If the 500 mg are too expensive, I will just ask for the 1000 mg next time and break them in half like you said. In general I think I have pretty good drug coverage, but I'm not sure how much the Valacyclovir will cost.

The official prescribing information for valacyclovir indicates a 1% chance of minor abnormalities of liver function in people taking valacyclovir, which was slightly higher than 0.5% for placebo. My doctor changed my prescription to valacyclovir 250 mg/day x2, which finally stopped the outbreaks.
The next day I saw a doctor and got a prescription for Valtrex. I took 1000mg about every 4 hours for 24 hours hoping it might work like a morning after pill. I have now cut back to 1000mg every 12 hours. She said that she was clean and that she has to be tested every 30 days to work there, but that is no guarantee. I am really worried about the possibility of contracting herpes and I know I should get tested, but will the Valtrex affect the results?
Do you use protection? Because that would explain why he doesn't have type 2.
I went back to my dermatologist and he did not think it to be herpes. But gave me a prescription for Valtrex as suppressive therapy until I can take a reliable blood test in 2 and 3 months.
I know that everyone has different symptoms for genital herpes and I feel like I have some.

I believe anything worth its salt would be prescription. I would call your doctor and explain your symptoms. It is clear you have herpes. Your doctor might not want to send over the Valacyclovir pills to control the herpes virus until he/she gets the results back, but there are prescription creams for herpes.
I ordered blood tests for HSV 1 and 2. I got a prescription for Valacyclovir and will take it as I await results. I know I had some exposure to risk and I guess Im mostly asking if the timeline for symptoms makes sense.
I realize I need to get retested but I'm losing sleep over this. I have been checking downstairs daily and noticed these red little painless bumps and they have been there for two weeks. They look like little zits. I have them in two areas not on the moist part but outside the lips near the hair. They are essentially painless and not too itchy. Me again, my doctor just called and said he called in a prescription of 500 mg Valtrex just to be safe until he finishes his consult. I hate to question him because he has been my doc for 30 years, but except for the burning and pinching on my penis (that has been there for 6 weeks) I am more inclined to agree with your post.
I'm not sure that I understand your response.
1. I think that you meant to say that "experience tells us that when people ?quit? taking the valacyclovir, they sometimes do have an outbreak soon after that." This is my concern, that the valacyclovir takes over and that the body's immune response is less engaged in fighting the infection. Do you see what I mean?

As such I contacted my doctor and was prescribed valacyclovir hcl which I took (2 1 gram tablets twice daily). The cold sore remained small and eventually went away. After this I went 1-2 days without taking any Lysine or valacyclovir and on the second day I noticed the cold sore coming back again and now appears to have come back and crusted over. I did not think the new cold sore was actually one but then it crusted over.
And although recurrent outbreaks can occur while taking valacyclovir, they are rare -- and monthly is unheard of. It is possible your HSV has become resistant to the drug, but that's quite rare as well.
As for valacyclovir side effects, you needn't worry.
My outbreak was only bad for about 48 hours then disappeared- no blistering/oozing/scabbing etc like I had read online, after 4 days I felt 100% normal again. Im just about to finish up my prescription of valacyclovir and have absolutely no idea what I should be doing/am allowed to do now moving forwards. For starters, when is it safe to have sex again? And is my likelyhood for another outbreak lower since my initial one was so minor?
I am a 40 year old female with genital HSV1, I am currently going through my initial outbreak, I have a prescription for Valtrex. I will be seeing a potential sexual partner in several weeks. What are the chances of him(he is HSV1&2 negative) catching HSV1 orally by performing oral sex on me? Chances of him catching HSV1 genital by having intercourse with me?
The doctor just gave me a prescription for Valacyclovir and i was planning on going back when i was finished my prescription
