Valacyclovir and lysine

Common Questions and Answers about Valacyclovir and lysine

valtrex

Avatar n tn I read somewhere else that taking Lysine can counter the arginine in almonds. Is it safe to take Lysine along with my Valacyclovir? Would it help anything? Or should I give up almonds? Thanks for any helpful advice.
Avatar n tn The cold sore remained small and eventually went away. After this I went 1-2 days without taking any Lysine or valacyclovir and on the second day I noticed the cold sore coming back again and now appears to have come back and crusted over. I did not think the new cold sore was actually one but then it crusted over. Is this possible if it appeared to have went away and/or is it possible that a new one could come on so quickly?
Avatar f tn I have simplex one and I've been on the generic for Valtrex for probably a year now. My symptoms have of course completely cleared up although I was getting OB's about every 2 to 3 weeks. I also take 1000mg of lysine daily. I try to stay away from the things that I know trigger OB's for me. However I want to get off of the med's because I don't want to become dependent on them. But i'm worried that ill get constant OB's like I used to get. What should I do?
Avatar m tn On the day of the test, I had just got done taking the Valacyclovir for 5 days(that I got online and took on my second, third and fourth outbreak symtoms in April May and July). I had not stopped taking the l-lysine for the whole period as a precaution and to reduce symptoms/outbreaks although its not proven.
Avatar f tn For example oxygen therapies, antagomir, dynaiclear, hyperisince, lectroject iontophiresis, l-lysine supplement, and olive leaf extract, viralprin, immune glory, valacyclovir, and famiciclovir. Anyone ever tried any of these online meds., I dont think they r prescribed.
Avatar f tn It is March 2014 and I am again taking 1000mg 3x per day generic Valacyclovir for 7 days and the redness and spots on my chin are only somewhat better than they have been but they are still there and never completely went away. It seems that the generic Valacyclovir is not doing its full job and am wondering if Valtrex name brand should be my next option or if there might be something else going on?
Avatar f tn valacyclovir daily, L-lysine 500 daily, shots of iron (as i have iron deficiency and some doctors thought this could strengthen the virus..), ... I honestly don't know what else to do. Anyone fighting the same problem?
Avatar m tn Then I started taking 500mg Valacyclovir (M191) daily and that helped me a lot. I would maybe get 1 out break a year and the sore would be very small & heal fast. I am also taking Lysine pills everyday. 1000mg to 2000mg a day. Last week, I had some redness on my penis and didn't really think anything of it. 2-3 days later 2 small scabs showed up on the same spot on my penis and they fell off within the next 4 days.
Avatar f tn HELLO, I TESTED POSITIVE FOR GENITAL HSV 1 ABOUT 2 1/2 MONTHS AGO AND EVER SINCE THEN MY ENTIRE GENITAL AREA HAS BEEN SO PAINFUL. I AM TAKING VALTREX 500 MG 2 TIMES A DAY AND A LARGE AMOUNT (UP TO 6000 MG) OF L-LYSINE DAILY AND MY SYMPTOMS DON'T SEEM TO BE IMPROVING. I HAVE NEVER HAD VISIBLE LESIONS BUT MY PCR SWAB WAS POSITIVE FOR HSV 1 IN MY VAGINAL CANAL. WILL THEY SYMPTOMS EVER GO AWAY OR SHOULD I EXPECT TO CONSTANTLY BE IN PAIN. PLEASE HELP, DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO?
Avatar f tn Lysine 1000mg per day helps having less outbreaks and avoiding them.
Avatar n tn Hi - No, nothing cures herpes. Antivirals don't cure it, either. They just help prevent outbreaks and reduce shedding if you take them daily. No studies have been done on any of the things you mentioned and transmission, so we can't say how it works for that, but some say L-lysine and Monolaurin really helps them in reducing the frequency of outbreaks. Others don't, so obviously that varies. Be really leery of anything promising a cure.
Avatar m tn It went away in a few days, and she asked the doctor to go on preventive viral (valtrex) and the doctor gave her 500mg 1 times a day - valacyclovir. NOW (JULY 2) she says she thinks she has it again, she has a rash and it hurts. Can HSV1 occur this often?? Could it be something else causing the rash?? Thank you.
