Valtrex while breastfeeding

Common Questions and Answers about Valtrex while breastfeeding

valtrex

Avatar f tn The problem sounds more like its related to breastfeeding. It's not uncommon for breastfeeding mothers to have issues. It may have something to do with your Montgomery glands or a blocked milk duct.
Avatar n tn you can breast feed your child while on suppressive therapy. it's a non-issue. they get far less active acyclovir while breast feeding than they do if we gave them IV acyclovir to treat infection. Both la leche league and the american academy of pediatrics have ok'd it. if you are going to bother to take suppressive therapy during pregnancy, make sure it is the 500mg twice a day dose. you need the higher doses during pregnancy because of the natural immunosuppression of the body.
Avatar f tn My obgyn told me it was ok to take the Valtrex during pregnancy but we never discussed breastfeeding. Thanks for your previous answers. They were helpful.
Avatar f tn Well I've been on 1 mg per day since Oct because I'm so paranoid about an outbreak. The past 2 or 3 weeks I've felt occassional tingling on my upper lip and in the one spot that is right above my pubic bone. And the past 1 1/2 to 2 weeks I feel like my lymph node on pelvis occassionally flares up and I seem to feel a bit of pain that stays at the top of my thigh. I also feel like my breasts are also getting that flare up a little.
803834 tn?1286565337 Just wondering if anyone out there has taken Valtrex daily while pregnant??? My Dr. told me at my 1st visit that it was ok to take...also mentioned some women chose to just take during outbreaks instead of daily while pregnant, but it was up to me....just wondering!!!!!!?????
Avatar f tn My doctor told me to stop taking Valtrex for a while to let my liver regenerate. While I think Valtrex is an excellent drug for treating HSV 2, I think users should take into consideration that long term use can cause some mild to moderate damage to the liver as my tests have proven. Also, anyone using Valtrex should not drink ANY alcohol while on it because it will exacerbate the problem with your liver. I'm hoping in a few weeks my liver tests go back to normal.
Avatar f tn I just excepted that the results without any followup testing. I started taking daily Valtrex 500mg per day to avoid giving it to my girlfriend. I never had any symptoms or outbreaks. My girlfriend at the time got tested twice and both times came back inconclusive. I recently got recheck and my results came back negative (igG <0.92). I have read online that Valtrex can result in false negative test early in the infection process. My question.
Avatar f tn I got Valtrex and its gone now, but my period must come any time and I am scared to get it again as I am still breastfeeding and dont want to take Valtrex again. Anyone has some experience with it? Is it very bad for the baby? I started to read about herpes genitales and found out that you can transmit it also without sores and even the condom doesnt help. So I dont dare to have sex with my husband any more. We are together for 7 years and he has nothing.
Avatar n tn Hi Ive been living with herpes for about six months now and I take valtrex daily. This is my first cold I have had while having genital herpes. I noticed a bit of tingling in my penis and frequent non painful urination. I was wondering if this was a possible small outbreak or anybody else has experiened this thank you?
408496 tn?1269603350 If you are having a period while you are breastfeeding then you can TTC as usual. I was breastfeeding and had two very light period didn't think much of them and got pregnant again. My two youngest will be 14 months apart!
Avatar f tn I just talked to my midwife about breastfeeding while pregnant this morning and she said it is perfectly fine. She said people who don't know the facts think you need to stop, but that is not true. Personally I am breastfeeding my 22 month old and I am 14 weeks pregnant. If she doesn't self wean I'll be tandem nursing them in March! Good for you to be educating yourself and not just doing what others say. You are being a fantastic Mom and meeting the needs of both babies!
Avatar m tn I actually did not have breakouts during my pregnancy (they had decreased in number considerably as I entered adulthood), but after he was born/while I was breastfeeding, I was having outbreaks practically one on top of the other (likely exacerbated by some dental work I had done, along with hormonal fluctuations, stress, and lack of sleep). Anyhow, at the prompting of several doctors who cared for my son, I went on the suppressive therapy.
3930380 tn?1357887113 You can definitely get pregnant while breastfeeding. It being a birth control is a common misconception. However I have had very unregular periods after having kiddos. And before mine were always clock work.
1712422 tn?1443337501 All u can take while breastfeeding is ibuprofen u can't take tylenol. It's weird cause while ur prego all u can have is tylenol and while breastfeeding all I can take is ibuprofen funny huh.
192291 tn?1345400135 It is possible. But also remember that Breastfeeding can delay your period also.....
561393 tn?1320962815 typically it is just fine for you to continue breastfeeding while pregnant, you may need to take extra vitamins and up you calorie intake even more than a typical pregnant women, so you can provide for both. since you do have history of MC I would definitely talk with your Dr as he or she may want to keep a close eye on your iron levels and any other levels that maybe effected by breastfeeding!
Avatar n tn I found a lump on my right breast while breastfeeding my 8 months old baby. I went for a mammogram and the doctor told me to stop breastfeeding in order to do the biopsy. I breastfed all my babies and having problem giving the bottle to the baby. If I can, I never wants to give a formula to my baby. On top of that she is allergic to milk and soy . Any advice? Thanks.
1209036 tn?1299178657 To answer your question, YES it is perfectly safe to go on birth control pills while breastfeeding, HOWEVER, you can not take pills that contain estrogen. There are pills call "mini-pills" or "pops" (progesterone only pills) such as camilla and micronor that are considered safe during breastfeeding. Ask your doctor about it. Some docs will give you a script straight out of the hospital, others will make you wait until you have your 6 week post partum check up.
Avatar f tn Hansfield for your reply. I am also concerned about breastfeeding and taking the Valtrex. How would it affect the baby? Thank you again.
Avatar m tn I am having a really bad cold sore outbreak (getting one right after the other), so I finally asked my doctor for Valtrex. He prescribed 1000 mg a day for 7 days to clear it all up. I am looking online though, and it looks like the normal dosage is 2000 mg a day, twice a day, for one day. I am confused, and the doctor's office will be closed until Monday. Anyone know anything about the dosage I was given and if it will be effective?
Avatar f tn They are similar medications, but something in the Valtrex seems to affect people different than the acyclovir. The Valtrex doesn't seem to be working anyway. Was your partner tested by PCR swab and it came back positive for type 1? If that's the case, then yes, it seems like she got hsv1 genitally via oral sex. Small bumps and redness doesn't sound like herpes. That could be anything from irritation to an allergic reaction to something, eczema, dermatitis, etc., etc.
Avatar f tn I'm curious to know if anyone has transmitted HSV2 while on Valtrex daily? I'd also like to hear from people who have stayed on Valtrex daily and their partner has remained infection free.
997993 tn?1290751148 But not all women can become pregnant while breastfeeding. Some can with no problem, but not all. I did extensive research on this a while back because I wanted to get pregnant again. Anyway, for some women it is easy to do without any problems. Some women have too low hormone levels to sustain a pregnancy. I know that is the case for me. I have timed things right for the past 3 months and not gotten pregnant. I know my body very well, as I have tempt my BBT.
2006603 tn?1331329327 Watch the high fructose corn syrup, though. There are the equivalent of something like 12 teaspoons of sugar in one can of soda.
