Me and my girlfriend both have Genital Herpes, outbreaks are very rare and we have learned to live with it. About a week ago she had what looked to be like a acne breakout on her chin mabey 5 little bumps. I would say acne but the area was red, and they would scap over with like a clearish yellow scab. Now a week later the area is almost healed and gone. Just after her so called acne breakout, I had something on my upper chin just below my lower lip.
However, it is well documented that valtrex and acyclovir perform very similarly. Valtrex is actually converted into acyclovir by the liver, so essentially, the two drugs act the same way in the body to suppress the virus. If acyclovir improves your quality of life, I would stick with it and explain the similarities to your partner - they are well documented and I expect you can find information in scholarly journals that supports the suppressive activity of acyclovir.
The initial outbreak was horrible and very painful. After the diagnosis my doctor put me on Valtrex 500mg daily for 3 months, I didn't have any recurrent OBs during that time. I stopped taking the Valtrex end of February and just a few days ago I developed lots of itching and seem to have only one blister right at the entrance of my vagina again. This seemed to happen just a couple days after i went in for my pap smear.
ve had about 4 since that time and recently I had a small acne breakout on my chin (which is not normal for me)...over the past week it spread almost like a rash, but it resembles the cluster of blisters I'd had on my lip. Is it possible that this could be Herpes? It's small leaking blisters and itch like crazy. I'm very embarrased and am having a little anxiety about it. I don't have anything on my lip and haven't had a cold sore for about a year and a half.
I saw my primary that afternoon and he did not see any signs of anything but gave me a 7 day dose of Valtrex to help ease my mind and potentially blunt an infection he said. Day 4 i noticed a pimple like spot in my pubic area (i have had spots in that area before) i popped it and put acne cream on it and it has almost completely gone away. I got results back from a full panel STD test including Igg for HSV 1&2 and everything was negative.
I went to the doctor who upon visual exam diagnosed herpes. With a prescription of Valtrex I went on my way thinking I had genital HSV2. He also prescribed me an oral antibiotic for acne which I took at the same time. The sores went away within a week to 10 days. To identify when I was exposed I got tested with LabCorp about 6 weeks after the encounter - results IgG HSV1 positive, HSV2 negative. I have had cold sores since childhood, so the HSV1 result was not a surprise.
My doctor looked at me about a day after I noticed a pimple looking bump on my penis. She gave me acne cream and I used it for two days. I started to realize a larger redder area around the initial spot, first I thought the cream was burning me a little, and then I did my anxiety-fueled internet research. Called the doctor back, and she prescribed Valtrex. I've been taking it for two days and I'm still extremely itchy. Thankfully, my sore is healing up after about a week and a half.
They are very itchy and there is no liquid oozing out or if squeezed any debris coming out like with acne. I saw my dermatologist in Febuary to discuss with her and she said it was acne even though I was put on accutane, during that time which cleared up my face nicely. The thing with this rash is that it itches like crazy and its not going away with retin-A or an itch reliever cream like elcolm all given to me by my derm. I am running out of solutions.
I live a very healthy lifestyle, eat well, exercise, and live pretty much stress free. I have been on supressive therapy, but do not take valtrex like I should. In other words, I dont take it everyday. I'll pop a pill everytime I feel a little tingle.. or slight itch.
Anyway my questions are:
1) what are the chances of being infected orally and not gentially with hsv 2? What are my chances of being infected with hsv 2 in both places.
Doctors Hook & Handsfield, I have what seems to be a very stubborn & problematic issue with HSV2 on my face. I am going to start with a timeline of what has happened and my symptoms.12/15/12 – Most likely exposed to HSV2 virus on face & mouth via oral sex in a careless moment with wife of 20 years. My wife & I both have Genital HSV2. We have never had symptoms on our face.
It is March 2014 and I am again taking 1000mg 3x per day generic Valacyclovir for 7 days and the redness and spots on my chin are only somewhat better than they have been but they are still there and never completely went away. It seems that the generic Valacyclovir is not doing its full job and am wondering if Valtrex name brand should be my next option or if there might be something else going on?
My penis was fully covered though. During this time I did have a pre-existing pimple/whitehead on my groin (acne) which was not an open sore, but did repeatedly touch her vagina during the intercourse. The intercourse lasted for around 2 minutes and after it was over I saw some fluid on my groin area and on the pre-existing acne. I think this fluid may have been some lube she used although Im not sure if i can rule out if it was her vaginal secretion.
Hi I have Hsv 1&2 for over 10 years now. No problem with Hsv 1. Hsv 2 (genital)causes pretty much continual obs with sometimes a week symptom free. It's been this way for years. Over the years i have tried antivirals a few times but with no obvious difference so I stopped and out of embarrassment never said anything else to doctors. I am happily married with same spouse.No issue there.
About a year ago I started having some bumps on my face that seemed like systemic.
the weird thing is, im not having really bad outbreaks, if thats what this red stuff is on my face. and im only getting an occasional small red mark (skin level) in my pubic region. 2days after i had unprotected sex, i had a red spot on my shaft, but it went away in the next day.
i have a GREAT immune system and just want to get to the bottom of this!

Just wanted to ask quickly what signs there are for the initial outbreak ending. It's been around 10 days since I first suffered symptoms of pain during urination. I didn't see sores until around 8-9 days ago. Since I've been on Valtrex since 7 days ago it's felt a lot better, and no longer hurts. I looked today and there are still white-ish blisters or something - not sure if they are blisters any longer as they don't hurt but are a little sticky/filmy.
So now that i found out that i have hsv-1 do i need to take valtrex everyday for the rest of my life if i dont want to get my partner infected?
My doctor told me to stop taking Valtrex for a while to let my liver regenerate. While I think Valtrex is an excellent drug for treating HSV 2, I think users should take into consideration that long term use can cause some mild to moderate damage to the liver as my tests have proven. Also, anyone using Valtrex should not drink ANY alcohol while on it because it will exacerbate the problem with your liver. I'm hoping in a few weeks my liver tests go back to normal.
