Avatar f tn The alcohol test may not be able to distinguish between ketones in diabetes and alcohol. So for sure ketones could affect the test results. You need to discuss this specifically with the pain clinic doctors. You may need to show them proof about your blood sugar levels / ketones. You may need to do ketone testing as well. http://www.shouselaw.com/ketosis.
Avatar f tn The presence of ketones doesn't effect a hpt. I had ketones in my urine due to being dehydrated from morning sickness, and I continuously tested positive. Diabetes doesn't render false negative pregnancy tests either. if you drink a large amount of any liquid and use the bathroom frequently, you run the risk of diluting your urine.
Avatar f tn burning in kidneys Sent by lwack 1 minute having a burning sensation in my kidneys and nausea I did a urine test strip first thing this morning. All results were fine apart from trace leukocytes, highest specific gravity and highest ketones. I do not take medication and do not feel unwell enough to go to the doctor I am not sure what these mean and should I worry?
Avatar m tn Now When he had the fever doctor advised us to do a urine routine test and when i got the reports i was shocked to see ketone bodies (3+) in his urine but his glucose and protine was negative for urine test and he had no urine infection. Now when i looked through internet about the Ketones i found that it has something to do with Diabetes. I am very scared of this. No one in mine and my wifes family has diabetes and so i feel my son may not have this and that to he is so yuong to have this.
Avatar n tn There are times when I check my urine for ketones when my blood glucose is particularly high. For example, this morning before I had eaten a bite, my blood sugar was 406. I checked my urine for ketones at that time and it showed moderate to high amounts of ketones in my urine. This afternoon after I ate, my blood sugar was 521 and I checked for ketones again. On the second check, it was negative to a trace. Does anyone have any ideas what could cause this to happen?
Avatar n tn whatever is causing the blood in her urine may also be stressing her body so that ketones are being produced. You said she was "fine" and yet blood in urine is not normally associated with "fine." If she's very active and perhaps not eating lots, then she can form ketones. Encourage her to drink lots of fluids to help flush these from her system. Good luck!
Avatar f tn d have to pee on a stick that measured ketones in my urine, if it was higher some days they would make me drink an extra 2 or 3 water bottles or go in for iv fluids. Stay hydrated!! Goodluck!
Avatar m tn He did urine tests for sugar, ketones etc., Fortunately, there were no trace of sugar and ketones. Based on this, Doctor has ruled out any diabetes. Appreciate your active participation in this forum.
Avatar f tn Yes there are ketones in my urine. Dr says it means my body isn't getting enough food and its taking from my fat and muscle.
Avatar n tn OK, so my Dr said my urinalysis came back with trace of ketones and protein in my urine. He said its probably not significant and should check it again another day. Can someone tell me how common or uncommon that is? I hadnt eatin like like 16 hours before hand, except for alittle something maybe 20 minutes before I gave the urine sample. Could this have caused it? I was really worried since I get cloudy urine after eating dairy, and only after dairy.
Avatar n tn For the past several years trace amounts of protein have been found in my urine, as well as ketones. Throughout the years I've had different doctors discover this, all of which said it was nothing to worry about. Now that I have a new insurance, I asked to get my urine checked specifically for the protein issue. The results are alarming to me. Can an expert please look at these values and please advise? Thank you very much.
Avatar n tn High blood sugar can be controlled with diabetes medications and pneumonia can be treated with antibiotics. The presence of ketones in the bloodstream is a common complication of diabetes. A urine test for ketones is more commonly done than the blood test. If there are 2 positive signs (++), this indicates the level of ketones present in her urine, which is normally negative. It is important that this is treated also to prevent ketoacidosis.
Avatar n tn Hi, I am a 16 year old girl, whom is 5'3,and weigh about 96 pounds. I just went to see the doctor, and like always, they said I had a bit of ketones and about 300g of protein in my urine. They didn't test my blood sugar, but I know my fasting glucose level is around the 126 range. Though there was no sugar in my urine, I am still afraid I might be showing signs of diabetes, but no one believes me. I also have a high blood pressure. Any help would be great. Thanks!
