My Dr. wrote a prescription for 1gm daily pill of Valtrex. I already have stomach problems and am trying to minimize potential side effects with highest drug efficacy. Seems logical to take 2 pills at 500mg/pill instead.
Would this reduce stomach upset and/or improve absorption of drug? Thx in advance.

I am a woman with HSV 2 and I have had the virus for about 12 years. I rarely have OBs (I cannot remember the last time I had one).
I am dating an absolutely fantastic guy and I'd really like to keep him HSV-free. We've discussed my status and I've relayed to him that the transmission stats of my passing the virus to him are about 4% per year with avoiding sex during OBs, about 2% per year with Valtrex and down to 1% if I am on Valtrex and we use a condom.
I've checked two local pharmacies and online. Blue Shield's price for Valtrex is $175.00 vs. Acyclovir at $10.00 per perscription. Tell me the manufacturers aren't trying to gouge us. This is a drug that's been on the market for decades, millions of people take it regularly, it has no adverse effects that I've found and there is no reason to pay that much for something used that widely and that often.
Now being on the pill I am scared to have anything with nuts in it and its driving me crazy worrying about what I eat. Will being on the pill stop these triggers?? I am on Valtrax 1 gram a day. Thanks.
m on daily suppressive therapy of 1000 mg of Valtrex/Valacyclovir, even with that, it seems I still get outbreaks, every month, the first week after my period.
Questions:
1) Is it reasonable to get regular monthly outbreaks while on suppressive therapy? Should I consider asking to up my daily dose? Or perhaps, knowing the pattern, should I just increase it at the end of my cycle? If so, starting when and how much?
I have HSV2, been taking Acyclovir 400mg 2x daily for suppression for a while now. Recently decided to switch to Valtrex 1g once a day, because 1 pill is more convenient and also I hear valtrex suppresses shedding and transmission in general better. I'd like to hear others opinion on the differences of both. Thanks!

Because of my symtoms and my extreme depression the doctor agreed to put me on Valtrex before the results came back.
I stayed on it as supressive because the test results took a long time to come back almost a month. When the doctor told me it was HSV-! and not HSV-2 I went off the Valtrex and feel the symptoms returning. I should also mention I haven`t had any sexual relations of any kind for about 3 years but I do realize it can stay dormant in your body.

When ever I would miss a pill I start feeling the sensation which I felt when I was going to get an outbreak. I would keep taking it for 5 years. so i went to planned parenthood today (Mon) . the doc there said it seems like a yeast infection but she did another swab test anyway.
my question since i'd been talking valtrex for a day (Sun) , would it confuses my new swab test?
I have had genital herpes for over 12 years. Very few outbreaks - due to valtrex and some...ability to deal with stress. Now that I am under more stress and fibromyalgia/asthma, I am finding that I have had more outbreaks than I would like! Valtrex does help, but what I would really be interested in is something that is topical like an ointment, oil, etc... that can be applied directly to the genitals in order to relieve the itching/burning, etc...
I have only i bump on the side of the top of the crack of my butt,dr did a culture called me told me its herpes simplex virus and told me to take valtrex i took 1 pill last night and this morning i feel kinda wierd like my right eye is all messed up and side of my face feels burning i also feel nauseated and very dizzy.im afraid to take more of the med as im home alone,i have bad anxiety..
I recently had a sexual encounter with a woman who told me she had herpes and said she was on daily valtrex right after we finished up. I think she trusts valtrex more than I do. I immediately regret this decision. I gave her oral sex, and our genitals did touch but there was no penetration. Anyway I haven't had any symptoms, but have read so much contradictory information that it is very difficult to figure things out.

I'm curious to know if anyone has transmitted HSV2 while on Valtrex daily? I'd also like to hear from people who have stayed on Valtrex daily and their partner has remained infection free.
hello dr. I was wondering if taking valtrex will affect the accuracy a negative hiv test maybe if a person was inffected while taking a pill a day. Can taking valtrax since it's an antivirol maybe stop it from reproducing and then when we stop the medication it can show?

Ok if i took Valtrex once a day how many millagrams? If I take a medication every day of my life would the virus just get use to it and the suppressive theropy not be as effective??
Second outbreak, lesions were gone with 48 hours as I got to take my valtrex when I got the tingle and used the cream. Third outbreak.....valtrex with the tingle and no lesions.
Talk to me about how severe this case is?

Caught it from previous partner who had it for ten years and no outbreaks in the last 12 months.
The next day I saw a doctor and got a prescription for Valtrex. I took 1000mg about every 4 hours for 24 hours hoping it might work like a morning after pill. I have now cut back to 1000mg every 12 hours. She said that she was clean and that she has to be tested every 30 days to work there, but that is no guarantee. I am really worried about the possibility of contracting herpes and I know I should get tested, but will the Valtrex affect the results?
