Tysabri flu shot

Common Questions and Answers about Tysabri flu shot

tysabri

Avatar n tn I have MS, and recently switched from Copaxone shots (on for 5 1/2 yrs) to Tysabri infusions (I've had three) due to slow decline. I have a flu shot every fall and was wondering if I should have one this year since I'm on a new med.
Avatar n tn m on Tysabri, the pharmacist at the hospital told me not to get the flu shot until at least a week after my infusion. For those on CRABs (Copaxone.Rebif, Avonex, and Betaseron), or Gilenya, there are no time restrictions.
572651 tn?1530999357 I got my flu shot in early November. After asking the hospital pharmacist about flu shot and Tysabri, I was told to get my flu shot "mid-cycle" (week 2-3) from my Tysabri infusion.
Avatar f tn Kyle this has been debated and one of the reports I read said that it was ok to get it.
Avatar f tn I took Avonex for three years and it was a GREAT drug at slowing down the MS. I only quit because the shot left me feeling like I had the flu for 3-4 days after the shot. This does not happen to everyone though. Some people claim they have less side-effects after a while on Avonex. Since I was on it for three years, I think I gave it every chance I could. With the Interferons though, you have to have your liver enzymes checked at least every six months. With Copaxone you don't.
Avatar n tn Have you considered Gilenya, which is an oral treatment?
Avatar n tn I had been on Tysabri for 22 month's and just recently stopped. I was wondering if any new info. is out there on the drug Rituxan for MS? I have SPMS with RRMS. I was in a study 3 yrs. ago at UCSF and did really well on Rituxan. However, Rituxan is not an approved drug for MS and at that time my insurance would not cover it so I had to discontinue taking it. Or should I just take a break for awhile and not take any ms med"s?
Avatar f tn ( . How long also does it take to notice the drug is working for you .
Avatar f tn s neuro appt as I am sure he is either a) going to try to talk me into staying on Tysabri (noooooo as I hide under the covers) or asking me what my 2nd choice is (???) but am clueless. I KNOW I don't want anything with the word NAUSEA associated to it in any way. Anyone want to give me their experience. I'm not shot shy, have given too many of those, just being whimy and wanting as few side effects as possible.
4629663 tn?1357698594 -) As Ess said some MS docs are pro flu shot and some are anti. Because I am a Tysabri user my doc is anti. I do everything I can to make sure I'm able to ward off winter bugs. Mostly that means I eat right, get regular exercise and take my vitamins.
572651 tn?1530999357 Just got home from work, after getting my very first flu shot. I hope I didn't jinx myself as I haven't had the flu in years. But my GP strongly encouraged me to get one, and since they're giving them out at work anyway, I thought I'd give it a shot. ha ha, aren't I funny, and so original.
Avatar f tn m 18 and not sure which medicine to choose. I have narrowed it down to Copaxone and Tysabri, but am not sure which one to choose. I have a phobia of needles that I have been trying to overcome so giving myself a shot wouldn't be optimal but I could manage. I was also worried about developing PML with Tysabri but my doctor made it seem as if he would check my bloodwork regularlly and it wouldnt be an issue. I just wanted to know anyones personal experience or opinions on the two.
Avatar n tn Hi I was diagnosed with MS in May of 2001. My neurologolist wants to me to try Tysabri. I have already tried the shots for ms and they don't work to well with me. But I already have most of the side of effects that go with tysabri. Please help me.
1755625 tn?1421447637 It is being recommended that I switch from Copaxone (or any shot) to Tysabri, Tecfidera or Gilenya. What are you guys using?
400099 tn?1282954864 Last year my PCP highly recommended that I get the regular flu shot and a shot for pneumonia, but she was highly against the H1N1 shot due for several sound reasons, mostly in how the vaccine was produced (one issue surrounded a preservative and I can't recall the other). If I understand it correctly, this year's flu shot does contain antibodies to protect H1N1.
5644375 tn?1371561016 Thank you , I could not imagine doing a daily shot which is the ONLY reason I went with Avonex, but if I can't tolerate the flu-like symptoms I will certainly deal with the daily injection. I appreciate your help.
Avatar f tn I've been taking Rebif since my Dx in March with no problems until last night! I took aspirin before my shot instead of my usual ibuprofen and have never felt so horrible. When they say "fllu-like" symptoms that's the understatement of the millenium!!! I shivered so hard I thought I was going to crack my teeth. I could barely hold a cup of water from the shivering and shaking to take some ibuprofen.
Avatar f tn I got my flu shot while expecting my son, he was born Jan 30. I will be getting my flu shot in December as I'm due in march, just so my baby is protected from the flu virus. I know it's a good idea, my mother didn't get a flu shot when she was pregnant with me and now I'm always sick.
Avatar f tn My last dr was an @$$ and had basically forced me to set an appt for the flu shot. My entire life i havemt gotten the flu shot, and YET i havemt got the flu. I plan on canceling the appt. Im very healthy with a very good immume system. Am i just wrong?
Avatar f tn has anyone else got the flu shot this year ? I've already had it but now I've been reading up on some things saying it's not safe and can cause risk to my baby and I. I'm a little worried.
Avatar f tn I have never had the flu nor received the flu shot. But at the beginning of 2nd trimester the dr strongly urge I get one b/c she sd she has 2 mothers and 2 babies die as a result of getting the flu/H1N1. I took the shot reluctantly and it didn't make me sick and I actually came in contact w/ a customer of mine who had the flu and I haven't been sick, thank God! I'll never get it again unless I'm ever pregnant again, I just took it this time as a preventive measure.
Avatar f tn I got the flu shot, no side effects. Baby and I are doing just fine.

Avatar f tn I did not want to get the flu shot. I never ever get the flu (knock on wood) and I'm scared that if I do, I will get sick. My Dr is addoment about getting it. I'm 10.5 weeks and was going to wait until I'm in my 2nd trimester. What are your thoughts??