Avatar n tn Anne, As you may know, we're volunteers here & not medical professionals. The presence of ketones and what they signal can vary by individuals, so your endocrinologist is the best person to discuss this with. Ketones can build up for a number of reasons. Basically, our metabolism is out of whack when we build urine ketones. If that continues and our kidneys can't flush the ketones from our bodies, ketones can build in our blood and that is very dangerous.
Avatar n tn I went to the doctor and the found a high amount of protein in my urine, and also ketones, but no sugar in. (I was tested about two hours after a large meal too, so the ketones were not out of starvation, and I do not exercise.) They have always seen protein in my urine also. At times though, I can tell my blood sugar goes down a lot, because I get very shaky, and at other times when my blood sugar is not low, I sometime black out for a second, get very dizzy, and faint.
Avatar n tn visit today and I asked them to test her for diabetes, the only symptom I noticed was that she started wetting the bed at night and she has NEVER done that. The Dr. did the urine test and came back and said she was positive for ketones and sugar, she sent me to the local ER there they did a full blood work up but all test were normal, this stumped the DR. and the on-call endrocrinologist.

Avatar f tn They did a test and stated that I had Ketones in my urine and stated they wanted me to have blood drawn so that they could see what was going on. She asked me if I had been skipping meals. I stated that I had only had a small amount to eat that day but had not been skipping meals. I was called this week to come back in and a nurse earlier told me that if my tests were normal they would just send a letter.
Avatar f tn Just follow the instruction to do the test. If I remember right if the test strip turnes pick you have ketones in your urine, plus the strip tells you if there is blood, glucose, and a couple other things. But If I were you I would go get checked out just incase. I hope this helps.
Avatar n tn That can result from fasting or high protein or low carbohydrate diets. Were you asked to fast before this blood test? Wishing you well.
Avatar n tn Ketones are acids that build up in the blood. They appear in the urine when your body doesn't have enough insulin. Your fiance's bg meter must have an indicator, based on his bg reading that tells him when he should be checking for ketones. My daughter's endocrinologist has recommended that she test her urine for ketones if her bg is over 170 as she is on an insulin pump.
Avatar m tn I recently got my urine test done with the military and they sent me a letter asking for a family doctor to re-interpret the results and/or do a new urine test. On the info sheet, 3 lines were highlighted and the results were given beside then: Protein - 1+ Ketones - TRACE Bilirubin - 2+ I'm stressing a bit because I did some research online and the articles said that it might be a kidney problem. With me trying to get into the Air Force I need to be physically and mentally healthy.
Avatar f tn Hello, The most common cause of oily urine is ketones in urine. These appear in individuals with uncontrolled diabetes and also during periods of starvation or a stringent dietary regimen. Presence of oily substance in urine along with orangish or dark yellow-colored urine can be attributed to biliary disease or jaundice. Increase your intake of water and avoid caffeine and alcohol. Pimple like bumps can be due to boils, folliculitis, impetigo or pyoderma.
Avatar f tn Hopefully your doctor followed up with you. I wouldn't be alarmed but you should work with your doctor to investigate further. WBC 2+ likely means you have some type of infection. Leukocytes were found in your urine. Ketones at 2+ are still okay but any higher, that's protein in your urine indicative of diabetes. You are still in the normal range. The Uro part of the test is checking your liver. The 2+ number does indicate something going on you need to talk to your doctor about.
2053975 tn?1343405733 Just got out of my apt Dr said he found ketones in my urine. I asked if I should be concerned and he said to drink lots of water. Apparently this is the second week I had ketones in my urine. All he told me was to drink more water. How much more water can I drink, I already drink over 3 liters a day I practically pee water. I googled ketones, but its freaking me out. Has anybody had this before.
