It says increases in liver enzymes occur in 1.7 percent of people taking Vytorin. This increase appears to be more prevalent in people who are taking higher doses. It goes on to explain other causes of high liver enzymes.
Avatar m tn My doctor perscribed Vytorin 10/20. This is where my health began to deteriorate. I developed both clay soft stool and chronic explosive diarrhea in the mornings (3-4X before leaving the house) and excessive tiredness. At first I didnt put the two together, I just thought it was something I was eating or drinking so I continuously changed my diet. Nothing helped. I went back to the doctor for a 1 yr follow up and mentioned the diarrhea.

Avatar m tn Reading the many comments I came across one that stated lovastatin is an old medicine and is not used often. After recent cath my doctor changed my medication from vytorin ,have taken vytorin for 5 years, to lovastatin. I did ask for a cheaper medicine and lovastatin was what he came with. I have no problems or side effects . My question is lovastatin less effective then other of the same and if not why is it not used often. My engineering background comes out if I d not have proper data.
Avatar n tn I have IBS with diarrhea. My family doctor gave me Vytorin and it caused ONE HORRIBLE bout with the diarrea. So, my question is: Should people with IBS not take Vytorin? If the answer is: No,they shouldn't,then why do you think this side effect is not listed on the pamphlet that comes with the drug.....or any where else?!
Avatar f tn I have been on Vytorin for a few years and my insurance company will not pay for it anymore. My doctor has switched me to Simvastatin (40mg) daily. My question is has anyone else made the switch and have they noticed any side-effects?
Avatar f tn Fatigue and lethargy are side effects of atenolol, however, I do not see any information suggesting that muscle weakness is a side effect of atenolol. I see that you also take Vytorin. It appears that symptoms of ALS,( Lou Gehrig's Disease) have been reported to the FDA in a higher than expected number of patients taking statins. ALS is a progressive motor neuron disorder with symptoms such as difficulty walking or standing, difficulty with fine motor skills and muscle paralysis.
Avatar f tn Vytorin is a statin that lowers LDL and raises HDL. I believe Vytorin is a combination of Zetia and Zocor. I am not sure if the Vytorin will go with the Niaspam so you will need to ask your doctor that.
Avatar f tn i was taking vytorin and plavix when i was told i have cll .
Avatar m tn Someone suggested that I consider inner imaging screening (EBT Hart scan). I am on Lipitor and Vytorin, I was taken off of Benicar two months ago because of the back pain and an elevated CPK 200's. Recent blood test revealed my cholesterol at 118 but my CPK at 205 and still experiencing lower back back pain. My blood pressure is 110/70 to 120/80. No prior hart problems. Do you think I should consider this image screening?
645800 tn?1466860955 Been choking down 800mg gabapentins for a while now. They're scored; I could cut them in two, but they'd still be the same width, just half the length. They'd have rough corners then, too. Hey, Dennis, would they let you use Vytorin? It's worked super for my cholesterol. My insurance company puts it in the highest category, meaning I have to pay my highest copay rate, but it's still largely covered. No generic yet. Just a thought. Best wishes.
Avatar m tn , 165 lbs, eat well (no red meat or pork, little dairy, etc), and active. My chol is excellent all around (thanks to 10mg of vytorin). Total chol was 215 before, 135 after. My dad had a heart attack at 49, second at 73, he is now 82. I went for stress test and echo last week. Dr said stress was great but he saw a very small calcium deposit on lining of heart muscle, not near arteries. He was not overly concerned and said we just need to watch it during next year's test.
Avatar f tn ve been on Vytorin 10/20 for years). Abnormal heart rhythm sent me to the emergency room. When cardiac was ruled out, the doc said my TSH was 20. What happened? I did not skip any doses except on Sundays. Did the Omega 3 mess up my TSH levels. Now it seems my meds are not even working.
Avatar f tn As my mother also has issues controling hers. He has prescribed Vytorin for me. I did do the full lipid panel and the HDL was 48 and LDL was above 150. Avatar n tn Over the past 12 years or so I have taken Lipitor, Pravachol and, when 200mg total Cholesterol wasn't good enough anymore, Vytorin, which brought it down to 160. But, at the end of all that about two years ago I wound up in the ER with severe kidney problems. The doctors said, don't worry about it, just muscle pains and sent me home.
979831 tn?1250005950 One thing led to another and after a fine needle aspiration I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. 3.2cm non-contained papillary carcinoma. Complete thyroidectomy and full neck dissection followed then radioactive iodine and high-dose artifical thyroxine after that. Prior to the cancer I have no idea if I had any sort of thyroid problems as I was never tested but I would not be the least bit surprised if I did.
Avatar m tn You are on one of the more powerful statins so you can ask your doctor about Vytorin which is simple Simvastatin and Zetia which works both in the liver and in the digestive tract. Simvastatin is usually better tolerated than Lipitor. It would help to know what your LDL and HDL levels are as well, we could possibly give you a better answer.
Avatar n tn I have heard the rumors about the breast cancer and abortion link, which were claimed as myths by the American Cancer Society and other national organizations. I had an anti abortion activist explain the theory of the breast cancer link, and I was wondering if you could give me some insight into these claims. They explained the types of lobules and their development.
Avatar n tn Dementia, global amnesia, severe muscle weakness and possible breast cancer are some of the side effects reported, and there are many dr's who believe it is a last resort. Exercise is key, and I too have a hard time exercising because for every 30 min walk, it takes me 2 days to recover since I have osteoarthritis of the knees and feet and the back pain I get is intolerable.
Avatar m tn I have some Lipitor in the cabinet and my doc is going to put me on Vytorin in 11 days. I was trying to avoid a new Rx of Simva since I have a cupboard full of comparable meds and will be starting Vytorin soon. I can't get a hold of my doc for a week. Just wondering if anyone knew of any bad reactions, a required layoff before switching, etc. Thank you very much.
