Studies have found no links to incremental side effects with long term use. Your dosage is quite small, most all side effects occur with doses of 80 mg per day. Just make sure to get your blood tested annually to make sure there are no changes in your liver enzymes.

EMedTV has an article that explains some statins are associated with high liver enzymes. It says increases in liver enzymes occur in 1.7 percent of people taking Vytorin. This increase appears to be more prevalent in people who are taking higher doses.
It goes on to explain other causes of high liver enzymes.
I am currently on my 4th statin med since last fall to lower my LDL. I have had some intense muscle and joint pain in the past, which is why my doctor has been changing my statin type and dosage. We're trying to find the right combo. I have a history of CAD and PAD, have had a femoral stent, and am a smoker.(59 yo male, btw).
Does anyone know if I can substitute 20 mg Lipitor for my 20 mg Simvastatin, which I just ran out of?
My doctor perscribed Vytorin 10/20. This is where my health began to deteriorate. I developed both clay soft stool and chronic explosive diarrhea in the mornings (3-4X before leaving the house) and excessive tiredness. At first I didnt put the two together, I just thought it was something I was eating or drinking so I continuously changed my diet. Nothing helped. I went back to the doctor for a 1 yr follow up and mentioned the diarrhea.
Reading the many comments I came across one that stated lovastatin is an old medicine and is not used often. After recent cath my doctor changed my medication from vytorin ,have taken vytorin for 5 years, to lovastatin. I did ask for a cheaper medicine and lovastatin was what he came with. I have no problems or side effects . My question is lovastatin less effective then other of the same and if not why is it not used often. My engineering background comes out if I d not have proper data.
I have IBS with diarrhea. My family doctor gave me Vytorin and it caused ONE HORRIBLE bout with the diarrea.
So, my question is: Should people with IBS not take Vytorin?
If the answer is: No,they shouldn't,then why do you think this side effect is not listed on the pamphlet that comes with the drug.....or any where else?!
I have been on Vytorin for a few years and my insurance company will not pay for it anymore.
My doctor has switched me to Simvastatin (40mg) daily.My question is has anyone else made the switch and have they noticed any side-effects?
Fatigue and lethargy are side effects of atenolol, however, I do not see any information suggesting that muscle weakness is a side effect of atenolol. I see that you also take Vytorin. It appears that symptoms of ALS,( Lou Gehrig's Disease) have been reported to the FDA in a higher than expected number of patients taking statins. ALS is a progressive motor neuron disorder with symptoms such as difficulty walking or standing, difficulty with fine motor skills and muscle paralysis.

Someone suggested that I consider inner imaging screening (EBT Hart scan). I am on Lipitor and Vytorin, I was taken off of Benicar two months ago because of the back pain and an elevated CPK 200's. Recent blood test revealed my cholesterol at 118 but my CPK at 205 and still experiencing lower back back pain. My blood pressure is 110/70 to 120/80. No prior hart problems.
Do you think I should consider this image screening?
ve been on Vytorin 10/20 for years). Abnormal heart rhythm sent me to the emergency room. When cardiac was ruled out, the doc said my TSH was 20. What happened? I did not skip any doses except on Sundays. Did the Omega 3 mess up my TSH levels. Now it seems my meds are not even working.
Do you have one example of a drug that has inconsistent dosage in a generic form? I do speak with doctors on a regular basis and this has never come up and we have discussed this topic at length. I would rather have a drug that has been approved via a proper long term study that I can read than a natural drug that has no basis of fact that it is effective or safe.
We do agree that every individual needs to be a responsible patient and research what they are asked to take.
, 165 lbs, eat well (no red meat or pork, little dairy, etc), and active. My chol is excellent all around (thanks to 10mg of vytorin). Total chol was 215 before, 135 after. My dad had a heart attack at 49, second at 73, he is now 82.
I went for stress test and echo last week. Dr said stress was great but he saw a very small calcium deposit on lining of heart muscle, not near arteries. He was not overly concerned and said we just need to watch it during next year's test.
As my mother also has issues controling hers. He has prescribed Vytorin for me. I did do the full lipid panel and the HDL was 48 and LDL was above 150. I did check glucose level and it was ok.
I have been making great efforts to sticking to my diet. Oatmeal for breakfast and no beaf, pork or shellfish. Fish at least twice per week and lots of protein from beans. I rarely eat eggs.
As to exercise.
Flax seeds, whole, will just pass through your GI tract pretty much undisturbed.A lot has written about flaxseed oil but more has been validated with Fish Oil to really have a positive impact on lipids, heart, inflammation, eyes, GI and joints.I would recommend a prescription type Fish Oil to assure purity and consistency in dosage. Do you really need 8 glasses of water? You're probably swallowing quite a bit of air with that.
ve read some scary stuff about both. I also take Vytorin for cholesterol and fioricet for headaches and post-herpetic myalgia from shingles.
You can get t3 in a synthetic form (Cytomel) which can be added to your t4 regiment. This is good to try first before going with desiccated as the desiccated thyroid world can be difficult to manuver. (formula changes, availability, etc...). Also, magnesium has been a good suppliment for my daughter and has helped with aches and constipation and sleep if taken before bed. Psillium with lots of water (we used capsules) can also be of help to some with constipationt too).

I have diabetes well controlled by januvia. I take welchol as i developed rhabdomyolysis with vytorin. I had been also on plavix.
1. Is stenting the subclavian a frequent procedure?
2. How long will this stent stay in place?
3. If there is blocking again in the future of this stent what are the options?
However, just after my 80th I developed dizziness, which one cardiologist described as a form of vertigo.I have COPD after smoking until I was 68 but with very good lung capacity. There has been a MRI on the spine which detected an minor entrapment of nerves emerging from the spine which may account in part for the numbness but it varies. However, a constant is the woolly feeling of my head, something akin to cotton wool filling the brain space!
