I have been on valtrex for suppression of hsv 2 for 16yrs and continue to have outbreaks almost monthly. Sores in vaginal area are less noticeable but other symptoms such as fatigue, headache, swollen glands, back pain still persist. My husband and I both have an outbreak every time we have sex which is ruining our sex life. Long term effects of valtrex use is unknown outside of possible renal/liver imparement & I'm just not sure if I should continue taking it.
I also have the condition of genital herpes for about 5 years now and hsv1 since I was a child, and some times I take valtrex madication due to many episodes. Now im taking 1 gm per day .
Im very worry, do hives are due to valtrex? or
emotion(I am very emotional and a worrier)
hives and cyst are allergy reactions to valtrex or
symptoms of a serious infection like hiv or hepatitis, etc
what could be happening???
Last Wednesday I started feeling mild prodome symptoms just near my vagina but never developed a lesion (tingling and mild shooting pains on thigh, mild headache and fatigue but NO swollen glands). This is in spite of suppression therapy I've taken since week 36. My OB is aware of the issue. Almost a week later, I still feel a mild sensitivity in the area but there were never lesions or other visible symptoms. I am due for an induction in four days.
( SHOWED SLIGHTLY ENLARGED PITUITARY) OTHER WISE FINE. . THIS LAST VISIT WITH DR. I STILL COMPLAINED ABOUT FATIGUE. AND SHE SAID LETS TRY VALTREX.(WHICH IS FOR VIRAL HERPES WHICH I DO NOT HAVE. SHE SAID IT MIGHT BE YOUR EPSTEIN BARR VIRUS WHICH I WAS POSITIVE FOR BUT SO IS 95 % OF PEOPLE. AND VALTREX IS ANTI VIRAL
I AM HESITANT TO TAKE . I DON'T THINK IT IS THE ANSWER . CAN YOU ADVISE.
Exposed to HSV 1&2 two weeks ago, been on Doxycycline for 10 days and Valtrex for 5 days. About noon yesterday, my lips started to swell, inside mouth flesh too, looks red and irritated. Is this par for herpes BO?
One note, after reading online, learned pineapple could cause some issues. I did eat pineapple about 7 AM yesterday morning and it burned like crazy, never experienced that before.
Wondering what's happening?
I believe someone gave it to me on purpose and I know who it is, what should I do?
most folks who do, experience it initially when diagnosed and go on valtrex and are incredibly stressed. for most , it does come back. I do know of less than a handful of folks who experienced hair loss while on valtrex, they could find no other cause for it and even after stopping the valtrex the hair loss did not stop.
at this point continue to follow up on this with the dermatologist. they are your best bet.
acyclovir is 400mg 2x/day every single day. she will still get recurrences while on daily suppressive therapy regardless of if she's on acyclovir or valtrex, you just take acyclovir more often than you do valtrex.
2 days after starting the Valtrex my symptoms escalated.I had intense pain and burning, no itching or lesions anywhere, and no sign of fever or fatigue. I went back and a full culture smear as well as STD panel was run for trich, gonn, even yeast, all negative.She prescribed Flagyl for the swelling in my vagina & vulva area.I took this medication for 3 days and due to nasty side effects discontinued.
After I posted this I talked to the hospital doc about my negativ test result. She didnt think Valtrex had interferred with the results. I have had "herpes symptoms" four months, taking Valtrex last four weeks.
Maybe I could have a new test taken in a couple of weeks when my system is clear of Valtrex? Just to be on the safe side?
Just no it is all too confusing. One doc says: HERPES! The other says: no this is not herpes.
Thanks for the reply. Well if valtrex doesnt affect the results,wouldnt 55days be enough for conclusion? As doctors say 6weeks is quite enough for antihiv tests except cemotherapy patients?
I am already diagnosed with HSV-2 and take Valacyclovir (Valtrex) 500mg daily. After some reading online, it seems that this medication may delay the HIV seroconversion. Does this mean that HIV symptoms would also be delayed or minimized?
I understand that I will not be sure until I take an HIV test, but I am hoping for some peace of mind until I get tested at the 3 month mark.
I too had side effects such as fatigue, extreme selectivity to taste and smell and aggression and then other side effects appeared on my second round of antiviral that were not classified as side effects by my doctor, but stopped once I was off Valtrex after 7 days. These other side effects were memory loss and cognitive difficulty, slurring speech, liver pain, and momentary "blips" or blackouts.These disappeared within a few days of being off the antiviral.
Finally I broke down and in seeking relief on four ocassions and took 2000 mgs of Valtrex and awoke syptom free only to have the symptoms return the following evening. It seemed to help for a short period. Since I had nearly nine months straight without suppressive therapy would it be OK to take the WB now? It has been 26 months since the initial episode. In total I have had at least 11 months without suppressive therapy which includes the first nine months of possible infection.
If I stop it for a week do I wait to see if symptoms persist? If not begin again, or ask my doctor for an alternative? If so what should I be asking for and are they as effective as Valtrex?

I am really worrying that I have contracted disseminated, drug-resistant herpes, including ocular herpes and herpes encephalitis, and don’t know what to do. I am currently still taking Valtrex 1g twice a day, but feeling that it’s not working. I am considering increasing it to 2g twice a day again, which seems the only way that helps. Meanwhile, I am concerned that this may cause further drug resistant. What should I do now? Please advice and help!!!
I have been taking Valtrex regularly for 2 months and I have been taking 1 gram of Valtrex steadily for 2 weeks, and it is not going away. Valtrex has always worked quickly when I have had outbreaks in the past. The symptoms of this lesion (itchiness or soreness) come and go. What could be causing this? Could it be something other than herpes? Could the Valtrex be harmful to my baby? I go to the doctor again, soon, but want to be armed with all the inform. I can.
I recently was diagnosed with Herpes I've yet to go get a blood test done but I was put on Valtrex. I was so scared that I went and bout an Oraquick test I tested negative, two days later I still couldn't get it out of my mind and went and got two more tests while on Valtrex and all three said Negative. I know this question is asked over and over but, are my test conclusive even on Valtrex? My last exposure was 9 months ago if that wasn't clarified?
I have been off the Valtrex for 5 weeks and going into week 8 since exposure and am going crazy with worry! I just have to ask about all the people that have no sores or lesions. Is that really true? I went back to the PP Clinic Dr. for the continued left side vaginal burning and my legs are always feeling numb and tingling and she said herpes almost always presents with multiple painful sores?? Also I have had this brown discharge and different odor than I have ever had and the Dr.
