hello dr. I was wondering if taking valtrex will affect the accuracy a negative hiv test maybe if a person was inffected while taking a pill a day. Can taking valtrax since it's an antivirol maybe stop it from reproducing and then when we stop the medication it can show?

Also as a fyi - valtrex will be going generic in december of this year. It should be going down in price then so if you find that taking medication 2x/day is too hard to remember - check back with your pharmacist next january to see if the price has come down a lot more for you or not with valtrex.

the dose you listed is valtrex, not acyclovir. check the bottle to be sure of what medication you really are taking.
if you are on daily suppressive therapy, use condoms and avoid sex anytime you have anything going on genitally, a male partner is 99% likely each year NOT to contract hsv2 from you. to give you something to compare it to, if you only used the pill for birth control, you are only 92% likely each year not to become pregnant.
Afterward I immediately cleaned this area with a disinfectant (used to clean the shower) and washed the area in the shower. The next day I saw a doctor and got a prescription for Valtrex. I took 1000mg about every 4 hours for 24 hours hoping it might work like a morning after pill. I have now cut back to 1000mg every 12 hours. She said that she was clean and that she has to be tested every 30 days to work there, but that is no guarantee.
Second outbreak, lesions were gone with 48 hours as I got to take my valtrex when I got the tingle and used the cream. Third outbreak.....valtrex with the tingle and no lesions.

they are targeting cancer cells with nano-particles that are attracted to the cancer. once it has attached to the cell, they direct radiation toward the tumor and the nano-particles then heat up and kill the cancer. i would think something like this could be done with herpes. it doesn't have to be that hot, just enough to destroy the envelope.
I don't know whether this is related, but Kaiser has switched sources for generic acyclovir twice in the last few months. And that's after buying from the same manufacturer for many years.
Worse, the stuff I'm getting now does not work as well. How can I know whether the capsules I'm getting contain the full 200mg? No one will run a test like that without charging a fortune, and things being the way they are, I wouldn't have confidence in the result anyway.
I have HSV2, been taking Acyclovir 400mg 2x daily for suppression for a while now. Recently decided to switch to Valtrex 1g once a day, because 1 pill is more convenient and also I hear valtrex suppresses shedding and transmission in general better. I'd like to hear others opinion on the differences of both. Thanks!
No she has to take it everyday. do you only see each other very infrequently like once every few months or something? It takes at least 5 days to "kick in". In the valtrex and transmission study - about 3/4's of the folks who transmitted hsv2 to their partners - weren't taking their valtrex every single day. If you factor those folks out - the risk of transmission is even lower.
ve known that I had it for almost 2 years). My doctor prescribed me with generic Valtrex and to take 2 pills when I feel even a slight tingling or what I suspect to be an outbreak. I've had sex with a man 3 times since being diagnosed. All 3 times we used a condom before any penis to vagina contact was made AND I took a Valtrex pill before intercourse.

My story is I contracted HSV2 on the back of my left thigh in the late 1990's not sure where, but it breakout once a year during summer months one time a year. While it was annoying I didn't take anything during the late 2000's I somehow transferred it to my face (confirmed by swab). I didn't want it there so I started to take Valacyclovir it would keep breaking out every month or so I went on a daily maintenance of 500mg a day.
I have only i bump on the side of the top of the crack of my butt,dr did a culture called me told me its herpes simplex virus and told me to take valtrex i took 1 pill last night and this morning i feel kinda wierd like my right eye is all messed up and side of my face feels burning i also feel nauseated and very dizzy.im afraid to take more of the med as im home alone,i have bad anxiety..
