Avatar m tn We have contacted both cataract surgeon and retina specialist and they want him to do the cataract surgery first. Now should we to the cataract surgeon for the cataract surgery or to the retina specialist who said he will also be able to do the surgery as well. Some said that it is important to go with the retina specialist as the retina doctor can handle if something goes wrong with the retina during the time of cataract surgery.
Avatar m tn The only reason not to have both problems dealt with now is if your retina doctor thought you would get good vision recovery from the pucker surgery and not need cataract surgery for several more years. However it works out, your two surgeons MUST talk to each other in advance of any procedure so that everyone is on the same page.
Avatar n tn t something else is the problem.
Avatar m tn Do you mean many patients like me have eye pain or asthenopia go for a cataract surgery and have improvement. Finally, anyway to test do I have Ocular migraine. My family doctor prescribed me a few Zomig and didn't work out.
Avatar f tn After several visits to cataract surgeons and retinal surgeons, I had the idea the cataract surgery is normally done first. However, if the cataract is classified as a 1 or 2 maximum and the ERM seems to be agressive.(My vision now in this eye is 20/150 or worse) and the retinal surgeon feels comfortable doing the macular peel first and then judging when to do cataract surgery, has anyone had the procedures done this way? Is there a negative or hopefully, a positive for doing the peel first?
Avatar f tn They rarely affect vision. This capsule needs to be kept intact during cataract surgery and the posterior polar sticking to the capsule risks ripping the capsule during cataract surgery.
Avatar m tn The surgeon who performed the scleral buckle and vitrectomy do not do cataract, so I am now on the waiting list for a cataract surgery with another eye doctor. When I look at my eye in the mirror, I do not seen any clouding or anything wrong with my cornea, just can not accept that there is cataract.
Avatar f tn For the run of the mill, average, epiretinal membrane case with a mature cataract, I usually do the cataract surgery first. and inject subtenons kenalog, use plenty of non-steroidal drops and prednisolone drops, and hope that the vision remains stable. They will get cystoid macular edema very easily if you don't stay very diligent with anti-inflammatories postoperatively.
Avatar n tn I have -7.75 and -7.25 myopia. My eye doctor says I have a cataract but it's 'too early' and I should wait until both eyes are needing cataract surgery. This doesn't make good sense to me. I could wait for many years and never see the other lens get to the point of the problem one. I feel that a high myope like me is MORE sensitive to changes in the lens due to cataract. I understand that the eye doctors like to match the lens for best outcome for myopes like me.
1590993 tn?1297090343 Hello Doctors, I am 22 from Iran. Both my eyes have Nystagmus problem since I born and due to it I have very very wak vision. So l lost vision on that eye. Until some months ago there was no change in my right eye's vision.
Avatar n tn I lost the sight during retinal detachment surgery following cataract surgery. My optic nerve did not survive the surgery because of advanced glaucoma. A fact casually omitted to me prior to my cataract and retinal detachment surgery . I would weigh all the factors and educate myself to ask all appropriate questions. It's your eyes...your responsibility.

Avatar m tn My aunt has pseduoexfoliation syndrome in one eye and is going to undergo cataract surgery. The one eye does not have the syndrome and the cataract procedure was already performed successfully on that eye. I understand that this syndrome is associated with serious complications and these can occur quite some time after the cataract surgery is performed.
Avatar m tn The doctor recommended surgery to correct the pucker and, at the same time, to do a cataract surgery as the macular surgery tends to accelerate the cataract development and, he says, it would be good just to do both at the same time. I have not gotten a second opinion....yet. I am wondering if i really NEED the surgery. If it is advisable to do both at the same time if I do go ahead with them.
Avatar n tn I never seem to get a clear answer from my Opthamologist (who performed both the cornea surgeries and the cataract procedure) as to why this developed after the cataract surgery and whether or not we can do anything about it.
Avatar f tn Since it appears that I am in the beginning stages of degenerative myopia really what are the chances of complications from the cataract removal surgery? And will they grow back, one of them I have had since June the other two have rapidly developed since October.
Avatar m tn I am scheduled for Cataract surgery on my right eye. In this eye I have a severe cataract. My left eye is only showing very early signs of a cataract. I plan to have a mono-focal implant installed, answers from my MD about the multi-focal IOL's gave me the impression that the these are really not were they need to be yet, and that the more guaranteed result is to go Mono. I am 49 and my contact correction is -8.5.
Avatar m tn old healthy male with a Hx of retinal detachment and tears in both eyes. A detachment in my right eye in 2010 repaired and cataract surgery later the same year. I have had several tears in my left eye all repaired with the laser. Now I have a cataract on my left eye, which is beginning to interfere with driving and reading.
Avatar n tn I've taken flomax for several years, and want to undergo cataract surgery. What should I expect? This discussion is related to Cataract surgery and Flomax.
Avatar n tn It make surgery easier and safer when the cataract is small and soft 2. Removing the cataract often "cures" the glaucoma associated with PXE or at least makes it easier to treat. Go to Dr. Hagan's blog and read the entry on macular degeneration.
899266 tn?1241844359 I was having very high myopia and cataract and gone through phacoemulsification surgery in Chennai, India. Now after 2 years by the doctors help and grace of god and blessings and good wishes of dear ones I am doing pretty well with vision. Immediately after surgery I was having very good vision and at present I have distance No. -1.5 left and -1.50 right eye and same no plus for reading. But past several months I am witnessing floaters in my both eyes. Is this the sign of worry ?
1302779 tn?1287405029 t understand how the scale the doctor rate the cataract. I have some cataract after a RD surgery. Some doctors think this is mild and don't bother to do anything on it and wait 2 more years. Some doctors think the cataract is moderate. I think his argument is based on that my current best vision is 20/50 and I can see a pin-hole with 20/25. I met a cataract surgeon last week, he spent 1 minute to examine both eyes.
Avatar n tn In any case, the retina problems were of more concern than correcting the cataract surgery and after retina surgery ta year ago to remove ERM, my sight is much clearer, though still distorted (I may have waited too long to get the retina surgery).
