It says increases in liver enzymes occur in 1.7 percent of people taking Vytorin. This increase appears to be more prevalent in people who are taking higher doses. It goes on to explain other causes of high liver enzymes.
Avatar m tn My doctor perscribed Vytorin 10/20. This is where my health began to deteriorate. I developed both clay soft stool and chronic explosive diarrhea in the mornings (3-4X before leaving the house) and excessive tiredness. At first I didnt put the two together, I just thought it was something I was eating or drinking so I continuously changed my diet. Nothing helped. I went back to the doctor for a 1 yr follow up and mentioned the diarrhea.
1846163 tn?1331048748 I am cures Ty on Vytorin and will be starting therapy soon, I have read that someone on a cholesterol lowering drug should not be on this drug. Can you tell me why?
Avatar m tn Reading the many comments I came across one that stated lovastatin is an old medicine and is not used often. After recent cath my doctor changed my medication from vytorin ,have taken vytorin for 5 years, to lovastatin. I did ask for a cheaper medicine and lovastatin was what he came with. I have no problems or side effects . My question is lovastatin less effective then other of the same and if not why is it not used often. My engineering background comes out if I d not have proper data.
Avatar n tn I have IBS with diarrhea. My family doctor gave me Vytorin and it caused ONE HORRIBLE bout with the diarrea. So, my question is: Should people with IBS not take Vytorin? If the answer is: No,they shouldn't,then why do you think this side effect is not listed on the pamphlet that comes with the drug.....or any where else?!
Avatar n tn without other drugs, vitamins. Within 2 hours and continues throughout the day, I am having overall weakness, cough, dizziness, legs feel like they are shaking inside, although not externally visible. B/P is sometimes 170 / 90 and other times 125 / 70 and anywhere in-between. Is there some other drug to control hypertension which does not have these side effects?
Avatar f tn I have been on Vytorin for a few years and my insurance company will not pay for it anymore. My doctor has switched me to Simvastatin (40mg) daily. My question is has anyone else made the switch and have they noticed any side-effects?
Avatar f tn Fatigue and lethargy are side effects of atenolol, however, I do not see any information suggesting that muscle weakness is a side effect of atenolol. I see that you also take Vytorin. It appears that symptoms of ALS,( Lou Gehrig's Disease) have been reported to the FDA in a higher than expected number of patients taking statins. ALS is a progressive motor neuron disorder with symptoms such as difficulty walking or standing, difficulty with fine motor skills and muscle paralysis.
Avatar f tn Vytorin is a statin that lowers LDL and raises HDL. I believe Vytorin is a combination of Zetia and Zocor. I am not sure if the Vytorin will go with the Niaspam so you will need to ask your doctor that.
Avatar f tn i was taking vytorin and plavix when i was told i have cll .
Avatar m tn Someone suggested that I consider inner imaging screening (EBT Hart scan). I am on Lipitor and Vytorin, I was taken off of Benicar two months ago because of the back pain and an elevated CPK 200's. Recent blood test revealed my cholesterol at 118 but my CPK at 205 and still experiencing lower back back pain. My blood pressure is 110/70 to 120/80. No prior hart problems. Do you think I should consider this image screening?
Avatar m tn , 165 lbs, eat well (no red meat or pork, little dairy, etc), and active. My chol is excellent all around (thanks to 10mg of vytorin). Total chol was 215 before, 135 after. My dad had a heart attack at 49, second at 73, he is now 82. I went for stress test and echo last week. Dr said stress was great but he saw a very small calcium deposit on lining of heart muscle, not near arteries. He was not overly concerned and said we just need to watch it during next year's test.
Avatar f tn As my mother also has issues controling hers. He has prescribed Vytorin for me. I did do the full lipid panel and the HDL was 48 and LDL was above 150. I did check glucose level and it was ok. I have been making great efforts to sticking to my diet. Oatmeal for breakfast and no beaf, pork or shellfish. Fish at least twice per week and lots of protein from beans. I rarely eat eggs. As to exercise.
Avatar n tn Over the past 12 years or so I have taken Lipitor, Pravachol and, when 200mg total Cholesterol wasn't good enough anymore, Vytorin, which brought it down to 160. But, at the end of all that about two years ago I wound up in the ER with severe kidney problems. The doctors said, don't worry about it, just muscle pains and sent me home.
Avatar m tn I have some Lipitor in the cabinet and my doc is going to put me on Vytorin in 11 days. I was trying to avoid a new Rx of Simva since I have a cupboard full of comparable meds and will be starting Vytorin soon. I can't get a hold of my doc for a week. Just wondering if anyone knew of any bad reactions, a required layoff before switching, etc. Thank you very much.
Avatar f tn I am taking Inderal for migraines, Vytorin for high cholesterol, and Metformin for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.
Avatar f tn I found Vytorin to be the most effective, as it controls both dietary and hereditary cholesterol. When I had my first blockage twelve years ago, my total cholesterol was over 300, now it is 150. I'd continue to question your doctor about your condition, stay active, and try not to get discouraged. Keep us informed.
Avatar n tn I am on Lipitor and Vytorin. Recent blood work revealed cholesterol at 118 but CPK at 205 also I have been experiencing lower back pain. Do you think I should consider this image screening?
645800 tn?1466860955 Been choking down 800mg gabapentins for a while now. They're scored; I could cut them in two, but they'd still be the same width, just half the length. They'd have rough corners then, too. Hey, Dennis, would they let you use Vytorin? It's worked super for my cholesterol. My insurance company puts it in the highest category, meaning I have to pay my highest copay rate, but it's still largely covered. No generic yet. Just a thought. Best wishes.
212161 tn?1599427282 I take it every night, it dropped my tri's over 50 points, great stuff with no side effects at all. I've been very happy with this med. I actually take it along with Vytorin, very happy with the results. Good luck!
Avatar n tn I had quadruple bypass surgery 13 years ago( using the left internal mammary artery grafting to the left anterior descending coronary) and recently had been having increasing jaw pains and upper back pains ( no dizziness or fainting). I had all sorts of cardiac tests (short of angiogram) that showed within normal limits Ejection fraction was normal but still I had these increasing symptoms of jaw pain relieved by rest.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with high cholesterol years ago. My dr first put me on Vytorin. I had no problems at all with that med. Then when the generic for Lipitor came out, she put me on that. I guess to save me money. I was having constant daily headaches. Neurologist treated it as Migraines. MRI was normal. Still having some migraines weekly now. But my neurologist says I'm fine and that I am clear to return to work.
Avatar m tn Hi, I was recently diagnosed with Chronic Hep B, I'm on Baraclude now, and have been on Crestor (Rosuvastatin ) for the last 10 years. If it's better for me to change to Simvastatin (Zocor, Vytorin), I'm all for it, but want to know if there's evidence out there. I've only found mention of one study that wrapped last year, but no results from it. Any info will be appreciated.
21064 tn?1309308733 I am currently taking Metoprolol which is used for a variety of things. I take it for BP and heart rate.
Avatar n tn I am a 46 year old male, 5' 11" and 168lbs. My legs are really bothering me lately. I can do something as simple as crouch down to pick up a toy, get back up and experience that "just worked out" feeling in my legs. Like they're "spent", sort of. Kicking a soccer ball around with my kids for more than a minute -- I really feel that in my legs though I'm not winded. Same thing going up stairs; my legs feel like lead but I'm not winded.
