Avatar f tn My choice was to stay on coumadin, as I am fearful of another blood clot. That was my second blood clot in about 8 years, in the same leg. My father died from a massive blood clot through the heart/lungs. Although, I had the genetic blood test to see if I was prone to repeat blood clots, the result was negative. Help, please advise what I should do. .
Avatar f tn I am also a long term sufferer of dvt, mine is in the left illiac vein, top of thigh just before the groin area for normal people, I have sores or venous ulcers due to having the clot, normal procedure would be to use a compression dressing to give the sore a chance to heal properly, with ur other medication for other illnesses are they tested with anticoagulation medication, I have had 6different types of anti biotics with no effect on the inr, would it possible to have stents or angioplasty do
Avatar m tn 9 Months ago I had a DVT, Which broke off and became a PE. The DVT was in my Left Knee, and after 3 months of using Warfarin and several Ultrasounds and VQ Scans Later I was diagnosed as Fine and no more need for the Warfarin.

Avatar f tn As much as I hate the socks, they saved my life for sure and cut my pain in 1/2 at least. Plus they are preventitive of dvt. But you only need the medium ones for that I think, the heavy ones were so hard to put on and take off!!! please add me as a friend if you like I can't figure out how to do that here.
Avatar f tn I wish someone out there could give me some input with this pump? I don't want to buy it before I hear anything on it...please help!
1090423 tn?1286287650 I was diagnosed as having hemisensory migraine which is a migraine that affects one side of the body. I was given amitryptiline, a low dose antidepressant which did seem to help. I would however see if you can be referred to a specialist to get a correct diagnosis especially with the leg pain.
Avatar m tn After I left the hospital, I returned twice to an er for symptoms of another clot. I had a superficial one in my left arm and something in my right leg that probably never developed to a full clot due to being on warfarin. The one in my arm didn't become apparent until I tried to do some strengthening exercises for my arms, then I had pain and swelling etc. Good luck.
Avatar n tn i went for a ct scan because of shortness of breath and previous history of a dvt in my leg 18 months ago, im 41male previous DVT, increasing exertional dyspnoea the conclusion was no central pulmonary embolus.
Avatar f tn My only experience is Warfarin (generic Coumaden) for about 15 years. I'm at 5 mg daily, and 7.5 mg a couple of times a week. I am always in the 2-3 range, and guess Warfarin would hold be at 2.5 + if I took 7.5 mg a day. I am not suggesting a dose change, just sharing experience. I eat green vegetables/salads often and it doesn't seem to make any big change.
Avatar n tn I've been on coumadin for the past eight years, and I agree with Jason on all points. Inactivity is not necessarily the cause of DVT. Many active people get DVT, and most inactive people do not. Regular exercise is good for anyone, but it's not a substitute for anticoagulation therapy in cases in which anticoagulation therapy is indicated. eing on coumadin doesn't mean you can't eat foods that contain vitamin K.
Avatar f tn Given his age, and history of blood in stool and falls, it is reasonable to keep him on warfarin (coumadin), especially due to the evidence in people over 75 on Pradaxa, and the difficulty of reversal with Xarelto given his falls history. However, all of this should be discussed with his physician, and final decision will depend on many factors which go beyond the scope of this forum, including his physical exam and current health status.
612551 tn?1450022175 I am a long time user of Warfarin anticoagulant because of my AFib condition. The generic Warfarin cost about $10 (Walmart for example) for a 90 supply. My wife recently had major surgery to remove cancerous organs and is required to take a daily anticoagulant for 30 days. In her case it is injected by syringe and each Cost about $50, throw away devices. That a whopping $1,500 for 30 days.
Avatar m tn I had a dvt with a pe in 2000,im on warfarin for life.i have 2 negative blood proteins..I've tried to understand the concept of how when the days you take it.when does it show on my blood inr..so if I take my 7mgs on whensday will that show on my inr..ive been on this med 16 yrs now, I still cant figure how to make my vit k concesent,to be below 90 mcg a day..I will post some more questions here another time, as I seem to have many..
996946 tn?1503249112 Warfarin works by reducing clotting agents present in the blood which means you are more prone to bleeding. You should watch for blood in your faeces and try not to bruise yourself too much. It is also a good idea to have regular blood tests for checking Liver function. Are you on Warfarin long term?
Avatar f tn re on a blood thinner like warfarin for some reason, they may aim for 2.0 - 3.0. In some cases where clotting is a real problem they may push it up to 2.5 to 3.5. Does that help? Do you have a heart or clotting disorder? Work with your doctor on that. They can control it but you'd have to be monitored regularly.
681348 tn?1226596590 I am a 45 year old male who suffered a snapped tendon in my leg. After the operation to fix it I suffered a Pulmanary Embolisim (PE) blocking my main pulmanary artery & segmental / sub segmental arteries bilaterally. The PE was caused by an extensive thrombosis (DVT) after surgery to my leg. The PE caused me to get very breathless & go blue etc. On my way to the ambulance I suffered a further attack and the ambulance ECG showed I was in VT.
Avatar m tn I forgot to add that I'm not sure about swimming. You should see a vascular surgeon and hematologist if you haven't & ask them. Raising your legs above your heart when sitting, not sitting and standing still for too long and wearing the socks should help your swelling. The pillow I got was very helpful you can use it bed also- you don't need to wear the socks in bed, but put them on before you get out of bed in the morning as this stops the blood from pooling into your legs.
770426 tn?1235061489 I'm posting this comment in reply to the question regarding headaches/Coumadin. It is listed as a side effect you should report to your doctor. I have suffered with migraines for years. I take anti seizure medication & had greatly reduced them to just 2 a month from almost daily. After knee surgery in late March 2013, I developed DVT and was put on heparin & then warfarin. I am monitored & kept in INR range of 2-3.
Avatar f tn s as if the warfarin is still in my system still lingering though with milder symptoms since my last dose of it the day before yesterday. It's my understanding there is not much difference between any given generic med vs it's brand name...i wish i felt more hopeful that in this case it may be the generic brand warfarin and the name brand coumadin will indeed be different...but i don't at this point and all i know is i am miserable still from the warfarin.
