Common Questions and Answers about Vytorin results

vytorin

Avatar f tn However, the data actually showed no benefit for Vytorin over Zocor. In fact, while the results were not statistically significant, patients on Vytorin had more plaque growth than patients taking only Zocor. (The arterial wall thickness increased by 0.0111 mm for Vytorin, but only by 0.0058 mm for simvastatin alone -- a ratio of nearly 2 to 1.) There did not appear to be any difference in side effects, or in the incidence of cardiovascular events among the two groups." Go figure........
Avatar f tn My understanding of the Vytorin study results is that while it reduces your cholesterol level, you may be able to do it less expensively by just bumping up the amount of the generic drug in the pill - BUT - they aren't quite sure yet. The people selected for the study fell into the group that had high cholesterol due to genetics. Like jim62 said, I wouldn't worry too much about the Vytorin study results at this point.
Avatar m tn He took me off the Vytorin and put me on Zocor with same results. After stopping all meds and getting a colonoscopy and blood tests nothing was found. He now states I have IBS and put me on SSRI Citalopram. HELP! This discussion is related to Possible side effect of Lipitor and Vytorin on Liver / Body.
Avatar m tn //www.merck.com/product/usa/pi_circulars/v/vytorin/vytorin_pi.pdf EMedTV has an article that explains some statins are associated with high liver enzymes. It says increases in liver enzymes occur in 1.7 percent of people taking Vytorin. This increase appears to be more prevalent in people who are taking higher doses. It goes on to explain other causes of high liver enzymes.
Avatar m tn , 165 lbs, eat well (no red meat or pork, little dairy, etc), and active. My chol is excellent all around (thanks to 10mg of vytorin). Total chol was 215 before, 135 after. My dad had a heart attack at 49, second at 73, he is now 82. I went for stress test and echo last week. Dr said stress was great but he saw a very small calcium deposit on lining of heart muscle, not near arteries. He was not overly concerned and said we just need to watch it during next year's test.
1846163 tn?1331048748 I am cures Ty on Vytorin and will be starting therapy soon, I have read that someone on a cholesterol lowering drug should not be on this drug. Can you tell me why?
Avatar m tn Reading the many comments I came across one that stated lovastatin is an old medicine and is not used often. After recent cath my doctor changed my medication from vytorin ,have taken vytorin for 5 years, to lovastatin. I did ask for a cheaper medicine and lovastatin was what he came with. I have no problems or side effects . My question is lovastatin less effective then other of the same and if not why is it not used often. My engineering background comes out if I d not have proper data.
Avatar n tn I have IBS with diarrhea. My family doctor gave me Vytorin and it caused ONE HORRIBLE bout with the diarrea. So, my question is: Should people with IBS not take Vytorin? If the answer is: No,they shouldn't,then why do you think this side effect is not listed on the pamphlet that comes with the drug.....or any where else?!
Avatar f tn As my mother also has issues controling hers. He has prescribed Vytorin for me. I did do the full lipid panel and the HDL was 48 and LDL was above 150. I did check glucose level and it was ok. I have been making great efforts to sticking to my diet. Oatmeal for breakfast and no beaf, pork or shellfish. Fish at least twice per week and lots of protein from beans. I rarely eat eggs. As to exercise.
Avatar f tn I have been on Vytorin for a few years and my insurance company will not pay for it anymore. My doctor has switched me to Simvastatin (40mg) daily. My question is has anyone else made the switch and have they noticed any side-effects?
Avatar f tn Fatigue and lethargy are side effects of atenolol, however, I do not see any information suggesting that muscle weakness is a side effect of atenolol. I see that you also take Vytorin. It appears that symptoms of ALS,( Lou Gehrig's Disease) have been reported to the FDA in a higher than expected number of patients taking statins. ALS is a progressive motor neuron disorder with symptoms such as difficulty walking or standing, difficulty with fine motor skills and muscle paralysis.
Avatar f tn Vytorin is a statin that lowers LDL and raises HDL. I believe Vytorin is a combination of Zetia and Zocor. I am not sure if the Vytorin will go with the Niaspam so you will need to ask your doctor that.
Avatar f tn i was taking vytorin and plavix when i was told i have cll .