Avatar m tn Hence if you receive oral sex and happen to be infected, then only the genital region is infected and this is where any sores would appear. This is all academic for you as there was no practical chance of HSV transmission and lack of symptoms, particularly for a HSV free person, confirms this.
Avatar f tn You could try raw honey too to the cold sore. some old research on honey and herpes and if nothing else, tastes better than the otc creams. If you know you have triggers like sun exposure or when you get a cold, you get a cold sore ( hence the nickname of cold sore), you can take a cold sore dose of antivirals to try to help ward off a full blown cold sore too.
Avatar m tn That was a big mistake(not to tell her) and she is very angry, upset and scared about the whole thing Anyway I am now trying to to deal with it and get educated as quick as possible. I got some Valacyclovir 500mg from my doctor and he prescribed 2 per day for 5 days as an intitial treatment and 1 per day going forward(forever?) as a suppresent. I found this blog which has convinced me that L-Lysine is the way to go and I am now taking that as well with the other prescription.
Avatar m tn I'm not sure why they kicked this out of Terri's forum when you tried to add to your post there?
Avatar m tn L-Valine is available at health food stores/vitamin shops and is much cheaper and obviously less embarrassing to buy than valtrex. My questions are: 1. Is L-Valine, by itself, as shown on the link below an equivalent treatment for HSV2? http://www.nutrabio.com/Products/valine.htm?gclid=CODz25DJi6MCFQ1HnQodTxZtYA 2. The web also states, L-Valine Ester... I found a link to a bodybuilding supplement that appears to contain pretty much the exact same thing as the active ingredient.
Avatar m tn After 15 years together, I am negative twice by Elisa, she is positive for type 1 and 2 by both Elisa and Western Blot. Given transmission rate data and probability, I do not see how our current viral status is probable. Take into account 4+ years of unprotected sex while trying to have a family. (Reference: Wald et al, J Infect Dis, 2006, 270 days disclose verses 60 days not disclose) 2] Is it possible she has a false positive on both the Elisa and WB?
Avatar m tn Sometimes herpes zoster or shingles can present initially with sensitivity which can progress to pain and rash. So, wait and watch and keep track of the symptoms you develop. In the meantime for pain relief you can use OTC Tylenol (acetaminophen). Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn re on a daily suppressant regimen of taking Valtrex(Valacyclovir-500mg) and L-Lysine-1000mg, what is the risk of possibly spreading infection of herpes 2 when having unprotected oral sex given to you by a non-infected person and also having intercourse with a non-herpes person if you are not showing or feeling symptoms?
Avatar f tn I’m a healthy 33 y/o female, I eat well, exercise, take vitamins and lysine daily. My stress is not any higher than normal. I’ve went through many stressful events and was outbreak free. My dr changed my 2x daily 400mg acyclovir to 1 500mg of valacyclovir a month ago and it hasn’t made a difference. The worst part of all this is that I haven’t told my husband (we married last year). We have children and I’m so scared this is going to end my marriage.
Avatar n tn Hello, I'm 17 and even though my results come back tomorrow, my gyno thinks I have the HSV-2 virus. I am female and this has been confused as both a UTI and yeast infection. I've never had anything like this before, but I've been having burning urination for the past week. I'm having a full-blown outbreak with open sores and everything. My doctor put me on Valacyclovir that I've been taking for 3 days now and I have my period.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Herpes 33 years ago and have been using 1000 mg Valacyclovir a day for the past 4 years and have been free of outbreaks until a few weeks ago when I lost my job and became quite stressed. I was able to take one extra tablet of 500 mg which stopped the outbreak from turning into blisters, but I am concerned if this medication is not working for me anymore. I also wonder if Valacyclovir is the same as Valtrex or if Valtrex is stronger? I appreciate your help.
