Common Questions and Answers about Vytorin and ldl

vytorin

Avatar n tn I have IBS with diarrhea. My family doctor gave me Vytorin and it caused ONE HORRIBLE bout with the diarrea. So, my question is: Should people with IBS not take Vytorin? If the answer is: No,they shouldn't,then why do you think this side effect is not listed on the pamphlet that comes with the drug.....or any where else?!
Avatar f tn Coreg can make a person feel extremely tired and loss of energy. Coreg is the best beta blocker as it blocks more receptors than Tropol XL. There is a medication that is being used in Europe that hopefully will be here in the US soon. It is a combination of Coreg and Tropol XL, I believe. This gives all the benefits of Coreg and reduces the tiredness that people complain about. Our relatives in Europe use the medication and have energy to travel to US and all around the states.
Avatar n tn Statins cause a significant reduction in LDL cholesterol levels, a moderate reduction in triglyceride levels, and a small increase in levels of HDL cholesterol.
645800 tn?1466860955 Vytorin is a combination Ezetimibe and simvastatin and I'm currently taking simvastatin. My doctor is switching my medicine due to my leg cramps to see if that will help. All of the cholesterol "statin" medicines can cause muscle cramps. This one works in the gut to keep your body from getting the cholesterol into your body in the first place.
Avatar m tn Unfortunately, in cases where gentics play a role, statins are the first line of therapy. You can ask your doctor about a Fenofibrate, they work well on TGL's and lower one's overall total cholesterol, but are not as effective on LDL. You are on one of the more powerful statins so you can ask your doctor about Vytorin which is simple Simvastatin and Zetia which works both in the liver and in the digestive tract. Simvastatin is usually better tolerated than Lipitor.
Avatar m tn I used to have a high cholesterol and i have been taking Vytorin for the last 22 days and now my cholesterol is back to normal. However my SGOT increases to 56 and SGPT 100. Is Vytorin causes SGOT and SGPT to increase? Also, i have taken Anti hepatitis 2x. Does this have possibility to increase the SGOT and SGPT?
Avatar n tn As with many people, taking medication to lower cholesterol seems to do them both, LDL and HDL. It isn't easy to get HDL raised and it has been reported that the following can help. Exercise. but this must be aerobic gentle exercising, not exhausting marathons etc. It is important to note the length of exercise is more important than the intensity. Certain foods, especially fibre helps many people. oats, fruits, vegetables, and legumes, at least 2 helpings a day.
Avatar m tn Your LDL level suggests a high fat diet and/or familial high cholesterol. A drug like Vytorin controls both these types of cholesterol, at least it did in my case. I had levels like that and tried through diet alone to control my cholesterol and ended up with lots of heart trouble. Also, the retinopathy diagnosis is disturbing. It can be caused by diabetes but from high blood pressure as well.
Avatar f tn The recommended treatment (assuming the condition is asymptomatic as mine is) is to take an aspirin a day and to bring ldl cholesterol down below 100 and lose weight. I take vitorin daily which has lowered my total cholesterol from 220 down to 104 (ldl is 41). As for losing weight, it is possible if you are motivated.
Avatar m tn I am currently on my 4th statin med since last fall to lower my LDL. I have had some intense muscle and joint pain in the past, which is why my doctor has been changing my statin type and dosage. We're trying to find the right combo. I have a history of CAD and PAD, have had a femoral stent, and am a smoker.(59 yo male, btw). Does anyone know if I can substitute 20 mg Lipitor for my 20 mg Simvastatin, which I just ran out of?
439464 tn?1213827634 s a wise choice. They started me on meds (Vytorin) when I was 47 and my TC was 219, my LDL was 134 and my HDL was 39. The meds, along with life changes, worked great. My TC as of last fall was 151, LDL 58 and HDL 40, but my TRI's are still a bit high.
Avatar m tn He took me off the Vytorin and put me on Zocor with same results. After stopping all meds and getting a colonoscopy and blood tests nothing was found. He now states I have IBS and put me on SSRI Citalopram. HELP! This discussion is related to Possible side effect of Lipitor and Vytorin on Liver / Body.