Avatar m tn Someone suggested that I consider inner imaging screening (EBT Hart scan). I am on Lipitor and Vytorin, I was taken off of Benicar two months ago because of the back pain and an elevated CPK 200's. Recent blood test revealed my cholesterol at 118 but my CPK at 205 and still experiencing lower back back pain. My blood pressure is 110/70 to 120/80. No prior hart problems. Do you think I should consider this image screening?
212161 tn?1599427282 I take it every night, it dropped my tri's over 50 points, great stuff with no side effects at all. I've been very happy with this med. I actually take it along with Vytorin, very happy with the results. Good luck!
Avatar m tn Hi, I was recently diagnosed with Chronic Hep B, I'm on Baraclude now, and have been on Crestor (Rosuvastatin ) for the last 10 years. If it's better for me to change to Simvastatin (Zocor, Vytorin), I'm all for it, but want to know if there's evidence out there. I've only found mention of one study that wrapped last year, but no results from it. Any info will be appreciated.
Avatar n tn Thanks for your reply. He has been on (5) Vytorin, Lipitor, Lescol, Baycol and Crestor. I know that he had great success lowering his Cholesterol with at least 2 or 3 of these agents, but he has suffered terribly each time with very acute muscle pains that are virtually non-stop. The pain resolves gradually over weeks as he stops taking the medications. And his test results (CPK, etc.) improve as well. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn Over the past 12 years or so I have taken Lipitor, Pravachol and, when 200mg total Cholesterol wasn't good enough anymore, Vytorin, which brought it down to 160. But, at the end of all that about two years ago I wound up in the ER with severe kidney problems. The doctors said, don't worry about it, just muscle pains and sent me home.
Avatar n tn t notice it during the day but it wakes me up during the night, hence not much sleep which is miserable. The only medicine I have been taking is Vytorin (for several years) with excellent results in my lab work. I am wondering if my heart is getting worse or what is going on. This worry with health insurance is pretty big too. This discussion is related to Arterial spasm or valve problems.
Avatar m tn I have some Lipitor in the cabinet and my doc is going to put me on Vytorin in 11 days. I was trying to avoid a new Rx of Simva since I have a cupboard full of comparable meds and will be starting Vytorin soon. I can't get a hold of my doc for a week. Just wondering if anyone knew of any bad reactions, a required layoff before switching, etc. Thank you very much.
Avatar f tn I recently had a Coronary Calcium Report(image) performed at our local heart center. A nurse discussed the results with me for 5 minutes. My doctor said it was useless, and to lose weight. The doctor gave me an EKG and said it was normal. The nurse alluded to the fact that EKG's are not the "gold standard" of diagnosis. The Docotor asked for $300.00 worth of blood tests that provided no new information.
Avatar f tn I am taking Inderal for migraines, Vytorin for high cholesterol, and Metformin for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.
Avatar n tn I am on Lipitor and Vytorin. Recent blood work revealed cholesterol at 118 but CPK at 205 also I have been experiencing lower back pain. Do you think I should consider this image screening?
645800 tn?1466860955 Been choking down 800mg gabapentins for a while now. They're scored; I could cut them in two, but they'd still be the same width, just half the length. They'd have rough corners then, too. Hey, Dennis, would they let you use Vytorin? It's worked super for my cholesterol. My insurance company puts it in the highest category, meaning I have to pay my highest copay rate, but it's still largely covered. No generic yet. Just a thought. Best wishes.
Avatar m tn A study showed results from virtually the entire Swedish population demonstrated that the threefold increase in statins use provided no benefit.
Avatar m tn My first cardiologist had me on 80mg Sotalol 2x per day plus 81mg Baby aspirin one per day plus Vytorin 10/20 once per day at night . With this cardiologist I had 1 AF episode per year the last 5 years and my resting pulse rate was 59.I switched to cardiologist # 2. Now, he eliminated sotalol, increased my aspirin intake to 325 mg per day in a.m. and I've had 3 AF episodes in the last three months since switching cardiologists and my resting pulse rate is 72-84. What should I do?
Avatar n tn My blood pressure goes bananas also. I am also on Vytorin which I started on saturday. I am sooooo exhausted not sure if it is from Vytorin or Lisinopril but have been on a ton of them and they all make me tired or cause me muscle pain or some other side effect. My doctor said that you need to stay on them for a while and then your blood pressure should regulate and the horrible side effects should go away after a few weeks.......we will see! Good Luck!
