg. After the operation to fix it I suffered a Pulmanary Embolisim (PE) blocking my main pulmanary artery & segmental / sub segmental arteries bilaterally. The PE was caused by an extensive thrombosis (DVT) after surgery to my leg. The PE caused me to get very breathless & go blue etc. On my way to the ambulance I suffered a further attack and the ambulance ECG showed I was in VT.
Avatar f tn The pain started very suddenly, with sharp pains every time i took a breath, movement and fluttering sensations when still. I was in hospital for over a week and was put on warfarin for six months. I am still very concerned as it is now 6 weeks later and i am still experiencing pains in my chest, sometimes sharp but mainly like a dull, heavy sensation. I am on morphine 20 mg in the morning and 20 mg at night and oramorph in the day when necessary, if the pain worsens.
1569985 tn?1328247482 I have been on warfarin for many years, and recall in my down-hill skiing days taking a spill that made me think "concussion", but after a few minutes I seemed to be fine. Hum, maybe this is what is wrong with my memory : ( Since the end of 2007 I have been in permanent AFib too. To your question, yes, I have hit an banged my head a number of times and I have not had any bleeding related problems, related to warfarin or just to accidents.