Avatar f tn I do not think that Statin drugs directly cause Afib, but from my own experience - and I had been on Statins for many years before they discovered my RBBB and an excessive amount of PACs and PVCs - I am convinced that they are the cause of this. Why? While on Statins I had severe Rhabdomyolysis affecting basically my whole body. After a trip to the ER, because of severe pain in my kidney area, they could not find a cause for this and sent me home with an injection of Dilaudid.
1846163 tn?1331048748 I am cures Ty on Vytorin and will be starting therapy soon, I have read that someone on a cholesterol lowering drug should not be on this drug. Can you tell me why?
Avatar f tn i was taking vytorin and plavix when i was told i have cll .
Avatar n tn ve never seen research that showed that fish oil reduced LDL cholesterol, but it seems to raise HDL (good cholesterol) and reduces Trigs. Probably more importantly, fish oil seems to reduce the inflammation of the arteries that can cause blood clots. From what I've read, two grams a day is a recommended dosage. Joan is right, be careful where you buy the fish oil. Pika's suggestion to raise HDL is very, very important.
Avatar n tn s worth noting that niacin also decreases your LDL and triglyceride levels. High levels of LDL and triglycerides are significant risk factors for heart disease."...
Avatar n tn You should discuss your numbers with your doctor as lifestyle changes alone may not be enough to lower your LDL by itself. However, if you cut as much processed foods and empty carbs out of your diet and try to stay with low fat, low cholesterol food including fruits and veggies, less red meat more fish, you may be able to bring it down some. You can also consider increasing your exercise but only do so after discussing it with your doctor.
Avatar f tn I did talk to doctor last week and he told me to stop Vytorin right away and changed my cholesterol medicine to something else. What you suggest is quite scary as I had a friend who passed away due to Lou Gerig's disesase few years ago. Could taking Vytorin alone cause me to actually develop the disease or just to show the symptoms?
Avatar m tn Reading the many comments I came across one that stated lovastatin is an old medicine and is not used often. After recent cath my doctor changed my medication from vytorin ,have taken vytorin for 5 years, to lovastatin. I did ask for a cheaper medicine and lovastatin was what he came with. I have no problems or side effects . My question is lovastatin less effective then other of the same and if not why is it not used often. My engineering background comes out if I d not have proper data.
Avatar f tn I have been on Vytorin for a few years and my insurance company will not pay for it anymore. My doctor has switched me to Simvastatin (40mg) daily. My question is has anyone else made the switch and have they noticed any side-effects?
Avatar m tn First, why are you taking Lipitor and Vytorin? Those are both "statins" and should never be taken together. You should stop one of these immediately. If you have had elevated CPK's it could be due to the statin and it is questionable whether you should be on one at all. Stop both of those medications and see your doctor immediately--bring your pill bottles. You need to get your medications straight before considering any testing.
Avatar f tn I had a triple bypass in April 05, and like you I have part of my leg in my chest now. I can't really say how long they will last, but I'm not doing to bad. My EF has improved quite a bit and I would probably be doing even better if I exercised (as everyone around me recommends). Prior to my surgery, my 'bad' cholesterol number was 169. I'm not sure what the rest of the numbers were. I started on Litptor but it made me itch - not too good with the blood thinners...
Avatar n tn I have been on it for over 4 years now - and it works fine ! both hdl and ldl levels are lowered - it took about 5 months to see results happen. it works good for most people. however beware some will say it does not work good - Doctors dont like it ! as they like to push the crestor and other brands of cholesterol lowering meds at us all. its $$$ for them !! and we get the side effects for free ! by the way I dont sell Res Q products.. I only use them as they are 100% pure .
Avatar m tn s history and my LDL and Tyglcerides, I am terrified. I have a realtor key on my court yard that only the police and EMTs have the code to. I do not even know it. Can you offer any advice...............is my left arm a sign? Are the muscle pains something to worry about? Am I following in my father's footsteps?
