If I were you I'd seek out an MS specialist who can sort out some of the muddled feedback you are currently getting. I would think that a reasonably qualified radiologist should be able to tell demyelinating disease from micro vascular disease, both of which can cause some of the symptoms you describe.
As to herpes 2 and MS, I have both and have never seen an interaction.
Today (11/21/2013) had an MRI done, got it on a disc and took it straight up to my docs office and we sat and reviewed it. Looks like my MS, remind you I just got diagnosed August this year with symptoms starting in June of this year, has become aggressive and my MRI showed a lot of signals in my spinal cord. So now he wants to take me off of the Copaxone, I have been on for a month and a half, and put me on Tysabri.
Just want to add that although IV steroids are often used for MS flares, that's not their only use. Since this is an MS forum of members who either have a diagnosis of MS or are in process of being evaluated for it, we really are not knowledgeable about other kinds of symptoms.
If I were you I'd take mom to an ER, where she can get, we hope, much quicker relief.
most folks who do, experience it initially when diagnosed and go on valtrex and are incredibly stressed. for most , it does come back. I do know of less than a handful of folks who experienced hair loss while on valtrex, they could find no other cause for it and even after stopping the valtrex the hair loss did not stop.
at this point continue to follow up on this with the dermatologist. they are your best bet.
I used acyclovir, and I believe it was 4 days I was given a one day treatment of Valtrex. 4 pills 2 times in one day, in all 8 pills. I can't remember what size they were. My blisters have improved dramatically, and the swelling in my lip seems to have completely subsided. My question is this. After having taken the valtrex, am I know much less contagious? Let me be more clear. When I look at my lips closely, I see what I think could be remaining small blisters.
acyclovir is 400mg 2x/day every single day. she will still get recurrences while on daily suppressive therapy regardless of if she's on acyclovir or valtrex, you just take acyclovir more often than you do valtrex.
After I posted this I talked to the hospital doc about my negativ test result. She didnt think Valtrex had interferred with the results. I have had "herpes symptoms" four months, taking Valtrex last four weeks.
Maybe I could have a new test taken in a couple of weeks when my system is clear of Valtrex? Just to be on the safe side?
Just no it is all too confusing. One doc says: HERPES! The other says: no this is not herpes.
Thanks for the reply. Well if valtrex doesnt affect the results,wouldnt 55days be enough for conclusion? As doctors say 6weeks is quite enough for antihiv tests except cemotherapy patients?
I took Vatlrex 500mg twice daily for 20 days. While on Valtrex I had tingling and itchy sensations on my face. Stopped taking Valtrex because it cause burning patches around my mouth.
After I stopped taking the medication I've develop more symptoms. Is this a side effect from the medication or is because of the Herpes Virus? I've had tingling, itching on my face. Twitching in my legs,arms and body, Heat sensations in the lower part of both legs.
My mri showed one white spot 3mm in frontal lobe. Explanations include migraine and least likely MS. Now I am worried about MS since in 1996 I had a period of about 7 months after my daughter was born of weird neurological symptoms such as shaking, headaches, urinary urgency in middle of night, decreased vision in one eye (eye doc said not optic neuritis), brain fog, trembling. Had mri in 2001 and 2008 for various reasons and both were clean. Should I even be thinking of MS?
Finally I broke down and in seeking relief on four ocassions and took 2000 mgs of Valtrex and awoke syptom free only to have the symptoms return the following evening. It seemed to help for a short period. Since I had nearly nine months straight without suppressive therapy would it be OK to take the WB now? It has been 26 months since the initial episode. In total I have had at least 11 months without suppressive therapy which includes the first nine months of possible infection.
If I stop it for a week do I wait to see if symptoms persist? If not begin again, or ask my doctor for an alternative? If so what should I be asking for and are they as effective as Valtrex?

I have been taking Valtrex regularly for 2 months and I have been taking 1 gram of Valtrex steadily for 2 weeks, and it is not going away. Valtrex has always worked quickly when I have had outbreaks in the past. The symptoms of this lesion (itchiness or soreness) come and go. What could be causing this? Could it be something other than herpes? Could the Valtrex be harmful to my baby? I go to the doctor again, soon, but want to be armed with all the inform. I can.
I recently was diagnosed with Herpes I've yet to go get a blood test done but I was put on Valtrex. I was so scared that I went and bout an Oraquick test I tested negative, two days later I still couldn't get it out of my mind and went and got two more tests while on Valtrex and all three said Negative. I know this question is asked over and over but, are my test conclusive even on Valtrex? My last exposure was 9 months ago if that wasn't clarified?
ve been taking 500mg of Valtrex every night and plan to do so for the next year to year and a half as suggested by my doctor. I have had no other outbreaks since the first one. My doctor explained to me that taking Valtrex on a regimen would help the virus become dormant. I was wondering what that meant specifically in terms of my likelihood of transmitting the virus to sexual partners with or without condoms.

In the beginning of January, I had my first cold sore on my upper lip. I tried Abreva and it eventually went away after a week or so. About 7 weeks ago, I got a second cold sore at a different location. Since that date, and for every week following, I'd have a new sore appear as the old one was healing/gone....every 4-5 days almost like clockwork with no breaks in between. They rarely overlap in time frame (I think once?).
when I had the same symptoms; however my neurologist at the time sent me to an MS specialist and she said that I didn't have it. I don't go to a neurologist anymore. I do wonder if zovarax or valtrex may stop those symptoms as it is very difficult to work with them. Someone else also said what you said. The fact that 2 people have told me this makes me believe it is possible.
A similar study was done in about 1988 with 83 people with MS and 166 without MS. Again the seropositivity in the ms group was 100% and that in the nonMS group was about 95% (statistically significant). The MS group again had much higher titers on the earlier blood samples.
They have also looked at it another way. It is unusual in MS to be negative for EBV antibodies.
HSV-1 is less susceptible to Valtrex and related drugs, so the necessary dose is unknown and might be higher than for HSV-2. Also, asymptomatic shedding is less common with oral HSV-1 than genital HSV-2. Finally, the main strategy for protecting your partner probably should be for him or her to be tested for HSV-1. There is a 50-50 chance of a positive result, in which case s/he is not susceptible and you need take no precautions at all.

Since finding out I've contracted Herpes the area around my vagina has been swollen and I've also had a lot of bleeding which has been like a heavy period and lasted well over a week, nearly 2. I took Valtrex which stopped the bleeding so I assumed it was related to Herpes. But I have just finished a course of Valtrex and am bleeding again. At first I assumed it was my period but it's been heavy bleeding for a good few days now. I am also very itchy.
